Sunday Morning Worship at 10:30 a.m. Sunday School and Adult Education Electives at 9:00 a.m.

ST. PAUL'S worship focuses on expository preaching (i.e. explaining and applying a particular passage of Scripture where the point of the text becomes the point of the sermon); vibrant, yet classically-styled music with choir and instrumentalists; and historic liturgical prayers, readings and responses.

Mission: ST. PAUL’S mission is to provide historically rich and joyful worship that nurtures delight in God; to equip God’s people with the knowledge of His Word through vibrant preaching and teaching; to encourage spiritual growth in community; and to empower all for a life of worship in which love for God invigorates Christian mission to neighbors both near and far.

Social distancing, hand sanitizer, and masks, did not deter our wonderful worship experience this morning. It was so good to be back!

We are all missing our St. Paul’s family during this challenging time, especially Anna. But she has a solution: She built her own St. Paul’s sanctuary, and Barbie and all of her friends made it to worship!

Now, let me share a brief pastoral word of encouragement. We need to make every effort to prepare our hearts and our homes for worship this Sunday. Don’t wait until the worship service begins at 10:30 a.m. Think things through in advance. Fathers and mothers, please consider how to help your children participate. Lead them in worship. We face many distractions on an ordinary Lord’s Day, but this Sunday is likely to be especially distracting if we do not take time to prepare.

Come, let us return to the Lord;
for he has torn us, that he may heal us;
he has struck us down, and he will bind us up.
After two days he will revive us;
on the third day he will raise us up,
that we may live before him.
Let us know; let us press on to know the Lord;
his going out is sure as the dawn;
he will come to us as the showers,
as the spring rains that water the earth. (Hosea 6:1-3)

In Christ,
Pastor Justin

A VIRTUAL FAREWELL FOR THE HARDWIGS

Dear brothers and sisters,

As most of you know, we had planned to hold a farewell reception for Patrick, Bethany, and Evelyn Hardwig after the worship service this Sunday. Unfortunately, however, with the Coronavirus changing all our plans, we are now not able to give the Hardwigs a proper send-off, complete with good food and lots of big hugs. But what we can do is take a moment to pray for the Hardwigs who left this morning--on Bethany's birthday!--to begin their daunting, cross-country trip to serve New Song Presbyterian Church in Salt Lake City, Utah.

You may have heard that, in addition to the global health crisis that we are all facing, Salt Lake City was hit with a magnitude 5.7 earthquake yesterday morning. So, this really is a time when we need to lift up the Hardwigs and their new church family to the Lord in prayer. Would you please join me in doing that whenever you are able to read this?

Dear Lord, we praise you for Patrick, Bethany, and Evelyn, and for all the ways that you have blessed us through them. Thank you for the indelible mark that they have left on our life together here at St. Paul's. And please protect them as they travel cross country. We humbly ask that you would not only bless them, keep them, and make your face to shine upon them but that you would also use them to bless New Song Presbyterian Church as you have already used them to bless us for the glory of your Son, our Lord, Jesus Christ. Amen.

This is a very difficult way to have to say good-bye, but we trust the Lord has a good plan in all of it. Let's continue to praise God and pray for the Hardwigs as he leads them into this new season of ministry.

In Christ,
Pastor Justin

[03/17/20]   Such an uplifting prayer from Pastor Justin on Sunday. Please read to the end and be encouraged. Our God Reigns!

A prayer for those facing the Coronavirus Pandemic on Sunday, March 15, 2020:

Our Father in heaven, as the world faces a global health crisis, we praise and adore you because you reign for us in your crucified and risen Son, our Lord Jesus Christ, who not only “took our illnesses and bore our diseases” (Matthew 8:17), but also “abolished death and brought life and immortality to light through the gospel” (2 Timothy 1:10).

O Lord, you reign!

Even though we walk through the valley of the shadow of death…

O Lord, you reign!

You command us not to be anxious about anything, but in
everything — by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving — to make our requests known to you (Philippians 4:6).

O Lord, you reign!

We thank you for Jesus who, during his earthly ministry, healed so many people that “all who had disease pressed around him to touch him” (Mark 3:10)

O Lord, you reign!

And we come before you now with thanksgiving, asking for the healing hand of your Son, our great Physician, the Lord Jesus, to touch us and our world today.

O Lord, you reign!

Have mercy upon us and bring this virus to an end.

O Lord, you reign!

Have mercy upon the 150 thousand plus individuals who have been infected by the virus.

O Lord, you reign!

Have mercy upon us and comfort the families of the nearly 6,000 fatalities that have occurred.

O Lord, you reign!

Help us to honor the elderly and to protect the most vulnerable from infection.

O Lord, you reign!

We pray for all people, for kings and all who are in high positions, that you would give the authorities wisdom and discernment to make wise decisions.

O Lord, you reign!

We pray for the leaders and the peoples of countries that have been hardest hit. Have mercy on the people of China, Iran, Japan, South Korea, Italy, France, Spain and those in the path of this virus.

O Lord, you reign!

We pray for the World Health Organization, the Center for Disease Control, doctors, nurses, and healthcare professionals the world over.

O Lord, you reign!

We pray for our missionaries in dangerous areas where there have been large outbreaks.

O Lord, you reign!

Have mercy upon us and help us as your people to seize this moment of crisis to be salt and light, to do justice, to love kindness, and to walk humbly, to be obedient to the Great Commission, and to seek first you kingdom.

O Lord, you reign!

Lead us not into temptation and deliver us from the fear (which makes too much of this virus) and foolishness (which makes too little of it).

O Lord, you reign!

Lead us not into temptation and deliver us from the even greater sickness of our sin which has infected every single one of us and plagues our world.

O Lord, you reign!

Lead us not into temptation and deliver us from arrogant and irreverent babble, boasting, blame shifting, and slander that spreads like gangrene and plagues our sin-sick world.

O Lord, you reign!

We thank you because you forgive all our iniquity and you heal all our diseases (Psalm 103:2).

O Lord, you reign!

May your peace that surpasses all understanding guard our hearts and our thoughts in Christ Jesus for it is in his name that we pray. Amen.

The Session of St. Paul’s continues to monitor the developing situation with the Coronavirus. Taking into account the recommendations of our local authorities in Orange county, we have several updates to share with you regarding Sunday services for March 15, 2020.

Although we do plan to hold Sunday school (9:00 am) and morning worship (10:30 am), there will be no (1) nursery, (2) coffee service, or (3) passing of the offering plate tomorrow morning. The ushers will collect the offering at the back of the sanctuary. Also, our Evensong service (including the Lord’s Supper) has been canceled.

If you or anyone in your family is sick, if you are in a high-risk group (e.g., elderly, compromised immune system etc.), or if you decide not to attend for some other reason, we encourage you to stay home and to participate in worship online.
An electronic copy of our liturgy will be sent out via email today. There are two ways that you can stream our service on Sunday: 1) by accessing the St. Paul’s website (www.stpaulpca.org) and, from the homepage, click on the “Listen to Our Live Service Now!” link pictured below:

Please note, the “Listen to Our Live Service Now!” link will only appear on the website beginning at about 10:00 am on Sunday morning. Depending on when you join the stream, you may hear silence, people talking, or congregational worship. 2) The second way for you to access the live stream of the service is to go directly to this website (http://97.68.57.62:88/) which, again, will begin working at 10:00 am on Sunday morning.

Even as we take these responsible precautions to protect public health, let’s not forget that God is sovereign. He controls this situation and we can take great comfort in knowing he reigns.

What a beautiful day for our church cleanup and community service workday! We raked, mowed, weeded, mulched, planted flowers, pressure washed, trimmed bushes, trimmed trees, disinfected rooms, replenished worship supplies, and much more! It was a great time of serving our neighbors and beautifying our church.
