In gratitude, to the beautiful St. John's community:

The holiday season is a lively time, but the experience of it can be mixed.

For some, it is a joyous period of family, reunion, and spiritual renewal.

For others, it may bring poignancy or outright sorrow.

For all, the joyous, the reflective, the lonely, the bereaved,
the “bah humbug,” the “deck the halls,” the “Hallelujah,” I
extend my heartfelt good wishes.

May we all, wherever we are, whatever our state, whatever our beliefs, find peace and a strengthened connection with each other and the positive, nourishing forces of life at this potent time of year.

Justice. Justice. Justice.

Nearly one year ago, the walls and windows of our city were painted over with these murals demanding justice for George Floyd. Now, we rejoice in today’s moment of justice, while we continue to cry out for all of those for whom justice is still elusive. We look to and pray for the day when justice rolls down like waters for all.

We are so grateful for Matt Burns, an incredible artist in our community, who painted these watercolor pieces to evoke the shadows of Jesus' final days.

Here's what Matt has to say about this work:

"The physical world around us is so immediate. When I contemplate scripture, I often look to nature as a reassuring companion. I see the trickle of a stream or the trail of wildflowers and my mind conjures complexity among the simple: a leaf on sand embodies fragile tragedy, a meadow may evoke fellowship-perhaps a tree suggests mighty forces felled. Contemplating the journey of Christ during Easter season is a personal trek. Inspired by photographs taken with my phone camera, I use the spontaneous nature of watercolor to abstract the specific. This has helped me ponder the stations of the cross, and the journey of our own lives."

These tips will be posted at the food pantry in multiple languages.

5 THINGS TO CONSIDER WHEN EXPERIENCING HATE:
- Safety First: Trust your instincts and assess your surroundings. If you feel unsafe and you are able to, leave the area.

- Stay Calm: Take a deep breath, limit eye-contact, and maintain neutral body language.

- Speak Out (If you can do so safely): In a calm and firm voice establish physical boundaries, and denounce their behavior and comments.

- Seek Immediate Support: Ask bystanders for support or intervention.

- Seek Emotional Support: Once you feel safe, take time to recover and reach out to someone to talk about what happened. Remember this is not your fault, and you are not alone.
