How Do You Receive the Message of the Word of God? We come to these verses in Galatians Chapter 6 regarding the importance of the Word of God and the sowing of the seed of the Word of God, but turn to that passage in Acts Chapter 17. Paul and Silas have travelled to Berea. They have just been through a period of tremendous trouble as a result of their preaching the Gospel of Jesus Christ and teaching The Word of God, but that did not put them off. In Berea, they preached in the synagogue, and the people "received the message with great eagerness" - verse 11. BUT LOOK WHAT THEY DID. They examined the Scriptures every day to see if what Paul said was true. Never accept anything just because a Bible Teacher or Preacher proclaims a certain message. Go home and check it out. Go home and make sure that what was taught was actually what the Scriptures said. This is important for our spiritual welfare and well-being - and safety. Those who teach will be judged more strictly than others. (James 3 verse 1) It is wise to take time to check out what is said - not only on Sundays or on other occasions - but also what we say in our everyday conversation. This applies to our behaviour too - where we go - what we do there - what we may become involved in. It is wise to check it out with what is in The Word of God. The ideas or thoughts or fashions of men can be very misleading, and can lead us into dangerous areas. Just because a man says something - that settles nothing - no matter who that man might be. Jesus has given us teachers to open up this Word - so that we might come to grasp the significance of every part. We see the need for a teacher in Acts Chapter 8 at verse 26. There is a man travelling from Jerusalem to North Africa. He is the Chancellor of the Exchequer to the Queen of Ethiopia. On his way home he is reading the book of Isaiah, and when he comes to Chapter 53 he cannot make sense of it. He cannot grasp its significance. And God has provided a Bible teacher to be in the vicinity - a man who knew what the Word meant - a man who was filled with the Holy Spirit. We are allowed to overhear this conversation. GOD takes us right into the chariot. This important official needs someone who can explain what he is reading - someone who can teach - and Philip points him to Jesus Christ. This Chancellor was reading all about Jesus, but he did not recognise HIM. He needed a teacher - someone who could reveal from the Word of God, Jesus Christ - and he came to believe. This Chancellor spotted some water - and he asks Philip - "Why shouldn't I be baptised?" From what we read nobody had mentioned baptism - but right away - the Chancellor and Philip went down into the water - and Philip baptised the Chancellor. In the New Testament baptism is never trifled with - it is never postponed. There is no record of anyone being baptised without believing - without coming to a degree of faith. He was not told he needed six weeks of preparation classes. As soon as he came to believe in Jesus - the old man was buried - and the new creation emerged clean and obedient. A teacher was needed, and it is Jesus who gives teachers to the Church. Jesus gives Apostles, Prophets, Evangelists, Pastors and Teachers. There are times when we may exercise more than one of these ministries. Returning to Galatians 6 - we are called to sow abundantly - generously - we are not to be stingy or mean with God. We don't give God our tips - but our first fruits. And, at the proper time, we will reap a harvest, IF WE DO NOT GIVE UP. “Gracious God, You are so generous. That day when You created the water we see such generosity – that day when Jesus went to the cross to rescue and save and forgive, we see such generous costly love. Help me to respond with my life, my gifts, my abilities – my all – in Jesus Name. Amen.” (This week's "Word from Scotland" - previous columns may be read at Studylight.org in the 'Archives' - warmest greetings in Christ Jesus.)
We Are What We Eat In Galatians Chapter 6 verse 6, we read, “Anyone who receives instruction in the word must share all good things with his instructor.” This is a verse which most preachers and teachers do not like to mention, but we have to consider the whole Word. We have to embrace every part of it. Each of us needs teaching. Each of us needs someone to teach us the Word of God. We return to complete our reading and study of Paul’s letter to the Galatians following our consideration of what actually happened at that time of the birth of Jesus. Remember – a few weeks ago - we read these words in Romans Chapter 10, that faith comes through hearing, and hearing the Word of God. Perhaps today - in one sense - that has never been easier for those who really want to be fed from the Scriptures. There are many various excellent magazines and books and teaching aids. We can find out which are the best - not only so that we might be blessed - but so that we might learn and grow and mature in Christ. We must not depend upon any of these spiritual helps, but we have to learn how to make good use of them. The Church of Jesus Christ has never had such a menu of good sound solid teaching material, and from this verse we see that each of us needs instruction in The Word – and yet we hear that Bible Reading has declined over the past years. Make sure you are in the Word of God regularly When someone feeds us spiritually, we in turn share our material goods - our material wealth. Verse 7 - Do not be deceived - God cannot be mocked. A man reaps what he sows. This is why we seek good sound solid teaching from The Word of God to be sown in our hearts and minds - and allow good seed to have as much positive influence as possible. Now, the harvest is not immediate. A farmer does not sow this week and reap next week. It is very similar when we allow the Word of God to be sown in our lives. We may not see a harvest right away - through preaching and teaching - through our conversations - through our witness and service - but we must NOT give up. The harvest will appear in the spiritual realm - just as it appears in the physical realm. The principle is the same. As we continue to sow seed generously, God will bring it to fruition. We have to exercise patience that the Holy Spirit will take that seed, and that Jesus will do a work - the Holy Spirit will bring it to life - something will happen - our character will change - fruit will grow - lives around us may be transformed. It is quite a big ask. It is quite an expectation. It worked in the first century as soon as the Church of Jesus Christ was birthed and launched and if the pure seed is sown, it will continue to work. We might even notice the difference, as we experience more and more of the love of God - the joy and peace of God - the faithfulness of God - imparting an ability to exercise more and more self-control. Now there is nothing which can bring this about better than by feeding upon a balanced diet from the Word of God. We hear frequently today that "we are what we eat". Nowhere is that more true than in the spiritual realm. “Lord Jesus, help me to read the Bible and study the Bible. Help me not only to understand Your Word – but to share it. You are giving me a challenging task – keep me faithful, and loyal, and dependable, to the end. Amen” (This week's "Word from Scotland" - previous pieces may be found at Studylight.org in the 'Archives' section - every prayerful blessing.)
God’s Solution to Our World’s Massive Problems We are reading, and studying, these opening verses of Luke Chapter 1. Zechariah was a faithful priest in a day when there was not a lot of faithfulness around. I wonder how many people thought, “Look at that silly old priest going away to conduct a service - and say prayers - and preach something - a message - which no-one really wants to hear.” How many people might say that of us as we meet for Worship and Prayer week by week? Ignore it - forget it - overlook it. Let people say what they want. If you know you are right in the eyes of the Lord Jesus Christ, let people think and say what they like. Zechariah, and Elizabeth, his dear wife, had no child. Elizabeth was unable to bear a child, and now they were very old. They had not become sour or bitter. They had not allowed this to make them resentful or jealous. They were righteous, godly and blameless. Do not let anything at all cause you to become sour or bitter. Once in the lifetime of a priest, he would be called to lead the service in The Temple in Jerusalem, and, Zechariah’s day arrived! Zechariah was in the House of God leading the people in Praise and Prayer, and God moves and acts in that dry dead old Jewish ‘church’, when He sees a faithful man about his spiritual duties - a man who is righteous and loyal. Amidst all the corruption and formality of the religious routine - amidst all the hypocrisy of the elders and scribes and Pharisees - God has a group of Praying People - and on this day, this godly man has a group of praying people around him - supporting him and strengthening him. What an encouragement it is when a Pastor or Preacher knows that around him there is a group of praying people. Look at what happens when God sees a faithful man, and a praying people. God acts and God moves. The Lord God sends an angel, and, when the Lord God acts and moves by sending an angel, the man of God becomes troubled and afraid. When God comes near us at times - or in a new way - we too can become troubled or afraid. The angel seeks to dispel the fear, “Don’t be afraid - your prayer is heard.” God had heard His faithful servants. He always does, and God is now answering their prayers, but this is not what they expected. Prayers are not rejected because the answer is long in coming. A delay is not a denial. Elizabeth shall bear you a son, and you shall call his name John. Verse14. This will fill you with joy and gladness. Many will rejoice at his birth. This was going to be more than just a family blessing. He will be great in the sight of the Lord. It is those whom God calls great who are really great. From birth - from his mother’s womb - he will be filled with the Holy Spirit. John is being separated unto God, and for God, from conception. John is being prepared for ministry, and he is being anointed with all he will require for ministry. Who can tell what part our children might play in the mighty purposes of God? Verse 16 – What a ministry John is going to have. Could anyone wish for a higher ministry than that? He will minister in the spirit and power of Elijah. Do you realise that John is the most ignored and overlooked person in the narrative surrounding the birth of Jesus Christ. We must remember both births. Both are important in the eyes of God. He would bring fathers and children together. They had generation gap problems too. They had similar problems to those we have today - and no government, no social work department will solve them. They will only be solved when God begins to act and move - but through whom? Righteous godly men and women. In current terminology, only an anointed ministry of the Body of Christ can save and rescue this type of situation. But, here we are studying the beginning of the solution to a massive problem, and this same massive problem confronts and faces us today. Consider these words, and this move of God, carefully and thoughtfully, with a view to discovering what your part might be in the practical outworking of God’s solution to man’s multiple problems in these present days. “Loving, gracious, holy Father, we thank You for the Bible – for the way in which Your Word has been preserved over the years when men have tried to undermine and edit and modify and dilute the truth. Help us over these next days and weeks to share Your truth. Amen” (This week's "Word from Scotland" - previous articles may be read at Studylight.org in the 'Archives' section - warmest greetings in Christ Jesus.)

It is the goal of the RBC Men's Ministry to equip God's men to be faithful; faithful to the Lord Jesus Christ, to their wives, to their families, to their brothers, and to the community. We desire to follow Paul's command in 1 Corinthians 16:13-14 to "be on the alert, stand firm in the faith, act like men, be strong. Let all that you do be done in love."

Mission: Our core source and strength rests in the authority of God's Word. From there, we are committed to prayer, building strong marriages, raising up the next generation, discipleship, and personal involvement in the life of our church and community.

TIME TO RE-FUEL

FUEL VIA “ZOOM”, TUES JUN 2nd, 0630AM
Men – over the past few days, we’ve seen violence and evil manifest in 75 cities across the US. How are we as followers of Jesus to view the most recent pandemic outbreak this week - racism?

At times like this when emotions run high, how are we men, who know Jesus, called to respond? What must we do?

Here are some questions to ponder for discussion on Tuesday morning:

1. From “Minneapolis to the masses” Where Is Jesus in all of this?

2. How were you personally impacted by the video and the public outcry afterward?

3. Could God testify about you being righteous and blameless in the land? (See Job 1:8)

Consider brothers, whom you can invite. We are going to have a powerful, open, transparent and Christ centered discussion with Pastor Milton Harding.

TIME TO RE-FUEL

FUEL VIA “ZOOM”, TUES MAY 26th, 0630AM
Men – the Indy 500 didn’t run as traditional for Memorial Day weekend, but it is time for a pit-stop tomorrow morning to Re-FUEL so you can be on purpose this week.

As we talked about on Tuesday, the consensus seemed to be that before COVID 19 the "church" seemed weakened, diluted, complacent, etc. The place God has always positioned for His body is to be the thriving element illumined by Him to be "light" and "salt" in any culture to include our current one which is distracted, diseased, and dying! The call to us as men from God is to rise up and follow Him as we lead our own lives, our families, and in our churches, and the world. They are screaming loudly for us!

Here are some questions to ponder and please take the time to offer your thoughts to me and or Pastor Milton([email protected]) but more importantly obey without hesitancy what God tells you to do! I love you all!

1. Where were you spiritually/mentally prior to COVID 19? Was your pride a problem? Were you in disobedient to God about your role with Him? Has your world changed based on where your heart was (Matt. 6:21)?

2. What changes do you need to make if any, be real with yourself? When will you make them? Your desire to make changes will determine when you make them. Do you need someone to walk with you or to help you?

3. What were your takeaways from our time together. What did God say to you?

Do a spiritual introspection, and then do a family reset as we are living in a time of commanded and demanded “repentance” by God, to live our professed calling not in perfection but in purity....

1 John 1:7 NASB
“but if we walk in the Light as He Himself is in the Light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus His Son cleanses us from all sin.”

Psalm 51:10 NASBS
“Create in me a clean heart, O God, And renew a steadfast spirit within me.”

For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart. And no creature is hidden from his sight, but all are naked and exposed to the eyes of him to whom we must give account.

Brothers, let’s keep it real, that's the only way God can help us!

Calling ALL MEN!

The call to us as men from God is to rise up and follow Him as we lead our own lives, our families, and in our churches, and the world.

GETTING FUELED UP

FUEL VIA “ZOOM”, TUES MAY 19th, 0630AM
Men – as you come to the end of your weekend and the start of your week, how are you getting prepared?

To be men of God, we need to be men of understanding - of the times, of the world and of the culture, before, during and after the coronavirus. God is sovereign over the coronavirus. Every aspect of life globally has been impacted, and He will not rebuild on destruction. We need to be wise, but not distracted in what the coronavirus is doing. Instead - FOCUS on what GOD is DOING!

And to be men of understanding, we need a foundation for what WE are to be doing. Consider these questions as you prepare for gathering together on Tues morning with other men serious about transformation and to be prepared to disciple:

• Given our fellowship conversation what was your takeaway and how / what did the Lord say to you?

• Three principles from Ezra 7:9-10
1. Ezra studied the Word
2. He practiced it
3. and he taught it

• What would your personal common ground be with the example Ezra displayed in Ezra 7:10? Why was the hand of the Lord on Ezra. (Ezra 7:28, Ezra 7:1-9)

• As men of God, heads of homes, what should be our focus in this pandemic season?

• Read Philippians 3

We will “see” you via zoom on Tuesday morning as we continue in our FUEL Series with Pastor Milton Harding; “Thriving During the Coronavirus”

THRIVING DURING THE CORONAVIRUS
For most of us, we’ve been hunkered down for the past 6 weeks trying to self-protect and survive the coronavirus, longing for life to return the “normal”, and be the same as it was pre-COVID. Even as the nation moves into phase one, we can be assured – it will not be. But isn’t it possible that a sovereign God is in the midst of this seismic event which has interrupted every aspect of life across the globe?

Instead of being sad for the way life used to be, how do we make the paradigm shift from the mindset of self-protection and surviving - to thriving and flourishing in the midst of it? How do we have a heart that’s listening, preparing and anticipating with the expectation that God acting. And how are we to respond as followers of Christ?

Join us for our new FUEL Series with Pastor Milton Harding;
“Thriving During the Coronavirus”

We welcome ALL men, regardless of where you live, what church you attend or if you even attend a church.

If you attend Reston Bible, you’ll remember Pastor Milton as the speaker at our 2017 Men’s Retreat. In addition to being a godly man, husband, and father, Milton, a former Chaplain with the Washington Redskins, believes strongly that teaching, mentoring, and strengthening men in their walk with Christ is key to returning our homes, churches, & communities back to God.

One final thought. Think FUEL isn't for you?

The enemy wants to keep us men in isolation, forgetting who we are in Christ. But God did not intend for us to “go it alone.” Christ came to radically transform our lives and those around us. Whether it’s in our families, with co-workers, or friends, Christ wants to use you to reflect him and to share him with others.

Can you get on that same computer you’ll be working on all day tomorrow just a little bit earlier in the morning?

FUEL VIA “ZOOM”, TOMORROW 0630 AM APR 28TH

A CALL FOR MEN OF GOD TO GATHER
Men – if there was ever a time for us men to come together it is now. Social distancing does not mean isolation, but for many, the impact on mental, physical and spiritual health is similar. Depending on how you’re wired, introvert or extrovert, you might be either enjoying more “quiet-time” or feeling more and more lethargic and anxious about how long this will last.

It’s been said that this is the first time since we have been alive that actively practicing social isolation is a method to “improve health”. However, some studies suggest that the impact of isolation and loneliness on health and mortality are of the same order of magnitude as such risk factors as high blood pressure, obesity, and smoking.

This is not a call to civil disobedience to secretly gather. But it is a call to Join the Call on ZOOM tomorrow morning @ 6:30. If you’re a man who is like a tree planted by streams of water, then join in and bring the fruit of encouragement. If you’re a man who is thirsty for the water of life, burdened and weary, this is the place. We all need each other as it was said – for such a time as this. Loneliness is a reality of the times, but God’s truth is greater.

Join us tomorrow at FUEL via Zoom @ 0630 – 0745h, as we consider “Anxiety about Isolation” with Jonathan Pokluda, lead pastor of Harris Baptist Church in Waco, TX.
