First Sunday of Advent... #hope #keepawake #adventsthome #adventworship #clcsterlingva #ourhopeandexpectation
Post how you’re celebrating Advent here along with pictures of your wreath/candles!
Beginning in #advent, on December 3, on Thursday evenings at 7:30 PM, we will be discussing the book "Waking Up White: and Finding Myself in the Story of Race" by Debby Irving. This book describes the author's experience with learning about #racism over the course of her life.
We will meet via Zoom and, in order to participate, please purchase the book ahead of time and read the assigned chapters in advance of each meeting. We look forward to having fruitful and honest conversation together! #clcsterlingva #antiracism #bookstudy #conversations
#giftsofhope 1st Sunday in Advent: Hope
“There is surely a future hope for you, and your hope will not be cut off.” -Proverbs 23:18
Gifts of Hope, a program within our local ELCA Synod, helps give hope. Our congregation’s support of this program is translated into direct service by local and global organizations that help those in need. Many choose to give in honor of someone they know and end up changing the life of another they don’t know. This Advent season, will you consider giving a gift of hope? Visit www.giftsofhopedc.org for more information.

DREAM OUT LOUD!
What does that even mean? Our Advent theme this year is “Those Who Dream:” “Psalm 126 opens with the line: ‘When the Lord restored the fortunes of Zion, we were like those who dream.’ What does it look like to live as those who dream? The prophets, the psalmists, John the Baptist, Mary, Elizabeth, Joseph, Simeon, Anna, the shepherds and the Magi—they were all dreamers. They received, discovered, and responded to God’s dreams for the world. In Advent, we step into the mystery and awe of God’s dreams and pray they shape our reality.
As you hopefully already know, Community Lutheran Church had a group of very dedicated members who spent countless hours compiling the results of our SWOT Exercise and CAT Survey in order to bring forward a spending and staffing plan for CLC.
The proposed Ministry Spending Plan and Staffing Plan were approved at our Annual Congregational Meeting on November 15th. These plans include hiring a part-time Director of Communications and calling a part-time Co-Pastor to fulfill our Advent 2020-Epiphany 2023 Strategic Plan. The core of the Strategic Plan for CLC going forward consists of Welcome, Community, Christian Formation, and Outreach. That, dear members and friends, is CLC — DREAMING OUT LOUD!
In order for us to Dream Out Loud, we need the three major ingredients to be given from the bounty God has already given us: Time, Talents and Treasure. We have been blessed with faithful givers in all these respects. The challenge for CLC is to continue to be faithful givers.
Please prayerfully consider your pledge of Time, Talent and Treasure to CLC for the coming year so the dreams God has given us may come to fruition. As part of this, please complete and return your financial pledge to the church at your earliest convenience. Paper pledge cards are available for pick up at the church, but we also encourage you to complete your pledge digitally (see our website for the digital version of the pledge card here: https://communitylutheran.org/dream-out-loud-stewardship-campaign/).
Yours in Christ,

Part two of behind the scenes.....
For the last two weeks, we have been inside. For those who have been wondering where the music is coming from, we have made a little informational video. Our choir is making music in the sanctuary during the service. You can’t see us but we are grateful to be worshipping with you again.
