Fun Fact: Do you remember last falls production of Cry Baby? Parents, do you remember how well that show went? All of your superstar children sounding and acted brilliantly. Student, do you remember how much fun you had? You learned so much in the process of this elaborate production and responded to the unique challenges like consummate professionals. Well do you know who isn't acting professionally now? YOUR TEACHERS AND YOUR SCHOOL! The professional LA musicians who worked hard to make the music as good as possible for your production STILL HAVE NOT BEEN COMPENSATED FOR THER TIME AND ENERGY TO PERFORM IN THIS PRODUCTION. Since all of you are possible future artists, I am probably not the first to tell you that road to establishing oneself in the performing arts world is not easy. I personally work three jobs to be able to afford to continue to live and work in LA. Not getting paid for this production has been a huge burden to me and my livelihood. I have had to borrow money and make huge sacrifices to compensate lack of payment for the cry baby production. At this point, I am beginning to feel that I may never get paid the money I was promised by your beloved school. What can you do? Well, you can ask questions? ask Otto Layman, ask Jon Nathan, ask Principle Becchio Why do you guys treat people this way? Why do you take advantage of independent artists like this? What can we do as future performing artists to stand for fairness and support a system which allows independent artists to earn a livelihood for themselves. If you plan on being a performing artist, there is a possibility that you could be taken advantage of the same way that many professional musicians have been by your school. THIS IS YOUR CHANCE TO STAND FOR A HIGHER STANDARD OF ARTIST PAY EQUALITY. While I know the devastating fires and floods have impacted your community in huge ways, the production of Cry Baby was in October more than a month before the fires started. My thoughts and prayers go out the friends and families that live in affected areas, but it is time for you school to do right and own up to the promises they made to musicians that made this production what it was. Thank you for your time and I appreciate your further awareness.
