Today we commemorate Mark, the evangelist. The Gospel of Mark is the shortest and most direct of the gospels, and many believe it was the first to be written. In art, Mark is often associated with the lion, as envisioned in Revelation 4:6-8.

Today is Ash Wednesday.
The sign of ashes suggests our human mortality and frailty. However, what seems like an ending is really an invitation to make each day a new beginning, in which we are washed in God’s mercy and forgiveness.

Today is "Shrove Tuesday" (sometimes referred to as “Fat Tuesday”), the last day of Mardi Gras. It is the day before Lent officially begins. "Shrove" is based on the past tense of an old English verb "shrive," which means absolution from sins through confession. Shrove Tuesday gets its name from the custom of Christians to be "shriven" before the start of Lent. The feast before Ash Wednesday comes exactly 47 days before Easter Sunday.

Today we celebrate Epiphany! 🌟 The feast of Epiphany concludes the Christmas season with a celebration of God’s glory, revealed in the person of Jesus Christ, born among us and immersed in the messiness, complexity and commonness of humanity. We pray that we will recognize God’s divine presence and activity in the world for the redemption and healing of humankind, and for the nurturing of our lives to better emulate Jesus.
