Two thank you's this morning; I loved the lighting bug story and thank you for the note of appreciation for lectors. Yes, a lot of time goes into preparation, especially for Paul!.
It was good to hear from my brother cohorts from 2009's ordination class! Some of us are very close and it has been an honor to be their friend. It has been a great nine years of being in the order + five years of school together! Happy Anniversary this past Wednesday!!
Thank you so very much for being there yesterday! It’s means so much to us that you were a part of Abby’s ceremony!!

Come join in and share your beliefs, spirituality, joys and sorrows. This page is to be an extension of our Community as sisters & brothers of Christ!!

I am pleased to announce that I will be the Director of Operations for the Saint Paul Catholic Community (parish & school) in Leesburg, Florida effective August 9th. I will remain assigned to St James Cathedral at the same time, too.

I am excited & looking forward to getting to know the parishioners, students, & staff at St. Paul’s. As we work together to build God’s kingdom on Earth, we realize that we are “prisoners of Christ” in our efforts to fight the good spiritual fight!

From the Holy Father’s talk with his diaconate community in his diocese of Rome today. Pope Francis describes his vision of a deacon:

“Available inside, from the heart, ready to say ‘yes’, docile, without making one's life revolve around one's own agenda; and open outside, looking at everyone, especially those who are left out, those who feel excluded.”

The Holy Father also directs the deacons to lead their communities to the same existence as a sign of the Christian life.

With all the talk this week about the Eucharist, much misunderstood by both the press and laity alike, the focus of the bishops is to help all better understand the greatest gift Christ gave us, which is His very self. A better and clearer understanding of the Eucharist will lead us to what the Holy Father sees as our most important mission of living a truly Christian life.

Wishing my brothers a happy 12th ordination anniversary. My prayers go to our departed brother, Deacon Steve Roe. Remembering my brothers who are facing illnesses that prevent them from active ministry. As Deacons Kinsey & Kelly said during formation: "It's not what you do, it's what you are." Congratulations on being what you are, and saying yes to the call. Happy Anniversary!

No, there was not an emergency at the Cathedral this afternoon! Just a wedding. I had the honor of presiding at Michael & Lauren’s wedding today. Both of them are hero’s in my book - Lauren is a pediatric nurse and Michael is a firefighter with the City of Orlando.

His engine crew came to the wedding and they had the opportunity to be photographed on his station’s engine. They invited an old firefighter to join them in the picture.

Congratulations on the beginning of a beautiful marriage!!

[05/07/21]   Need the prayer warriors - for my Mom whose having major surgery in the morning. She’s in good spirits tonight and concerned as one would be.

May the Divine Healer guide the surgical team and all the healthcare providers. May the Blessed Mother intercede, on my Mom’s behalf, with her Son as this son also hits his knees praying for his mother. St John of God, pray for her. Love you Mom!!

Cute story from this weekend. It is First Holy Communion time at our Cathedral Parish and I had the honor of preaching two Masses this weekend. At the beginning of my homily for the first Mass, I asked the First Communicants to come up on the Altar to ask them a few questions and to make their day special.

My questions equate missing a meal to being hungry and that they do not want to skip a Sunday and receiving the Eucharist because they may become spiritually hungry. My point is to ask them if they had breakfast, lunch, and dinner to which most of them always say yes. . . except today.

I asked the group if they had breakfast this morning and all the hands but one go up. I was hoping the reason this little girl didn't have breakfast was not related to hardship. She says with a loud voice (on her own mind you) that her daddy "forgot to feed her breakfast today." To which the congregation cracks up. Then she adds, "That's my dad right there (pointing) in the purple shirt." Not sure they have stopped laughing at this point. Kids say the darndest things!!
