In gratitude, to the beautiful St. John's community: The holiday season is a lively time, but the experience of it can be mixed. For some, it is a joyous period of family, reunion, and spiritual renewal. For others, it may bring poignancy or outright sorrow. For all, the joyous, the reflective, the lonely, the bereaved, the “bah humbug,” the “deck the halls,” the “Hallelujah,” I extend my heartfelt good wishes. May we all, wherever we are, whatever our state, whatever our beliefs, find peace and a strengthened connection with each other and the positive, nourishing forces of life at this potent time of year. Nancy I ❤️🙏

[11/03/20]   PRAYER FOR TODAY:
By Audette Fulbright Fulson
Did you rise this morning,
broken and hung over
with weariness and pain
and rage tattered from waving too long in a brutal wind?
Get up, child.
Pull your bones upright
gather your skin and muscle into a patch of sun.
Draw breath deep into your lungs;
you will need it
for another day calls to you.
I know you ache.
I know you wish the work were done
and you
with everyone you have ever loved
were on a distant shore
safe, and unafraid.
But remember this,
tired as you are:
you are not alone.
Here
and here
and here also
there are others weeping
and rising
and gathering their courage.
You belong to them
and they to you
and together,
we will break through
and bend the arc of justice
all the way down
into our lives.

We are all set up for Election Day! If you haven’t done so yet, don’t forget to vote!

Pastor Theresa joined other interfaith clergy at Congregation Emanu-El in participating in the national Mourning into Unity virtual vigil.

Excerpt from one of the prayers:

“We mourn the loss of the belief in science. We mourn the deaths from COVID-19 and the destruction from hurricanes and wildfires. We mourn for our democracy.

We mourn for all those who live in a world that sees the color of their skin as a threat. We mourn for the victims of violence not only on the streets but also in the halls of our government. We mourn the death of businesses that provided livelihoods to many people.

We mourn because so much of what we called normal is gone.

In the midst of so much loss and pain, we have gathered to declare our hope for something better and our commitment to making it possible. Yet, hope does not lessen the need to grieve — to sob, yell, throw up our hands, and fall to our knees in grief.”
