Ocker Brethren Church

Ocker Brethren Church

I want the wonderful congregation of Ocker Brethren to know that many many people in Georgetown are lifting you up in prayer during this time of this tragedy. Many people are praying that God will strengthen each of you with a strong resolve to repair this beautiful house of God and move forward. You are being loved and prayed over now and in the weeks ahead. To explain- I was an infant in that church. I was baptized there, confirmed there and accepted Christ there. I attended bible school there as my children did and later grandchildren. After we moved away, we returned for the wonderful Harvest Suppers and Holidays. Three years ago, as my son, Micah, was in the last days of his life, he asked if he could please be buried at Ocker as his final resting place. So - this church will always be part of my life. I thank God I have been a part of that home - even if it was indirectly. God bless you all. Diane (Psencik) Dossett
Yall Come! Great Food! Great Fellowship!
is there a VBS this summer? Thanks!
It was 1981 July 17 and I was upstairs wiping off the chairs in the balcony for my wedding July 18, 1981. I love this church as I have many fond memories of attending church here with my Aunt Mary and Uncle Clarence Baca, and my cousins, Sonny & Alan.
We are so excited to watch GOD move at Temple Brethren Church here in Temple, Texas as we "Break Ground," for our NEW YOUTH MINISTRY! Join us Wednesday, January 31st 2018 @ 7:00pm! Of course we would love as a Church to welcome you to our Sunday Morning Service! See you there! Regardless of where you are, the "Unity of the Brethren," want to WELCOME YOU TO THE FAMILY!
Does anyone have the arrangement s for Bro. Mike's Dad

We are rebuilding Operation Christmas Child! The fire destroyed all OCC gift items that have been collected since January. An amazon Wishlist page has been created to help us recollect items for the shoeboxes. In addition, if you feel called to give a monetary donation, please send it to the church mailing address, P.O. Box 806 Rogers, TX 76569, and state that it is for Operation Christmas Child. Thank you all and God Bless! For more information, please contact Erin Brinkley.

Lone Star Back Roads

It's been a bad year for historic churches in Central Texas... I read last night that the Ocker Brethren Church (just a few miles east of Green's Sausage House in Zabcikville) suffered damage from a fire on the evening of April 2. Fortunately, the building was not totally destroyed and it sounds like it can be restored.

This one is only a few minutes down the road from the Church of the Visitation in Westphalia (burned July 29, 2019) and about thirty minutes away from the former Central Christian Church in Barlett (burned September 8, 2019).

Margie and I were driving east out of Rosebud on Sunday, August 19, 2018 into this beautiful sunset and happened to make it to the church just in time to photograph it from several different angles!

Every Praise 🙌🏻

Crazy hair, no makeup, beginning guitar playing morning worship time. WHOOT! Love you, Lord!

[04/04/20]   A huge thank you to everybody who has stopped by and prayed for us or encouraged us over the past day and a half. We have done all the work we can at the church and we have now turned things over to our restoration company who is going to help us the rest of the way. They have boarded and taped up the church. During this time, for your safety, please do not try to go inside the church. However, feel free to call me or Stacie with any questions or concerns you have. Please keep praying...and we will see you all on our worship
live stream tomorrow at 10:15...Bro. Brad

We are definitely blessed and there is a lot of restoration before us ....so glad that the sanctuary and beautiful windows were saved... seems structurally good but definitely see some smoke damage on the upper part, if you zoom in it’s visible...but so lucky to be able to see what was actually saved! But it’s very hard to look at the part the Church that was destroyed..... lifting it all to God ~ So thankful for all of the VFD!

To God be the glory!

[04/03/20]   We want to thank all of the local fire departments and first responders who answered the call so quickly and did a great job containing the fire last night. Our church will always be in your debt for saving our beloved building. We have a long road of restoration ahead of us but God is good and we will be okay. Thanks for your prayers.

To God be the glory!

Please pray.
As many of you have seen and heard, our beloved church caught on fire this evening. Preliminary thoughts are that we have lost the upstairs Sunday school rooms and that the sanctuary and areas under those rooms have smoke and water damage. We won't know more until tomorrow.
God's word assures us that He is with us, and as we have been traveling through new waters in light of CoVid, he has been with us, and leading us. We know, without a doubt, that he is with us now, even in this, and will carry us through what lies ahead.
His blessings overflow already. Thank you to each and every first responder who answered the call. Thank you to each and every person who came to offer encouragement and prayers. And thank you to each of you for lifting our congregation to the Lord as we face the days ahead.
The church is not a building; it is his people. We love each you and pray God uses this moment to bring even more glory to him.
May the verses below offer encouragement and assurance that God will rescue and God will deliver.

[04/01/20]   Livestream at 6 PM tonight.

[03/29/20]   At last, Sunday is here. Worship starts at 10:15! Join us!

[03/25/20]   Brad will be live streaming tonight at 6PM. Join in as he gives us a few thoughts about the upcoming sermon on Sunday and offers three "pros" of virtual worship! Also, lets use this time to comment on the stream and check in with each other. 6 PM tonight!

[03/24/20]   A good quote from e.e. cummings that I wanted all of us to start our morning with (despite what the news might say and despite the virus): "I thank you God for this most amazing day, for the leaping greenly spirits of trees, and for the blue dream of sky and for everything which is natural, which is infinite, which is yes."

This is the Day the Lord has made. What are we going to do in response to the sun rising in the sky today?

[03/22/20]   What a great message Bro. Brad! For children's time, God has been laying on my heart how we can be the hands and feet of Jesus when we can't touch, we can't go, we can't physically be in contact with others. How do we spread hope and kick fear to the curb?
Yes. We join in on social media. We make phone calls and send texts to check on our friends and family. But....Why not take it one step further and return to the old ways, and teach our children a life skill in the process.
I encourage you and your family to write a letter to the staff and residents of a nursing center or to our shut-ins. Send a note of encouragement, a card with a special prayer, a drawing or coloring with a Bible verse. Let them know they aren't alone. Let them know God is with them and his people are praying for them.
And...teach life skills in the process. Most teens, let alone children, do not know how to properly address an envelope. Some do not know their own mailing address, or what a zip code is. Help them! Teach them! Explain how mail works, maybe even tell them about how you used to write letters and send them and WAIT for a response (even passing notes in class took forever!).
I digress.
As you stay at home this week, look for opportunities to share HOPE. Be loving, be compassionate, be generous. Be the hands and feet of Jesus!
If you need addresses for our shut-ins, pm or text Jenn. If you need addresses for nursing centers, check Google or call the center directly.
Love each and every one of you guys and lift you in prayer daily. ❤️ Mrs. Jenn

March 22, 2020 Message: Punching Fear in the Mouth!

[03/20/20]   Remember - “There is no such thing as false hope...only hope.”

[03/17/20]   Yesterday the President and his health advisory board recommended that people practice social distancing and not meet together in groups of ten or more for at least the next fifteen days. As of now, this is not mandatory, but it is recommended.

The Board discussed this issue and has decided that all church activities be cancelled until further notice in an effort to stop the spread of this terrible virus. We encourage everybody to help the less fortunate and vulnerable in this time of need.
