Forget Your Network. Make Friends.

GW is an ambitious environment. How can you successfully merge your desire to succeed with your call to build authentic meaningful friendships? Former GW Catholics President Colin Murphy explains in Those Catholic Men how the nature of networking and friendships of utility may lead to less happy and less fulfilling lives down the road. By: Colin Murphy As I was leaving college and entering the working world, the most common advice I received was, “It’s not what you know. It’s who you know.” This maxim emphasizes the importance of networking, but it’s problematic. There are many different levels of knowing, and networking...

We had a blast at Panama in the Capital | #wydDC yesterday, celebrating World Youth Day! It's days like #WYD2019 that reinforce the importance for young adults to be on fire for their faith.

“And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose.” Romans 8:28

The Lord will surround you with love and belonging.

Today, Fr. Charlie and our campus minister Julie got together to plan out the new year for GW Catholics. To further celebrate the Christmas season, Fr. Charlie decided to show Julie the Christmas decorations at Immaculate Conception — his home parish.

Unexpectedly, a group of 12 Missionaries of Charity Sisters walks into the church hall, also wanting to celebrate the Christmas season. Fr. Charlie, Julie, and the sisters prayed a rosary for GW students and community.

This small example of God’s providence shows us that through Christ’s guidance we always find ourselves where He wants us to be. Let this be a reminder as we enter the New Year, that the events of the past do not define our present or our future but lay the groundwork for God to set us forth on the path he has decided for us. Open your hearts to God’s direction and—we promise—you will ALWAYS find your way to joy.

Father's House Fall Retreat 2018

Thank you to students, alumni, and parents for joining us at our Parent's & Alumni Weekend Vigil Mass on Saturday.

“Seek is a beautiful opportunity to see young people on fire for their faith. You can really see how everyone really wants to learn so much more about their faith. It’s a truly amazing experience as you will definitely see Jesus alive within the youth.”

Eliza is one of the missionaries for GW Catholics. In 2015, she was studying at Harvard and she went to Seek in Nashville. It was a huge turning point in her faith and it was her first confession since 5th grade. She really started to understand more about the reality of her faith and of Jesus. She believes it is a great way for students to give God a chance to speak to their hearts away from the craziness of every day life.

"I was really scared, I was afraid because I didn’t know a lot of people. Don’t be afraid, you’ll be getting to know a lot of other people. But you’ll also get to know God more and it’s worth it to go. Even if you don’t want to go for religious purposes and you just want to get a break from being in the city, that’s good. But don’t be afraid. Mary said yes and you should too."

Alex de Roos opens up about her first experience with the Father's House Fall Retreat. Registration closes tomorrow, sign up now at the link in our bio!

“I’m hoping to deepen that understanding that I got from last year. How do I live my life with this knowledge of God the Father? If I’m already aware of this, then what do I do with it?”

Matt Gilmore shares some of the questions he is bringing into this year's Father's House Fall Retreat on November 2-4. It is the perfect time to relax and reflect amidst hectic midterms. Sign up by October 23 at

"Father’s House Retreat means a break from school, being outside, and also a break from technology because the place doesn’t have nice cell service. It means immersing myself in my faith, more than just however much time I can allow during school."

Sophomore Alex de Roos talks about escaping the hustle and bustle of midterm season at Father's House Fall Retreat. The last day to sign up is October 23, check out the link in our bio!

"Give Father's House a chance because you never know what situations God is going to use in your life to let you know about His presence and what He wants from you. And so when a situation comes up like this where the opportunity is ripe for the taking to get to know God the Father, I suggest you take it."

Junior Matt Gilmore shares some words of wisdom about the Father's House Fall Retreat. Come join us November 2-4! Last day to reserve your spot is October 23, and you can sign up online at
