Read more about Jilleen Liao (ZSF, '98) and her story of founding her company, "Onto NYC." #zionSFalumni #zionSFschool #zionSF

Jilleen Liao was born in Taiwan, raised in San Francisco, and has lived and worked in New York City for over a decade. Liao’s initial fascination with footwear began around middle school when girls would wear basketball shoes too big for them but also canvas platform sneakers from Claire’s; it amazed her that footwear could change up your entire aesthetic so quickly. Liao has also been involved in the skate and footwear industry for years, having been exposed to handmade shoe sample in 2007 at an internship with Rachel Comey. After ten years of working in domestic and international footwear manufacturing, Onto NYC became her next natural step. In 2015, Liao launched Onto as a way to make covetable products accessible to a wider audience.

Onto is a premium footwear line based in New York City that draws inspiration from the downtown skate culture of the 1990’s. The name "Onto" was chosen to convey the label’s dedication to a progressive movement from within. The brand is rooted in the dynamism of our international community and focused on accessible, effortless style that can handle our everyday New York lives. The light hearted, youthful energy of the brand stems from Jilleen’s coming of age experiences immersed in the San Francisco skateboarding scene.

The footwear created for Onto is created using globally sourced, premium materials. The glazed leather is a full grain, aniline cow leather which is processed through a staking machine resulting in a softer hand feel. Treatment of the leather then allows it to keep its natural character and imparts an individual look to each pair of shoes. Much of the detail in the sneakers are focused on subtlety, for example in a special type of shoelace or the glaze treatment of the leather, making each pair feel handmade and unique.

Way to go, Mr. Clay!

[09/18/17]   Update on the 50oth Celebration! It turns out there was a typo in a bulletin printed in 1988 (where we got the information) and this year is Mr. Klein's 54th year in his teaching career and his 48th year at Zion - in any case, we will continue to proceed with the surprise celebration to honor him as a servant of the Lord in this wonderful place because we can't thank him enough for all that he has done. It will still be a special 500th anniversary celebration for the Reformation and we will still recognize Mr. Klein for all that he has done for the Zion community. It will TRULY be a surprise as we are sort of "in between" the 50th marker but would like to honor him with notes of appreciation anyhow. =o)

[09/14/17]   SHHH!!! It's a surprise!!! Did you know that 2017 marks Mr. Charles Klein's 50th year of ministry at Zion-SF? Help us celebrate and honor him by sending a card or writing a note of thanks in appreciation for his 50 years of ministry (he continues to help with our after school care program even in his retirement).

Cards and messages can be mailed/turned BY Wednesday, October 25 to:
Mrs. Janet Jung (CK)
495 - 9th Avenue
San Francisco, CA 94118

Handwritten letters are preferred, but messages can also be e-mailed to:
[email protected]

We would like to recognize him at the special all-school Reformation 500th anniversary service on Sunday, October 29 @ 11 am. Pastor will ask him to do a special Children's Message at the 11 am service to ensure he will be at that service since he normally attends the 8 am service. Join the entire church & school community and help us make him feel appreciated and join in on the fun!

Note: If you indicate "(CK)" on the envelope after "Janet Jung," we will NOT open it and simply add it to a special box of letters we will present to him from loved ones near and far.
