Mercy Drive Ministries

This is Mercy Drive Ministries — a non-profit organization that focuses on the practical needs of the Mercy Drive Community — education, life skills, and spiritual guidance.

Mercy Drive Ministries, Inc.(MDM) was formed to serve as the community outreach arm of Heart of Mercy Community Church, serving the Mercy Drive Community of Orlando, Florida. While many people in the greater Orlando area see Mercy Drive as "Murder Drive" and Pine Hills as "Crime Hills," Mercy Dive Ministries, Inc. dares to envision a community of healthy, whole, productive and responsible citizens. We believe our vision will become reality when the Church extends its hand to reach those individuals who have become marginalized by society. Lasting change comes from within a person's heart, as hope and new life are restored. In turn, the transformation of the community is a natural result of changed hearts and a new outlook on life.

Mission: Our mission at MDM is to effect a positive long term change in our community by addressing social issues including cultural bondage, racial barriers, and complacency.

#MercyDriveMovement is here..

Our Vision - Education in Mercy Drive

A strong education is key to leading a self-sustaining life. However, many kids on Mercy Drive lack access to high-quality education programs. This leaves them falling behind in school and eventually being unable to face the challenges that life throws at them.

So we started an after school program that helped them not only prepare for elementary school, but to exceed all expectations. It's these resources that make lasting change in our community. And we're just getting started.

Orlando is simultaneously one of the fastest-growing cities and one of the worst in affordable housing. Despite the conversation, no one is actually talking about the most important factor in the issue: the people affected. Read our latest article and join the dialogue.

Our Approach to Lasting Change - Mercy Drive Ministries

It's about giving a hand up, not a hand out. We believe that in order to make lasting change in our community, we need to help people help themselves. This becomes possible when we provide the resources and opportunities for sustainability — education, life skills, and spiritual guidance.

At Mercy Drive Ministries, each one of our programs focuses on these pillars. But we need your help.

Martin Luther King, Jr., "What Is Your Life's Blueprint?"

We all know what Martin Luther King Jr. stood for, but how many of us actually use this day to really explore what he taught? Much of his wisdom is digitally preserved, just a Google search away. So let’s honor him in a deeper way — through shared discussion.

Comment with your favorite quote, video, or a bit of wisdom from MLK and tell us how you apply it to your life today. Tag 3 friends and invite them to do the same.

This video, in particular, is one of our favorites. It reminds us that we always have the power, and the responsibility, to be excellent every single day.

Mercy Drive in 2020

As downtown Orlando continues to expand, the current residents continue to get relocated. That means hundreds of families will pour into The Mercy Drive Corridor. Thankfully, we're finally gaining the resources and capacity to make a difference as people come into our community.

Change is inevitable. We're here to make sure the change that happens is always positive and in service to the needs that our people face.

When they ask us about Mercy Drive, we don't tell them who we are. We tell them why we do it. It's about the people, and the possibility of changing their lives. Be it ten or ten thousand, our calling is to make the difference.

The task isn't always easy, but it's always possible. Hearts forever strong, it's our faith that fills us with hope and our journeys that make us unique. Dignity and empathy go a long way. In fact, we know this first hand. We're not a charity that's helping Mercy Drive.

We are Mercy Drive.

Get involved, support each other, set good examples - the building blocks for good things coming to Mercy Drive, and we're just getting started.

We're so excited to roll out our reimagined vision for our ministry and community. Mercy Drive is our Jerusalem and we've revamped our mission in the pursuit for positive change. #ChangeWithUs

God has been doing some amazing things in the ministry so far this the overall vision tarries, we are encouraged by what has already happened. We know that God does everything in His timing, and we trust Him completely to come through. He's on time all the time!

Our kids are finishing STRONG this year! Almost all of them brought their grades up and made Honor Roll. Many of them have also grown spiritually! We can't be more proud of our Achievers! There are only 2 more days until we break for summer and officially start to MISS them! 😭

This morning, we received a text message with this photo...Ki'won is a first grader and has one of the brightest personalities at the Achiever's Club. His desire to do well both in and out of school has grown exponentially this year. Here he is seen with 2nd grade math work, something he was proud of and wanted us to see, and PROUD we are! Great job Ki'won! 😎

We are at the Sight Word Spelling Bee supporting our Kindergarten Geniuses 🤓, Jeremiah and Dequan!!!!! Praying for the win but, either way, we are SO proud of them! 🙌🏾

One of the things we'll miss is seeing our kids open up and just enjoy themselves! Laughter is GOOD for the soul!

We're so excited about what God is doing in our Achiever's lives! They're so excited about learning and growing...and it's showing! These are our Kindergarten and First Graders who made Honor Roll 😎

Our 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders split up into teams to compete in a critical thinking game called Brain Teasers. Team 'God First' came out on top...and they discovered the JOY in learning!

Rihanna is our third recipient for Ericka Dunlap's Student Achievement Award! Yay for straight A's!!!!!! 🤓📖

Congratulations to the winners of Ms. Ericka Dunlap's Student Achievement Award. Anyiah, Loadz, and Rihanna (not pictured) were awarded $100 for receiving ALL A's! Our other Achievers were also placed on the Honor Roll. We're seeing noted improvement in reading, sight words, math, and behavior! We're excited to continue supporting our students as we teach biblical and cultural principles. God us on the move in each of their lives! 🙌🏾🤓

Some tough decisions were made this afternoon on the fate of a young lizard... Welcome back, kids. Welcome back.

Spring Break officially starts today! We're gonna miss all those smiley faces this week!

We're working hard on sight words this week!!!!

He's here to save the day... 😎

Happy Friday 😎

Always a fun time with our Achievers! 😎

This past year, new friendships were forged and the children grew in their desire to not only do well academically but spiritually! They enjoyed the little moments as well as the big moments! We're looking forward to watching how God works in their lives in 2017 and expecting GREAT things!!!! 😎 Thanks to our faithful volunteers like Lynn, Emma, and Mary Kate Schrago, Ripley's Staff, and our supporters! We are so aware of how God has used all of you in the life of the ministry!

Back at it again, new word added to our character foundation: opportunity, opportunity to do better and go to the next level.
We thank our friends who supported our vision and believe in God's calling upon this ministry.
Your trust encouraged us everyday through every trail, heartache that we encounter in 2016, we look forward with anticipation for 2017. Thank You

Tis the season! Our 3-5th grade Achiever's group had a chance to compete for the best essay about the meaning of Christmas. Each of them studied hard while at the program AND at home. Parents shared how they literally turned off the television to make sure they had the best paper. We are so proud of them! Our dear friends at Ripley's judged and read each essay and, after careful consideration, the 1st prize winner was Lois (center) followed by Liberty (right) and Loadz (left). Congratulations! 8-)

So grateful to spend the day with our Achievers! We can't count the amount of laughs, screams and surprises but we know we had FUN! 🎈🎊🎉 Thanks to Ripley's for the awesome memories! Now we're off to lunch for pizza!!! 😎🍕

Ripley's Believe It Or Not!

This past week, we had the privilege of hosting Couponing 101 for the Achievers' parents, community residents, and church members. It was a great time of fellowship, but it was also a great opportunity to present another resource that teaches stewardship. Our parents came back the next day excited to find deals that allow them to receive more for their money, while others were excited to improve their couponing strategy! Thanks to Perry McCartney and the Simple Truth Foundation for providing this awesome class for our community! We're sure that it's going to make a lasting impact on our families!

Hi Friends! The last two weeks have been a success as we move forward with 32 Achievers! Many of them are new students, and we need more volunteers to give them the individualized help they need with reading, math, and general homework help! If you or someone you know is interested in serving as a volunteer, please contact us at [email protected]

This is a great opportunity to make an impact that will be long remembered for a child and his or her family!

We're off to a great start this year! We're excited about how God is growing our impact on the children through education and technology. We 're blessed to have the support and involvement of our parents. God has been faithful!!! More to come!!!

Well, today is our first official day of SUMMER. We enjoyed an awesome last day yesterday at the Achiever's Club. We'll miss our Achievers, Mrs. Amy, and all the volunteers! Thank you Mrs. Amy's creativity, tenacity, and authenticity! Thank you to our volunteers and supporters' faithfulness. Thank you to the Achiever's parents who came to every parent meeting, dinner, and event to show support throughout the school year. We thank our Achievers for pushing towards excellence each day! We made it! This was our best year yet and we won't forget it! We pray that everyone who's a part of the MDM family enjoys this summer!

We had an AWESOME time this weekend with some of our Honor Roll students! Out of ALL the Achievers, this group worked the hardest at school and we wanted to reward them for their growth and faithfulness at school and in the program! We spent Saturday at Splitsville Lanes in Disney Springs! We're so grateful for our volunteers, Mrs. Amy and Cody, and the families for helping make this day a success...and a whole lot of fun too! 8-)

Mrs. Amy with her babies, they all want her full attention.

STEM Friday last week was one for the books! We had a team of high schoolers from the nearby Orlando Science Charter School come by and teach our students about engineering. They had our students break up in groups and do a tower challenge with spaghetti and topping it off with a large marshmallow. The tallest tower won! They also brought their award winning robot that was able to scoop up blocks and small objects. Our students loved all the hands-on activities they were able to do. Thanks again for coming out Orlando Science Middle/High School!

They were all so proud just to get the ball off the tee, had a great time today.
