We had a great day yesterday! It started early with a sunrise service and 14 of us singing “Christ the Lord is Risen Today” to a sleepy neighborhood. Then we gathered at our normal service and had 44 in attendance-the highest we’ve had at one service since the pandemic started. We finished off with a great meal together!
We hope your heart is hot enough to boil over and join us in corporate praise and worship today!

We are a family church that seeks to follow God by opening the Scriptures and revealing Christ. Our church exists to tell the people of the Bronx (and specifically, the Kingsbridge neighborhood) about the good news of salvation.

As we open the Scriptures, we desire that Christ is revealed. Our church was started in 2017 under the leadership of Pastor Ben Hamilton. The Hamilton family was sent from Bethel Baptist Fellowship (www.bethelbaptistfellowship.org) in Sheepshead Bay, Brooklyn to start this new church work in Kingsbridge, Bronx. The Hamiltons have been ministering in New York City since 2010. They currently serve u

We had our Christmas dinner at church today and it was nice to have a full house again!

12/24/2020

When the heavens shall ring, and the angels sing,
At Thy coming to victory,
Let Thy voice call me home, saying "Yet there is room,
There is room at My side for thee."
My heart shall rejoice, Lord Jesus,
When Thou comest and callest for me.

He left His throne in heaven, dwelling on earth with sinful man, in order to make it possible for us to dwell with Him for eternity. He desires to be close to us; He was motivated by His love for us. Today let’s be motivated by love for Him as we ponder all that it meant for Jesus to leave His throne—for us.

1 John 3:1 Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God...

Ephesians 1:5-6 (KJV) 5 Having predestinated us unto the adoption of children by Jesus Christ to himself, according to the good pleasure of his will, 6 To the praise of the glory of his grace, wherein he hath made us accepted in the beloved.

12/24/2020

Thou camest, O Lord, with the living word
That should set Thy people free;
But with mocking scorn, and with crown of thorn,
They bore Thee to Calvary.
O come to my heart, Lord Jesus,
There is room in my heart for Thee.

This hymn was written by Emily Elliott as a mnemonic way to teach the Gospel to Sunday School children. It is not just a Christmas gun, because it tells the story of Christ—His coming, and WHY He came.

“The mighty One has chosen to dwell with us, to trade His rightful crown for one of ignoble scorn in order to revive our broken spirits and redeem our wayward hearts.” —Nancy DeMoss Wolgemuth

12/23/2020

The foxes found rest, and the birds their nest
In the shade of the forest tree;
But Thy couch was the sod, O Thou Son of God,
In the deserts of Galilee.
O come to my heart, Lord Jesus,
There is room in my heart for Thee.

“[Jesus] came, lived in, and loved a world that wouldn’t accept Him. We place too high a value on ourselves if we require that we be treated with greater importance than He was accorded.” —Nancy DeMoss Wolgemuth

How amazing too the thought—that the Son of God, walked on earth and was rejected repeatedly, but now we have the opportunity to open our hearts to Him and let Him come in! Have you made room for the Lord in your life today?

12/21/2020

Heaven's arches rang when the angels sang,
Proclaiming Thy royal degree;
But of lowly birth didst Thou come to earth,
And in great humility.
O come to my heart, Lord Jesus,
There is room in my heart for Thee.

Philippians 2:5-8 (KJV) 5 Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus: 6 Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God: 7 But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men: 8 And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.

“Jesus came for more than the telling of a Christmas story. Jesus, the One of whom the angels sang, came to the world as a person of humble birth. Jesus, the One whose garments are forever inscribed with His proper title as ‘King of kings and Lord of lords’ came to be roughly treated, cruelly fitted with a crown of human hatred and derision. Such is the extent of His devotion [to us].” —Nancy DeMoss Wolgemuth

Today let’s take a moment to thank the Lord for all He gave up in order to make our salvation possible! Yesterday in the sermon from Matthew 1 we learned that He came down to dwell with us in humanity, in order to open the door for us to dwell with Him in heaven forevermore!!!

Thou didst leave Thy throne and Thy kingly crown,
When Thou camest to earth for me;
But in Bethlehem's home was there found no room
For Thy holy nativity.
O come to my heart, Lord Jesus,
There is room in my heart for Thee.

Jesus left the glory of heaven to put on humanity and be born in this wretched, sinful world. And on the night He was born, He was turned away with the words, "No room."

“When deity put on humanity, Jesus understood He was simultaneously choosing humility. Whereas in heaven he was the undisputed center of all attention, on earth He was undeniably persona non grata. We must therefore ask ourselves: are we anywhere near as willing as He was to be overlooked and outcast? Do we demand our rights and place of prominence, what we feel we're entitled to, our personal preferences? —Nancy Demoss Wolgemuth

This is Pastor’s favorite Christmas hymn. It tells us the story of our Savior and all that He gave up in order to be born, and ultimately die, for your sins and mine. We will continue looking at it next week.

“How utterly terrible is the idea that Christians can serve God at their own convenience.” —A.W.Tozer

Serving the Lord takes intentionality, work, and sacrifice. Jesus called it taking up our cross to follow Him. It means dying to self. David put it this way:

2 Samuel 24:24 (KJV)
And the king said unto Araunah, Nay; but I will surely buy it of thee at a price: neither will I offer burnt offerings unto the LORD my God of that which doth cost me nothing. So David bought the threshingfloor and the oxen for fifty shekels of silver.

11/19/2020

17 Although the fig tree shall not blossom, neither shall fruit be in the vines; the labour of the olive shall fail, and the fields shall yield no meat; the flock shall be cut off from the fold, and there shall be no herd in the stalls: 18 Yet I will rejoice in the LORD, I will joy in the God of my salvation.
🍇
The progression of figs, to grapes, to olives, to no grain or herds can represent a bad to worse situation. In Habakkuk’s economy, the figs were a delicacy. It represented something that was liked which was taken away, but they could live without it. It was an annoyance. Losing the grapes was losing the beverage of most of the country, so now it wasn’t just annoying, it was a major inconvenience. But when the olive crop fails, now the ability to function has been lost. Olive oil fueled the lamps and was used in cooking. It’s now a serious struggle. Can Habakkuk praise God even then? Well it’s going to get worse if the grain crops are lost. This is the equivalent of economic failure, and likely meant starvation for portions of the population. And when there are no livestock in the stalls there is no ability to produce food. The whole production system was wiped out.
🌾
That sounds pretty bad. But whether our situation is an annoying inconvenience or an devastating, ruinous circumstance, we can choose as Habakkuk did to respond like this:
YET WILL I REJOICE IN THE LORD.

“If we were to get our eyes off of self and off of the bigness of the problem and on to the bigness of God, our hearts would swell with gratitude.”
—Mary Kassian

Let’s talk to our souls in the words of Psalm 103:2, and remind ourselves that we need to “Bless the LORD...and forget not all his benefits.” Give yourself this Biblical advice when you’re facing difficulties. Then take your eyes off of how big the problem seems, and focus instead on the bigness and greatness of our amazing God.
