Blessed Pentecost Day
May 4th thought of the day.
First Sunday food collection is coming, and the need at LINK is greater than ever! Requests for assistance have increased 585% over this time last year, with families in need jumping from 20 last year to 137! Bring nonperishable food to the church parking lot on Sunday, May 3, from noon-1pm for a contact-free collection. Bettyann and Jeff Biber and Heather Williams will have their trunks available for food drop off and will then deliver the food to the LINK pantry. This will be a time for service, not socializing, so we'll stay at least 6 feet apart and save conversations for online!

I mentioned sewing face masks during service this morning. If anyone has a need, I have a limited amount of elastic, plenty of fabric and plenty of ribbon. Please let me know if you would like one (comment below). I will make them, tag them, and drop them in plastic baggies at the church. I will even take requests for colors/themes of fabric.
If you missed your service today, I invite you to worship with us.

Our Backpack Blessing will be digital this year. Please have your technology/learning tools available on Sunday morning during the service. We'll be handing out CLC vinyl stickers to decorate laptops and water bottles/thermoses on the 27th during in-person worship.

We're now in the Time after Pentecost, also known as Ordinary Time. But there's nothing "ordinary" about it! We hear #parables and stories of Jesus' ministry and through the Holy Spirit poured out on Pentecost, we #grow like creation around us!
.
So join us for worship Sunday mornings at 10:00 a.m. on Facebook Live (clcsterling) as we experience how the #extraordinary breaks into the #ordinary. The bulletins are posted on the Facebook Livestream as well as our website: communitylutheran.org under "Announcements." See you there!

Thank you to Joan, Mimi, Dee Dee, and Tracey (the ice cream truck owner) for making tonight’s ice cream party happen and for all who came on a beautiful evening to make it a fabulous success!

Are you ready for some ice cream?! Tonight, bring your own chairs/picnic blankets and we'll enjoy a socially distanced ice cream party outside with an ice cream truck (bring cash or cards for payment). In the event of rain, we'll postpone until September 25th at 6:30 PM. #icecreamparty🍦 #togetheragain #clcsterlingva

Where were you that day?

We continue to pray for all of those affected by this day’s events and all that followed. May Christ’s comfort and the peace that passes all understanding guard our hearts and minds as we remember, mourn, come together on this day.

Today we remember the anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks in New York City, Washington, D.C., and Shanksville, Pennsylvania.

-What is it?
-Is it a surprise to you that you feel this way about this thing?
-How might others describe you after you’ve had time to pursue this activity?
-How does it change you or has it changed you?
-How might you make more time for this in your week?

Happy Labor Day! I hope you get time off to rest and be refreshed today!

On Labor Day we recognize the work people do for the benefit of society and the sustenance of their families. We pray that all have fair, safe work, are renewed through times of sabbath, and find joy and fulfillment in their labor; we pray for all those who seek employment and for the well-being and care for people who are unable to work.
