Saint James Church Fordham

St James Episcopal Church is the Anglican presence in the Northwest Bronx neighborhood of Fordham / Kingsbridge Heights. A multicultural microcosm of the Anglican Communion with members from dozens of countries.

It was founded July 5, 1853, becoming the first Episcopal parish in Fordham. The parish at first met at the Manor Reformed Church on Kingsbridge Road, then on June 11, 1854 acquired an old schoolhouse for use. On October 1, 1854, the Rev. Joshua Weaver became its first rector.[4]

The church was designed in 1863 by noted architect Henry C. Dudley (1813-1894). Bishop Horatio Potter laid the corners

Ekklesiastes: Seeing By Ear

Sermon for Easter 3c I’m sure that all of us have heard someone say, “I can’t read music but I can play by ear.” What that means is that a person can hear the notes that they need to play in their head and follow the melody along themselves as they go along. Although I have to admit that whenever I hear someone say that...

Ekklesiastes: No Boundary to Grace

Sunday's sermon. All of our Scripture readings today point in the direction of healing the division that has existed since the days when God first created a covenant with Abraham and designated him as the ancestor of a special, holy, and chosen people. This was a people separated from all the other nations of the ea...
