Ablaze Sts. Peter & Paul Young Adult Ministry

Ablaze Ministry’s target audience are young adults in their 20’s and 30’s both single and married!

**Our Scripture Verse** Let no one look down on your youthfulness, but rather in speech, conduct, love, faith and purity, show yourself an example of those who believe. (1 Timothy 4:12) **Bible Study** On Thursday evenings, Ablaze gathers together to dive into the upcoming Sunday Readings. Through discussion, teaching and reflection we discover how these passages relate to our Catholic faith and to our personal lives.

Mission: To welcome, encourage, catechize and inspire young adults to live their lives as a witness to those who believe in the Gospel.

[02/20/20]   Bible Study - Thursday at 7pm in St. Rose Room

“You have heard that it was said,
You shall love your neighbor and hate your enemy.
But I say to you, love your enemies
and pray for those who persecute you,
that you may be children of your heavenly Father,
for he makes his sun rise on the bad and the good,
and causes rain to fall on the just and the unjust.
For if you love those who love you, what recompense will you have?
Do not the tax collectors do the same?
And if you greet your brothers only,
what is unusual about that?
Do not the pagans do the same?
So be perfect, just as your heavenly Father is perfect.”
- Matthew 5

I quoted this big chunk from this Sunday’s Gospel because I love the challenge. God is always calling us to a higher standard. The challenge isn’t even the command, it’s that by our own accord and strength it’s a pretty impossible feat. We live in a challenging time with strong emotions about every topic that devolves to shouting, anger, and hurt feelings, mostly expressed in emojis :-). In the readings this week we are called to challenge each other, but not to hurt each other. Turn the other cheek, love your enemies. These are challenges that are only accomplished with the help of God. Lent is coming, what are some things we can do with this challenge? I for one know I need more quite time with the Lord to enter into his peace and to be able to know his thoughts.

Pope Francis wrote a letter expressing the spirituality that came from St. Francis' experience at Greccio where he created the first Christmas creche. It's worth the read.

"By your perseverance you will secure your lives."
(Lk. 21: 19)

Perseverance during trials looks very different during than looking back afterward. Sometimes it looks like just sitting and waiting for it to all be over and other times it looks like grabbing a sword and running head first into battle, but more often than not it looks very messy. If this sounds like the season you're living now, embrace the mess because what awaits on the other side is so beautiful. I pray you are able to clutch the Father's hand as you run, head held high, into what is ahead.

"for not all have faith.
But the Lord is faithful"
(2 Thes. 2)

This verse from this Sunday's 2nd reading really gives me peace. Even when things seem in chaos, the Lord is faithful. Even when I am not, the Lord is faithful. It is who He is, He is not capable of anything else. He is faithful to His promises. He IS faithful.

Bible Study Thursday Night in St. Rose Room at 7pm

These last few weeks Jesus has met us with parable after parable, each challenging us even more. This week we hear the parable of Lazarus, the beggar, and the rich man. The rich man pays no attention to the beggar and eventually ends up in Hell and wants to warn his brothers that they shall not suffer the same peril. Abraham responds with:

"'If they will not listen to Moses and the prophets, neither will they be persuaded if someone should rise from the dead.'" (Luke 16:31).

This reading challenges us to not waste our lives on things that do not matter, and to listen to the voices God uses to lead us down the path of righteousness and eternal life.

RECKLESS LOVE (Official Live Version) - Cory Asbury w/ Story Behind the Song

Bible Study TONIGHT! -
Real Love

“So he got up and went back to his father.
While he was still a long way off,
his father caught sight of him,
and was filled with compassion.
He ran to his son, embraced him and kissed him.
His son said to him,
‘Father, I have sinned against heaven and against you;
I no longer deserve to be called your son.’
But his father ordered his servants,
‘Quickly bring the finest robe and put it on him;
put a ring on his finger and sandals on his feet.
Take the fattened calf and slaughter it.
Then let us celebrate with a feast.” - Lk. 15

How much does the Father love you? Read the passage above again if you can’t answer that. This IS real love. He will not, cannot stop chasing after you and lavishing you with all it means to be his son and daughter.

“If anyone comes to me without hating his father and mother,

“For king of all the earth is God;
sing hymns of praise.
God reigns over the nations,
God sits upon his holy throne.
R. God mounts his throne to shouts of joy: a blare of trumpets for the Lord.”

The Psalm this Sunday exalts the Lord as we celebrate his Ascension to heaven. I sometimes sit and wonder what the sound of heaven is like... A football game? The Red Sox stadium after they’ve won the World Series? A stadium full of Jonas Brother fans? One thing I know for sure, just like the screaming girls, we won’t be ashamed of what we look like in front of our one, true King!

Our hope is in the Lord! Join us for bible study tomorrow!

My children, I will be with you only a little while longer.
I give you a new commandment: love one another.
As I have loved you, so you also should love one another.
This is how all will know that you are my disciples,
if you have love for one another. (Jn 13:34-35)

What a HUGE responsibility. Jesus doesn’t give the guys a small task, but calls them to lay down their lives for one another, as he did for them. I often focus on the big ways I can lay down my life for the Lord and then get discouraged that my life seems rather small in light of this calling. However, I think the Lord is calling us to love BIG in the LITTLE ways we can daily. Most of the time the Lord is calling us to do small, unassuming things for the people we encounter daily. I think we’d be surprised what a big difference it’d make if we simply did that.

“Miss no single opportunity of making some small sacrifice, here by a smiling look, there by a kindly word; always doing the smallest right and doing it all for love.”
― St. Therese of Lisieux

Jesus said:
“My sheep hear my voice;
I know them, and they follow me.
I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish.
No one can take them out of my hand.
My Father, who has given them to me, is greater than all,
and no one can take them out of the Father’s hand.
The Father and I are one.” (Jn 10:27-30)

What a beautiful gospel reading for this Sunday! Just as Jesus and the Father are one, so are we through Jesus Christ, through our Baptism, by virtue that the Father wants it that way. Nothing and no one can get in the way of this reality. There is nothing you can do to earn it, lose it, or anything between it. That fact gives my heart a lot of peace and has allowed me to rest more deeply in the Father’s arms, fully knowing he’ll do anything to have me. I pray your heart is open to the Father’s this week and that his love impacts you in a special way.

DON’T FORGET: This Saturday is the day of reflection. Great fellowship, awesome priest, adoration, and free food! No better way to spend half of your Saturday 😀. See you there!

"It is the Lord." Jn 21

Imagine, you are the disciples, fishing, and you realize Jesus is on the seashore... Peter was so excited he jumped in the water and swam all the way back! He was like a little kid on Christmas morning. If the Lord showed up right now, how would you feel? Joyful? Excited? Nervous? Want to hide? I hope I would look like the guy in this gif 😂. Through his death and resurrection, we have been given the gift of intimacy with him. Share your feelings with him today.

"Many signs and wonders were done among the people
at the hands of the apostles."

Happy Easter y'all! This Sunday we jump straight into the post resurrection church. We hear the story of doubting Thomas, the peace Jesus brings in his visit, and the signs and wonders the Apostles are performing in their evangelization. God has called us, just like the Apostles to go out and evangelize with the gifts of intimacy we acquired through Jesus' death and resurrection. That makes me both a little afraid and excited. How about you?
