Sophia in Trinity

PLEASE NOTE THAT WE HAVE MOVED TO ST. CYPRIAN'S EPISCOPAL CHURCH at 2097 Turk St., in San Francisco, as of Oct. 25, 2014. We meet for a Roman Catholic liturgy at St.

Cyprian's Episcopal Church in San Francisco (2097 Turk St.), on the 2nd and 4th Saturdays of every month at 10:00 a.m.

Operating as usual

[03/14/20]   Just a note to say that Sophia services will not be held for the rest of March and perhaps longer than that because of the on-going COVID-19 situation. In the meantime, here's a poem from a friend that seems appropriate:

What if you thought of it
as the Jews consider the Sabbath—
the most sacred of times?
Cease from travel.
Cease from buying and selling.
Give up, just for now,
on trying to make the world
different than it is.
Sing. Pray. Touch only those
to whom you commit your life.
Center down.

And when your body has become still,
reach out with your heart.
Know that we are connected
in ways that are terrifying and beautiful.
(You could hardly deny it now.)
Know that our lives
are in one another’s hands.
(Surely, that has come clear.)
Do not reach out your hands.
Reach out your heart.
Reach out your words.
Reach out all the tendrils
of compassion that move, invisibly,
where we cannot touch.

Promise this world your love--
for better or for worse,
in sickness and in health,
so long as we all shall live.

Preparing the table for our Lenten Liturgy last Saturday

[12/17/15]   The next Sophia Liturgy will be on Saturday, January 9th, at 10 a.m. We will NOT gather on the Saturday after Christmas (December 26th), since many of our members have other holiday plans. A blessed Christmas and New Years to all.

After the excitement of the Papal visit and the demonstrations, we're back to normal at our usual Liturgy.

Our womenpriests were in Washington for the Pope's visit. Here are a few pictures, including our own Maria Eitz (in the last 2 photos)

Women battle to become Roman Catholic priests

Here is a video on the ordination to the diaconate of our own Mary Alice Nolan.

Ironically the best coverage was on the Al Jazeera network. Lisa Bernard has the story of a group of women who aim to make history in the Catholic church

The Spiritual Edge: A woman takes on the Church by becoming a priest
By Judy Silber

On Feb. 9, 2015, Maria and other Sophia members were interviewed as part of the Spiritual Edge program on KALW FM (NPR station in San Francisco). Here is a link to a recording of the program and a transcript:

Our Christmas Eucharist was celebrated with lots of light, and our agape meal afterwards had lots of good things to eat. A blessed New Year to all.

Here are a couple of group photos taken in St. Cyprian's after our Liturgy on December 13th. We are very happy with our new home.
