We are taking our Church Intensive training on the road! We will be hosting one day trainings in the locations listed (with hopefully more to come). The Church Intensive is an invitation to join a couple of our local We Are Church elders in taking a fresh look at the Scriptures and asking God what He wants of the local church.

We will spend time casting vision and sharing convictions, as well as talking structure and creating space for questions. It is our prayer that God will use this experience to reignite your hope and passion for His Bride, and give you practical guidance in how to live out the high calling of Scripture.

Go to https://www.churchintensive.com/church-intensive-labs to apply.

[03/16/21]   "Dietrich Bonhoeffer in Life Together titled one of his chapters 'The Day Together' and the following chapter 'The Day Alone.' Both are essential for spiritual success. He writes, 'Let him who cannot be alone beware of community... Let him who is not in community beware of being alone... Each by itself has profound pitfalls and perils.'" - Richard Foster, Celebration of Discipline, page 97

[03/09/21]   House church is not the point. Moving from a large building to a living room doesn't do much in and of itself. For us, re-thinking church has much more to do with leadership development, expecting "average" believers to be used by God in powerful ways, expecting everyone to be discipled and make disciples, turning away from consumeristic traps to draw and keep people, and ultimately putting obedience to God's commands as the measure of success rather than numbers.

Letters to the Church, p.41

[03/05/21]   So often leaders in the church feel pressure to be stronger, smarter, more gifted, and more holy than they actually are. Of course we all want to be growing in these areas, but the issue is that many leaders feel as though they can't be real and honest with the community they lead.

What does it mean for leaders in the church that God's "power is made perfect in weakness"? Paul chose to boast about his "weaknesses, so that Christ's power" would rest on him (2 Cor 12:9).

As leaders, we must remember that our church needs God's power more than ours. They need to depend on God more than on us. Let us live in such a way where we depend on Christ's power to rest on us.

[01/13/21]   One of the beautiful things about the church is that it can adapt to the culture it finds itself in. Style of music, type of teaching, place of gathering, etc. are all things that are on the table. Yet unfortunately we have so often dogmatically held to a certain way of doing things. We push our traditions as though they were commanded by God. We encourage church leadership teams to have serious, lengthy conversations around what God has actually commanded of the church, and what are things that we need to hold more loosely. Out of this will come a lot of freedom to change and adapt to the needs and culture around us.

[01/05/21]   To have "20/20" vision implies good perception, clarity of sight. Isn't it interesting that the year 2020 has provided us with a much more sober, honest, clear look at life on Earth? There is a consensus around the idea that "things aren't right" and we are hopeful for things to be fixed. While the majority are simply ready to put 2020 out of their memories, we must press into these feelings and realize that our hope is not in COVID going away, but rather in Jesus returning. Our hope is not in life getting back to normal here, it's in us experiencing true life in Him. Our hope is not in our government or humanity fixing the problems plaguing this world, it's in our God finally fixing everything and establishing His kingdom in fullness for all eternity! Let's be careful that we point people towards the true hope, not the false one.

[12/22/20]   According to Scripture, each born again believer in Jesus has a supernatural, amazing gifting from the Holy Spirit that is meant to be used in beautifully dynamic ways to build up the church. Can you imagine each believer in your local church context operating powerfully in their gifting? What sort of impact would that have on the body? On our communities? On the world?

[12/15/20]   One of the clear themes of Revelation is the despair of the world as things get worse and worse, and the contrast of God's people constantly praising Him in the midst of it all. As we find ourselves in strange times with much despair, anger, fear, and chaos, let's join with the various chorus' we see in Revelation crying out how worthy of praise our God is!

[12/11/20]   Many of us have finally seen friends and family after months apart only to notice they may have gained a few... dozen pounds. The temptation to relax in not just physical wellness, but also spiritual wellness, is dangerously high this year. Think of 1 Timothy 4:8: "For physical training is of some value, but godliness has value for all things, holding promise for both the present life and the life to come."

It's important for us to honor God with our physical bodies and steward them well, but it's even more important that we don't allow our spiritual muscles to atrophy in this season. We must be sure to continue to intentionally flex our muscles of love, service, selflessness, and "others" focus. Press into deep relationships however you can. Look for opportunities to be generous with your time and money. If we aren't careful we can slip into unhealthy rhythms and come out at the end of this pandemic more self focused and having lost much of our desire to love and sacrifice for others. Lord Jesus please help us to resolve to fight against this tendency in each of our hearts!

[12/10/20]   One of the greatest desires within us is for family. God has intentionally designed us in such a beautiful way to need family. We often think of family purely in a biological way, but Jesus taught that His family is those who do God's will (Mark 3:35). For those of us who have been born of Him, we have been adopted into a new family. This new family expresses itself through the local church. We must catch the vision for the local church as a family rather than a service (a family even more significant than our biological family). There is a plague of loneliness and isolation in our culture, and we must have loving church families ready to "adopt" people in as they come to faith in Jesus to help nurture them in the faith.
