Mission: The purpose of BLSA is to provide black and any other minority and non-minority law students with access to a local and national network of support resources available through the National Bar Association, the Black Chamber of Commerce, the Orlando Paul C. Perkins Bar Association, and other local, state or nationwide (NBLSA) associations. Moreover, it wishes to ensure the recruitment, academic achievement and retention of minority and non-minority law students, to enhance the employment opportunities of black law students and to cooperate with other law student organizations in the furtherance of the aforementioned purpose.

Make sure you sign up for a mentor through OCBA YLS!!

Registration starts August 27th at 8am and closes on September 3rd!!!

This is a great opportunity for 2Ls and 3Ls to obtain a mentor from the Orange County Bar Association and get valuable experience from attorneys in the Orlando area. I participated last year and it was a GREAT experience! I still keep in contact with my mentor after the program.

[02/23/12]   Hey, if anyone is interested BLSA members have been offered on two great internship opportunities with The Girley Law Firm. The firm focuses on criminal defense, civil rights and social security. Mr. Girley is looking for students who are willing to be trained and are enthusiastic about the practice of law. You need to have taken LRW and preferably, civil procedure. The firm is looking to hire someone for 20 hours a week but the time commitment is negotiable. You should have received an email with the details, but if you did not let know know.

First African American woman lawyer in the United States and first woman admitted to the bar in the District of Columbia. She earned a law degree in 1872 from Howard University and was admitted to the bar in the District of Columbia, which had recently changed its laws to omit "male" from the requirements for the bar. As a "colored woman lawyer" she was unable to sustain a successful private practice.
