* A getting-to-know-vous better activity from St. Paul's UCC Rio Rancho
In praying for the nation, I'm reminded of a song by the Youngbloods, "Get Together"....Come on people now
Smile on your brother
Everybody get together
Try to love one another
Right now...
I know this sounds overly simple, but you can't go wrong with love over hate...💓
This is a great place for true spiritual connection.
My Sunday takeaway. Pastor Jocelyn worked with the theme of honoring creations. The reading for today came from Julian of Norwich's Showings. “All that God loves lasts because God loves it.”

Everything will continue because God loves it. Thinking on Earth Day and how things have slowed down because of shelter in place and quarantining, Pastor Jocelyn recognizes how quickly the earth has healed. Pollution has cleared so people in China could see the night sky for the first time in years, canals in Florence have cleared enough you can see jelly fish, sea turtles are able to come ashore in droves now the beaches are empty. The pollution has gone because that is not of God. What is of God is coming back to its fullness.

What if we identified the pollutions in our lives (e.g. sugar, caffeine, alcohol, gluten, etc.) and how our bodies would come to wholeness again without them, without the polluting anxieties being created by the media. Thanks to quarantining, she hears the birds, people walking, children playing, the wind. This is the noise that will continue because God loves it.

She invited us to pay attention to what Mother Nature is reflecting back to us and ask "What do I need to release so I can hear my soul more clearly and be aligned with God’s love? What is God calling upon me to let go of in my life?"

For me it's busyness. With all this time on my hands I've gotten busy instead of slowing down to smell the roses.
An Easter gem. "For us to get to the empty tomb we must empty our hearts." – Rev. Jocelyn Emerson St. Paul’s UCC Rio Rancho NM. Share something from Pastor Jocelyn's message that touched you.
When I was a child my mother worked for the Salvation Army in Jamaica Queens. I made a Sunday School craft that when opened one way it showed Jesus laid out in the tomb, when opened another way it showed the tomb was empty. The impression that empty tomb made on me has stayed with me to this day.
Today, lets look at what happens to our cultures and societies when our leaders mask personal responsibility. Our leader must be transparent and stand strongly in integrity. King Odin of Asgard illustrates the destruction that follows when leaders are not transparent.
Today I am sharing the spiritual discipline of the Prayer of Confession -- one method to stepping onto the path of personal and communal responsibility.
Why do the hard work of personal responsibility? Because not only does it lead to a transformational experience of redemption, but also deep freedom within life's challenges.
Personal responsibility invites us to run toward our problems, to face them with courage, authenticity and integrity -- to stand in our Power. This allows us to step back, reassess, seek the help we need, and more; so that as we face our problems, we do so successfully.
Today I am reflecting upon #Loki from #ThorDarkWorld -- contemplating on what happens when we consistently abdicate responsibility. How does that affect our soul? those around us?
Today's blog reflects upon how personal responsibility places us on the path to redemption.

#LentenJourney, Day 40

You have made it through another Lenten Journey and arrived at Palm Sunday! It is time to celebrate!!!

Sing the kids’ song “He’s Got the Whole World in His Hands” but switch the pronouns to feminine ones: “She’s Got the Whole World in Her Hands.” Notice how it feels to use a feminine pronoun for God.

#LentenJourney, Day 38:

Good Friday

Today is a day of somber prayer. Today we remember the day that Jesus died on the Cross. He sacrificed his life for justice for his people. He showed us what sacrificial love is all about.

In my life, I have a Good Friday ritual. It is a day where I spend prayerfully reflecting upon what I need to let die within myself so that on Easter I can be born anew! We all have something in our lives, in our hearts, that is in the way of fully aligning ourselves with God.

Write on a piece of paper what comes forth for you this day. Bury it or burn it. Let it go from your life so that you can be resurrected on Easter Sunday.

What is your favorite version of the Lord’s Prayer? Spend some time googling different versions. There are so many!

I love the Inclusive Language Lord’s Prayer, the Native American, the New Zealand Book of Prayer, and Parker Palmer’s translations. Each translation offers a different way into this powerful prayer.

Pick a version that you do not normally use. Spend the day reflecting upon it.

Due to COVID, there are so many more people who in financial trouble, who do not have enough money to buy groceries, pay rent, and more. Today, if you are able, buy (or collect from your pantry) a bag of groceries and drop it off at Storehouse West or your local food shelf.

#LentenJourney, Day 29:

Remember that children’s rhyme: “Sticks and stones may break my bones but words will never hurt me?”

I have found that to be totally wrong! Words have a huge impact on our lives.

Today, pay attention to the words in your life: the words you use, the words you read, the words that decorate the space you live in.

Recycle books and words that are abusive and toxic. Donate books that no longer speak to you and are not toxic or abusive, so another can read them.

Be conscious of using words that uplift, words that encourage, words that empower, words that create justice this day.

Notice, without judgement, when your words hurt others and yourself. Notice, without judgement, when your words empower others and yourself.

May we spread God’s Love today through our words, as well as our actions.

#LentenJourney, Day 28:

Generosity is an important spiritual practice. It is hard to cultivate when we find ourselves in a place of experiencing scarcity. What I have noticed about generosity is that it’s gift is to help us shift from that place of scarcity to an experience of abundance! It is miraculous how generosity does that.

It does not take much. Just $5 a month to a non-profit you desire to support. Chose a non-profit today and sign up to be a monthly supporter for $5 or more dollars.

#LentenJourney, Day 27:

This has been a hard year. Covid has created a deep well of grief in our society, in our hearts. The grave injustice of racism has blatantly shown its ugliness. Violence and divisiveness have been part of public discourse.

Things are shifting now, but those experiences are still in us. We need to express our feelings, to pray them.

Today, express those feelings in a Lament. Write a lament for injustice you or people you love have experienced, modeled on the Psalms of Lament. Bury that piece of paper at the base of a tree or in a garden so that your grief and lament can nourish the soil of a living thing.

For me mornings are my favorite time out in nature. I love to watch the sunrise, hear the birds awake, be in the stillness of the morning.

It is nice to switch things up. Today, try the evening. Go outside in the evening and watch the sunset. Notice how all God’s Creation prepares itself for the coming of night.

Breathe. Rest. Relax. Prepare yourself for the night.

#LentenJourney, Day 24:

There are always tasks that we need help with. We were taught to be independent and to do things ourselves. We were taught to help others. Many of us were not taught to ask for help when we need it. It is empowering to ask for help and get the task done! Together with another, many difficult tasks become lighter.

So ask for help today.

If you do not have anything you need help with, ask someone you know who does have something that they need help with if you can help them.

Afterwards, notice what happened in the doing of the task together. Notice how it felt to receive help and companionship. Offer a prayer of gratitude for your friend who helped you and for the completion of a task that needed doing!

We all keep things to our selves. We keep secrets. Those secrets can eat at our souls. Today, tell someone you trust a Truth you have been holding back.

Afterwards, spend time in silent prayer. Notice how sharing that Truth shifted your heart. Notice what happened in its release. Notice how it feels to be companioned by a trusted friend.
