WUMC 2015 Youth Ministries Questionnaire

A few quick reminders:

- TOMORROW (Saturday)
**Come on out any time between 10am and 4pm to help paint the Youth Room. There will be plenty to do, and any help is welcome!

- SUNDAY:
**First, Rally Day during the Sunday School hour (9:15am) - get PUMPED about Sunday School for the coming year.
**Then, we'll meet at 1pm for our YOUTH GROUP KICKOFF meeting. We'll have lunch together, a short meeting to chat about the coming year (bring your suggestions and thinking caps!), worship together, share a quick devotional, hang out a bit, and then those of us who are able will leave at around 2pm to go to Wesley Forest for the Conference Young People's Ministry Council (YPMC) Bits and Pieces event, which is from 3-7pm. We'll return for pickup at WUMC at around 8pm. Permission slips will be available at the church on Sunday.

- Starting NEXT SUNDAY (9/20):
**We'll start meeting for Middle School and High School Bible Studies from 6-7pm on Sunday Evenings. The building will be open for you to come and hang out starting at 5:30 and we'll keep it open until 7:30, so if you want to shoot some hoops, do some homework (we can also help with that), talk about planning for college, or just take advantage of our new WiFi and have some snacks, you can do that, too :-).

- We're still looking for more feedback! If you haven't already, please consider filling out the Google Forms survey linked below to give us your thoughts about the Youth Ministries. Your thoughts matter, and every idea and bit of feedback is heard and acted upon.

Finally, Here's a great opportunity for any adult leaders AND students who are interested in taking on leadership roles. One of our focuses this year is going to be on making WUMC's Youth Ministries a Youth-LED Group, and this is a great first step if you are interested in being part of the student leadership team :-). Let me know ASAP if anyone is interested in going... I know I am definitely interested! I'd love to take a group of students AND adults from our church :-).

WUMC 2015 Youth Ministries Questionnaire

We've gotten some excellent feedback from a bunch of folks and I, for one, am excited to get the new Youth Group year started with a bang next week - September 13th - with our Kickoff get together / Wesley Forest YPMC (Young People's Ministry Council) event. Also, beginning on September 20, we will begin to meet on Sunday evening for Bible Study from 6-7pm (the goal will be to have a Middle School group and a High School group). The church and I will be available from 5:30-6pm and again from 7-8pm for you to hang out, do some homework, play basketball, board games, or (almost) anything else that you might be interested in doing. See the complete September events list at the bottom of the post for more.

WE COULD STILL USE SOME FEEDBACK, especially from our younger youth. If you know of anyone who is involved (or wants to be / should be involved) with WUMC's Youth Ministries, especially younger youth, please invite them to share their thoughts on this questionnaire. All of the feedback we receive helps us to build and support a ministry that serves the youth of our church and community.

I will most likely be entirely offline until late Monday night (I am climbing Mount Washington in New Hampshire with my Leadership class from Bloomsburg University of Pennsylvania), but please do not hesitate to reach out with any feedback, questions, comments, concerns, or anything else.

SEPTEMBER EVENTS:

::: September 12 :::

WUMC 2015 Youth Ministries Questionnaire

We've gotten excellent feedback so far, and it is going to be very helpful in making the last few decisions that need to be made. THANK YOU to everyone who has already responded!

We do need your help... we haven't gotten any responses from MIDDLE SCHOOL STUDENTS. If you are a parent or friend of a Middle School student at WUMC, please share this link with them and have them provide their feedback!

And we'd still love to hear from the rest of you, too :-). Youth - whether you have actively participated in WUMC's Youth Ministries or not, Parents of youth at WUMC or in the Warrior Run area, and anyone who might be considering volunteering (even casually) as an adult leader... your input is so valuable and appreciated!

WUMC 2015 Youth Ministries Questionnaire

We've already gotten a few great responses, and we can certainly use some more! If you didn't get a chance to respond to this brief questionnaire about the Youth Ministries in 2015-2016 and you are a Youth, Parent, or Adult Volunteer, please take a couple of minutes to click on the link and send in your feedback.

Your responses will help us to ensure that our program serves the needs of our church's young people, and that our meeting times and events are scheduled with YOU in mind. If you have not been involved before but are considering being involved (either as a youth or as a volunteer), please be sure to respond, as well!

Also, if you know of anyone who does NOT have Facebook but is interested in the church's Youth Ministries, please share this link with them and have them submit their feedback!

[08/22/15]   If you are planning on coming to the cookout this evening (4-9 at the Nick and Megan's house), please try to remember to bring a camp chair. We have a number of extras, but not enough for everyone ;-). Also, hamburgers, hot dogs, drinks (as well as cups, plates, and plasticware) will be provided... feel free to bring a side dish or dessert to share if you would like!

[08/17/15]   Hope you're all enjoying your summer! If not, it's just about over, so enjoy the last few days :-D.

Our goal is to have an announcement by next Sunday, August 23, for the official launch of the 2015-2016 year for our Middle School and High School Youth Ministries. There will be several conversations taking place over the next week to finalize some details. So... stay tuned!

In the meantime, if you are free next Saturday, come on over and join the Youth Mission Team that was made up of young people from both Watsontown and Lincoln Chapel UMCs at our house (the Munyats) at 4 pm for a pool party and cookout. It'll be a great opportunity to learn about the mission work that was done, as well as to talk about some pretty exciting ways that our churches will be working together throughout the year, and to talk about future mission opportunities :-).

So... stay tuned, come on out next Saturday (shoot a note if you need directions or have any questions), and get excited for the new school year!!!

Over and out...

Nick

[05/03/15]   YOUTH UPDATE: I apologize for my oversight - I sent over the church newsletter information without looking at the calendar as deeply as I should have. There is a note that there will be a special meeting on May 10 at 1:30 for those interested in the Youth Ministries of the church going forward, but that is Mothers' Day, and we want those of you who are mothers to be able to enjoy as much of your day as possible with your families. So with that in mind...

SUNDAY, MAY 17, 1:30 PM - If you are interested in the youth ministries of our church (if you are a YOUTH - whether you currently participate in youth group or not, a PARENT or current, former, or future youth, a current or former LEADER - whether occasional or regular, or simply a MEMBER OF THE COMMUNITY who is interested in the youth and family ministries of our church), PLEASE JOIN US for a short (less than 1 hour) ROUND TABLE style discussion about proposed changes to the format and meeting structure of the youth and family ministries of the church. We promise, this is exciting stuff . We look forward to seeing you!!!

The purpose of this meeting is to introduce a "new" concept and make sure that it passes the "smell test," answer a few preliminary questions, and facilitate some beginnings of the discussion - but NOT to actually build the entire program. If it is a viable concept that we agree warrants further development, we will hold regular, more formal meetings throughout the summer to develop and plan for the actual structure of the "new" ministry. If you have an opinion, passion, or interest in youth and family ministries and our church, PLEASE plan to attend this meeting, or seek me or Pastor Ryan out to have a discussion around this concept.

[03/03/15]   Good grief, this weather! Hope you're all staying safe and warm!

Here is a message that you will likely see a few times, and will have more developments coming soon :-).

We are looking in to starting something pretty exciting over the summer (more details to come soon), and have a need for some young musicians who would be interested in coming together to form a youth/young people's music team, primarily for leading worship. The commitment would be weekly practices (practice times and details would be worked out based on whoever is participating) and one evening event per month (TBD). We are gauging interest now, so many details are still being developed.

The only requirements would be that the person a) has a relationship with Jesus and wants to share in that relationship with other young people in the Watsontown area, has a musical talent that they would like to share as part of a group of musicians (vocals, guitar, bass guitar, drums/percussion, keyboard/piano, concert strings, woodwinds, brass, anything that could be used in modern worship), and would be willing and able to commit to practicing weekly starting in the early May time frame (or earlier if things move more quickly) and leading once per month through the summer.

If you know of anyone who may be interested, or you are interested yourself, let me know!
