PROGRESSIVE BERKELEY CHURCH SEEKS ¾ TIME WORSHIP /PASTORAL MINISTER

Northbrae Community Church is seeking a new worship/pastoral minister to collaborate with our welcoming congregation and large, thriving community center. Our 106-year-old non-denominational church, without creeds or doctrines, has included members of all faiths throughout its long history. We also serve the surrounding area with a wide variety of supportive programs, averaging about 500 community members each week, many of whom could be described as spiritual but not religious. We invite you to apply for this opportunity to serve our congregation and community in an extraordinary way. Seehttps://www.northbrae.org/uploads/2/9/8/0/29804993/ministerpacket.pdf for information, job description and application or contact the church at [email protected] with “Minister Search” in the subject line.

MIKO PELED: Trump and the Prospects for Peace -
What is Next for Palestine/Israel ?

Presentation by the son of an Israeli General who believes that, for the good of everyone, the separation should end and be replaced by a secular democracy where Israelis and Palestinian live as equals in their shared homeland.

Location: Our Saviors Lutheran Church - Sanctuary -
1035 Carol Lane - Lafayette, CA 94549

Friday Oct 6th 2017
6 to 7 pm reception, refreshments provided
7 to 9 pm presentation and Q & A
9 pm book signing, mingling

Cost: $10 in advance, $15 at the door; STUDENTS FREE.

About This Event:
The indecisiveness and ignorance of the Trump administration and the bluntness of the Netanyahu government have changed the discussion on Palestine/Israel. No more Two State Solution, but rather a Single state between the River Jordan and the Mediterranean Sea. The question now is this: Will it be a democracy with equal rights or an Apartheid State?

Miko Peled is an Israeli-born writer an activist. Born to a prominent Zionist family which includes a grandfather who was a signor of the Israeli declaration of independence and a father who was a general in the Israeli army. After a 30-year-career in teaching martial arts in California, Miko found himself confronted with the Israeli Palestinian issue in all of its horror: His 13-year-old niece was killed by Palestinians in a su***de attack in Jerusalem.
This brought about a major shift that Miko describes in his 2012 memoir (updated in 2016), "The Generals Son, Journey of an Israeli in Palestine."

This Memorial Day we remember and honor the service of Lieutenant Colonel Charles Benjamin Leinbach. The interior walls of the Presidio Chapel honor those who have served our nation in war and peace. One of the memorial plaques honors Lieutenant Colonel Charles Benjamin Leinbach (1897 - 1945). He started his Army service in World War I and made the Army his career. He was stationed at Fort Stotsenburg in the Philippines in January 1940. He fought the Japanese on Bataan, earning a citation for the Silver Star, and was captured as a prisoner of war. He was housed in a prisoner of war camp in Cabanatuan, Luzon along with 3,000 American POWs. He lived as a prisoner of war for over 975 days. He was killed aboard the prisoner transport ship "Enoura Maru" when it was bombed by American planes on January 9, 1945. The Japanese ship had no markings indicating it was transporting POWs. His death was confirmed by the International Commission of the Red Cross. His body was located in a mass grave in the spring of 1946 in a Formosan (Taiwan) cemetery. His remains were positively identified and returned to the United States. His final internment was at the San Francisco National Cemetery on September 30, 1948 with funeral services held at the Presidio Chapel.

URI North America has been witnessing the wave of violence and challenging moments that have impacted minority communities across North America. The wave of mass shootings and the recent verdict of Derek Chauvin, the police offer that killed George Floyd, invites us to reflect more deeply on the needs of Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) while creating a precedent for reform in our systems of justice and accountability.

For this reason, we are opening a Sacred Safe Space for Cooperation Circles on Thursday, April 29th, at 6 PM Pacific/9 PM Eastern to listen, learn, and lend support to one another. We will be hearing from BIPOC CC members about their thoughts and advice on working for racial justice and alliance building between communities.

To register for this gathering, please visit the following link: http://bit.ly/sacredsafespace

We hope you'll invite other CC members and people in your network to be a part of this gathering.
