I'll definitely be at the RCC event. * Our Pastor will be on Ken Plum's program, Virginia Report. Job Opening: Seeking interested, motivated and experienced individual to run a laptop and projector displaying multiple PowerPoint presentations during church services in Reston. The services are on Sunday mornings from 11:00 to approximately 12:30, so the weekly schedule will be 10:00am to 1:00pm. Home - Herndon Cares

A message from K. Scarry, the coordinator of Herndon Cares (HerndonCares.org). Please read, and consider making a donation today. Thanks to all who have been supporting this program.

Hello faith + community leaders!

I hope this email finds you well. I am so, so grateful for your outpouring of support for Herndon Cares. What a gift it is.

I wanted to give you a quick update:

To date: we have served just short of 8,000 meals, and funneled almost $50,000 dollars back into the Herndon/Reston Area. We have also worked with restaurants on their own outreach, and have helped them bring meals to families on our list on their own. We have built relationships with people across our community- business owners, volunteers, leaders, neighbors. We've had volunteers make masks that we've distributed with meals. We have 150+ volunteers signed up to be part of this work- and I am so excited to see what we might continue to do together.

We have always said that Herndon Cares would be a triage of sorts: a response to help restaurants and our neighbors have income + food in the immediate, acute pain of COVID-19. Our plan from the start has been to think of this in phases: and phase one, as it currently stands, will exist through June 10- which was the stay at home order end date in Virginia at it's announcing.

We are having conversations over the next week with restaurant owners + meal recipients about their needs moving forward, and plan to pivot accordingly. You + our volunteers will be the first to know about our plans for phase 2- and I look forward to continuing to work alongside you to take good care of our community.

In the meantime, we are not quite where we need to be to afford the next two weeks of meals. It costs us about $9,000 dollars to feed about 1,300 each week (this varies a bit based on the restaurants we use). You have all stood with us financially, and for that, I give great thanks. We have a few feelers out to potential big donors, but I'm also asking you to help.

Would you be willing to reach out to your networks and invite them to be part of this work with us by making a donation? Or, perhaps, would you post this on your social media?

It would be remiss of me to not close with this: I trust your wisdom. I know many of you have been reaching out and sharing so much about Herndon Cares as well as other Herndon resources- and so please, do not push if it doesn't feel right. I hear these concerns from you all as we seek to take care of our people and also serve the larger community. I wanted to give you this update, and, if you have capacity, to ask you to share it as well.

grateful is an understatement.

I am hopeful for what's to come.

Warmly,
K Scarry

General information

Our Church is an inclusive Christian community whose worship, communion, and fellowship are open to all without restriction to gender, nationality, race, ethnicity, and sexual orientation. We affirm that all have access to the love of Christ and service to God. We practice in the Baptist tradition, the core principles of which are: Soul Freedom - The individual is responsible to none except God, is totally competent to stand before God, and is capable of discerning meaning and action in life and practice under the direct inspiration of the Spirit of God and Holy Scripture. Bible Freedom - The Bible is our authority in matters of faith and practice and is to be interpreted in its entirety, using the best scholarship and the discernment of the community. Church Freedom - We are autonomous and congregational in governance. Our practices, policies, associations, and ministries are set by the congregation under the guidance of the Holy Spirit and Holy Scripture. Religious Freedom - The Church and civil government are independent of each other (separation of church and state). We support a free Church and a free state, separate and individually responsible to God.
