Floris UMC and Restoration Reston are offering a pilgrimage to the Holy Land, October 23-November 1, 2019 with an optional Jordan extension November 1-5. Rev. Tom Berlin and Rev. Tim Ward will lead this spiritual journey to sites found in the Old and New Testaments of the Bible. Come see the roads where Jesus walked and the places that were pivotal to his life and ministry. Participants will take part in small group sessions prior to departure that will make the experience more meaningful. We are again partnering with Educational Opportunities, an agency that many churches use for this and other trips.

There will be a trip interest meeting this Monday, October 1, 7 p.m. at Floris UMC. If you would like to learn more about the trip and the details related to cost, itinerary and registration, please attend this meeting.

Who am I? It’s a question that people start asking when they are in middle school and often continues through the rest of our lives. In the Bible there is a man named Jacob. He spent most of his life in survival mode. He struggled from the time that he was born and faced challenges each step of the way. We will follow Jacob in his journey of self-discovery. When we learn to listen to the call of God and claim our abilities, we discover our identity in every new season of life.

This Sunday, September 30, immediately following the service, we will have a packaging event in the cafeteria. Stay after worship to package 125 backpack meals that will offer children in the community food when they are not in school. This is a great family event in which people of all ages can participate.

[09/13/18]   It was so good to see so many of you back in worship on Sunday. The picnic, while it had to be indoors, was a great time and I really enjoyed connecting with so many of you. Many thanks to Craig and Gabriella Currie from Root and Stem for providing so much of our picnic food. It was delicious as usual.

On Sunday, I shared an update on our Dream campaign. We have almost hit our first $100,000 in receipts. This is an amazing feat in just three months. I am so grateful for how generous you are being. As a result we are already able to distribute the first $12,000 to Forest Edge Elementary School to cover three full sets of classroom libraries. Kindergarten teachers were in tears as they received the news that they were getting enough books so that all of the kids in their classrooms could grow and learn. You are making such an impact on the students.

In addition, I mentioned that Forest Edge is still looking for mentors for kids in the school. Right now Restoration provides about 10 mentors and we had an additional 4 sign up on Sunday. Chuck Formeck shared a beautiful testimony about how mentoring has been transformative for him. If you are interested in finding out how a half hour a week of your time could change the life of a kid, let me know.

Also, we will be collecting supplies for the South Lakes Pantry this Sunday. Please bring them with you to worship. As always, feminine hygiene products, shampoo, conditioner, deodorant and toothpaste are always items that other people don’t seem to offer as much.

This Sunday we will be giving Bibles to 3rd grade students in the church. I love to see their faces as they receive this gift. I hope you will join me on Sunday in encouraging these kids as they receive their very own Bibles. It’s a big deal to get the book that describes how much God loves each of them and each of us. Would you join me on Sunday in sharing in this joy with them?

See you Sunday,

Tim

Join us as we celebrate and encourage our children with God's word! Every year at Restoration Reston Church, we share God's love with our children. We invite you to join us Sunday, September 16, during the 10 a.m. worship service for a special presentation of Bibles. The Bible presented to each child is a free gift.

Have the battle lines been drawn? Pastor Tim shared today in worship that the ONLY ketchup is Heinz.... what’s your ketchup of choice?

Don't forget! You're invited to the Restoration Picnic, immediately following worship Sunday, September 9 at Lake Fairfax Park, Canopy G. Come and gather with friends and meet new people too! We'll provide the main dish and drinks. Please bring a side dish to share. This is a fun-filled event for all ages!

Life Group Launch | Restoration Church

Restoration Family,

This week has been all about community for me. I have spent the last week in Livingston, MT with a group of pastors from VA. We have spent time exploring Yellowstone and the Grand Tetons. We went to a wonderful church in Pine Creek near the camp where we are staying in the middle of the mountains. Our focus for this trip has been to study creation, think about the changes that are happening and have happened with the wolves in Yellowstone, and think about the future of the UMC together with other pastors. We have prayed together, worshiped together, hiked together and soaked in the beauty of creation together. This has been a good week for my soul and given me more hope for the future of the Church.

I have missed my community in Reston. I missed being with the folks of Restoration on Sunday and am grateful to Rev. Ashley Allen for preaching on Sunday. I am really looking forward to being back with you on Sunday. I’m grateful to continue our worship series called Be the Change where we are talking about ways that we can engage others in real relationship and real conversation in the midst of challenging times. Also, I hope that you will join me and my family for our picnic at Lake Fairfax directly following worship. Bring a side to share and a friend. We hope to have a great crew to kick off a new Fall together.

Finally, I know many people have already signed up for Life Groups. Several of our groups will start this week. I hope that you will take a look at the different groups at our website and sign up today. I’m looking forward to the groups that I am participating in.

Flying home Saturday. See you Sunday.

Tim

Life Groups are smaller groups within the Restoration Reston community that allow people to get to know one another and communicate more than they otherwise can at a worship service. Being part of a Life Group can be one of the most transformative pieces of the Christian life.
