The Zaroastrian ceremony called The JAVJOTE celebrates the child’s initiation into the Sacred family. An important part of the ceremony involves a KUSTI or binding cord that represents a binding commitment to their creed. Each child stands in front of an elder who helps them hold the Kusti during the ceremony before being wrapped around their waste and to be worn as part of their traditional costume called a SUDREH.

An interesting panel discussion on Interfaith understanding during the COVID-19 pandemic. From representatives of Muslim, Jewish and Christian Faiths and moderated by Michael G. Pappas from the San Francisco Interfaith Council. I brought up the question of the role of children and young people of diffrent Faiths on this issue. All panelists contributed interesting feedback on the subject.

Live Ramadan services continue live via Facebook from the LIGHTHOUSE MOSQUE in Oakland.
Like many Faiths the Internet is being used to bring services to followers.
As we come into the month of Ramadan, the most important observance by the Islam Faith, numerous mosques are utilizing social media and technology to reach out to their followers at their homes, including the Lighthouse Mosque in Oakland, the Khalil Center in San Francisco and the Muslim Community Center, also in San Francisco. Live stream videos of their services can be found on their pages.
Children of different Faiths gathered online to offer prayers for a world suffering from COVID-19. Spiritual leaders provided some insight and support.

Muslim children prepare to celebrate Ramadan with their families and friends. Beginning on April 23 and ending on May 23, Ramadan is a month-long time of spiritual reflection, self-improvement, and heightened devotion and worship as part of Islam Faith. This year COVID-19 will have an impact on gatherings but the spirit of Allah will bring all hearts together.

Meet RACHAEL, The Tenth KIDSINHAND Doll. She represents the Reformed Jewish Faith.
She’s dressed up to take part in her Synagogue’s Seder, a ceremonial meal that takes place on the first and/or second evening of Passover. She wears the Traditional “Tallit” or Prayer Shawl which she wears around her shoulders. If she’s involved in lighting the Seder Candles or reading the Torah, she will wear the shawl over her head as a sign of devoutnes.
Tonight is the 15th Shaban, a Blessed night in the Islam Faith. Also known as the night of forgiveness. A great night where Allah forgives many, dua (prayers of supplication) is accepted and suffering is relieved.
Tonight’s Qiyaam, or evening prayers, is followed by fasting tomorrow morning.
A Jewish EMT faces North toward Jerusalem and a Muslim EMT faces South towards Mecca as they pause and pray in the middle of the day of fighting for the lives of those infected with THE Covid-19 Virus. A perfect example of cooperation between different Faiths.

The SIKH’s Sacred Costume is made up of 5 important elements, all starting with the letter “K”:
1. KESH (Uncut Hair), 2. KARA (a steel bracelet), 3. KANGA (a wooden hair comb), 4. KACCHA (cotton underwear), and KIRPAN (steel sword, which is the most treasured and iconic symbol of the Sikh’s history of self-defense).
Basic tips for treating others with respect and kindness. Geared for young children but very appropriate for us adults who forget to be nice to the people we come in contact with. It’s positive tips on good behavior can be applied to KIDSINHAND’s philosophy of harmony between kids of different Faiths.

Pictures from the 6th Annual V-Star Change the World Rally held in Thailand. 1,000,000 children participated. The V-STAR unity day has become an event that attracts more than a hundred thousand school children annually from every province and corner throughout Thailand who had to satisfied moral-standard requirements before they can converge at their destination – Wat Phra Dhammakaya. On this day, fun activities are presented to encourage interaction and stimulate exchange of ideas amongst domestic and international V-Star students. The students also take part in an ethic quiz to help assess moral standard level of today’s youth, explore the world’s largest exhibition on the Buddha’s life story, and experience the stunning 3D movie on heaven and hell. In addition, outstanding students will be awarded scholarship funds sponsored by kind-hearted adults who recognize the importance of cultivating academically bright students and wholesome citizens for society.

Children from each Faith start at an early age to learn by reading the Holy Book that teaches them to understand its background and important principles.
