Prince of Peace/Principe de Paz Youth Ministry

Held every 3 years since 1980, the LCMS Youth Gathering provides thousands of youth and adults the opportunity to come together as a community of God’s people to learn more about Jesus Christ, the Christian faith, and their Lutheran identity. The next Gathering will be held on July 11-15, 2019 in Minneapolis, MN. During the five days of the Gathering, youth spend time together in God’s word, worship, service, and fellowship with others from across the synod. Youth interested in attending the 2019 LCMS Youth Gathering in Minneapolis should plan to attend a Youth/Parent Informational Meeting this Sunday (April 22) at 6:00 pm in the Board Room. To register for the 2019 Gathering, youth participants must have completed ninth grade by June 2019.

Connecting teens to Jesus through education, fellowship and service!

Operating as usual

You read that right! All Prince of Peace/Principe de Paz are invited to a IN PERSON YOUTH NIGHT- This Sunday at Prince of Peace from 6:00-7:30 pm. We will meet OUTSIDE- gathering in front of the Family Life Center at 6:00. Please have a mask with you. We will maintain social distance. You will also need to wear shoes you can run/move in - not flip flops and are strongly encouraged to bring a phone or other device that you can look up Bible passages with.
While the plan is to stay outside, we will have access to bathrooms and I will have water available. We will move inside to the FLC IF weather dictates and maintain social distance there.
If you are not comfortable attending in person- that is ok. We understand and will not pressure you to do so. We WILL have a Wednesday night Zoom check in ( invitation will be sent in a future email) to help us connect as well, so even if you are not quite ready to gather in person, you can stay connected.
On Sunday we will play a few socially distanced games, catch up with each other and spend some time reading and discussing God's Word. It will be refreshing to see your faces ( at least your eyes since your nose and mouth will be under a mask! 🙂)
Please call/text me at 402-620-5877 with and questions or concerns.

LCMS Youth Gathering

Here is your first look at the National Youth Gathering 2022 in Houston!

We're diving into Colossians 1:15-20 for the 2022 LCMS Youth Gathering! It's time to get excited for In All Things!

To learn more about the theme, check out our Thematic Development and Talking Points on!

On August 1st, Prince of Peace/Principe de Paz will hold its annual "Back to School" Community Backpack distribution. We will have hundreds of kids who will be there to get a backpack, school supplies and more. Because of the pandemic- it will be a "drive through" event.
We are looking for people to help us prepare the backpacks and also people to help with distribution. A couple of hours of prep are being identified as "Youth Time slotss". This will give small groups of teens the chance to actually see each other and work together ( socially distanced) to serve our community.

I am inviting groups of Youth ( no more than 6 teens per time slot) to gather at PoP in the Family Life Center at the times below to fill the backpacks. We will not be the only group doing this, but we will also be kept distant from other groups.

Wednesday, July 29 from Noon- 2:00 pm

Wednesday, July 29 from 3:00-5:00 pm

If you would like to sign up for one of these times- Reply to this post or text me at 402-620-5877

ALSO- We need help with distribution from 8:30 am on Saturday until 11:00 am.
For both packing and distribution we will practice social distancing AND provide gloves and masks if necessary.

We do need people to help, so if you are comfortable attending, please sign up. If you can't help on Wednesday but can on Saturday, please respond to this post or text me at 4002-620-5877.

Our community needs us to be the heart, hands and feet of Jesus in the heart of Orlando. I hope you will join me!

Please call, text or contact me in any way if you have questions!

If you have a student in the second year of Confirmation, I just sent a survey to your family about how you would like to proceed with classes and the Rite of Confirmation. Your responses are essential to our planning. Please take a few minutes to give us your feedback. - If you don't see it- please check your junk mail as it may not have made it past your filters.
Be blessed and be safe!

This week our check in with Youth will be on SATURDAY- Not Sunday since Sunday is Mother's Day. It will be at the same time- 6:00 pm. This is a chance to check in with our students, see how everyone is doing, play a little and spend a little devotion time together. I also have a few things that I want to discuss that the Youth and Family Committee has asked me to discuss with our students. It should be 30-45 minutes. I hope you will join the conversation!
Zoom link was sent to your email

After experimenting with some alternate times- it seems that our regular Youth Night time of 6:00 on Sunday Night is the best fit for everyone- so that is what we will go with until further notice- Starting tomorrow 4/26/00!

The link to the meeting is in your email- or your parents email. I am thinking it will be about 30-45 minutes of checking in, a game or two and some encouragement from God's Word. It is also just good to see each others faces. Please check it out or encourage your teen to do so.

Contact me at 402-620-5877 or at [email protected] with any questions you might have.

Hey Youth and Parents,
I know we are all getting a little bit of cabin fever and are ready to get out there and see our friends. While we cannot do that in person just yet, tonight will be an opportunity to see your friends from Prince of Peace/Principe de Paz AND get a little time of encouragement from God's Word. We will meet online on Zoom for a time to talk, hang out and share. In the future, I hope to have some online games for us to play too- but for tonight it will be just a chance to check in.
To join the meeting, make sure you download the Zoom app and then join the meeting at 7:00. The meeting number and password are below. As always- you can always call or text me at 402-620-5877 as well if you want to talk privately.

Feeling unconnected and missing your friends? I am certainly missing all of the Prince of Peace/Principe de Paz teens. I get it!
I am working on setting up an online Youth Night for this week- not entirely sure when it will be yet as I am experimenting with tech- i am NOT tech savvy but I am trying!!! Check back here and/or check your email ( or your parents email) for more info and a link to the activity.

Hang in there! God is in control and He will see us through! If you want to/need to talk- reach out to me at 402-620-5877. I am happy to listen and encourage and pray for you! God loves you and so do I!

[03/20/20]   Sent the following email out earlier today. Posted here for your convenience

Students and Families,
Well, it sure has been an interesting week! I pray that you are healthy and safe. I also hope you were able to join with your Prince of Peace family online for worship last weekend. We will have an online worship experience again this week. Please join in participating in that and please share the link with friends and family.
For at least a few more weeks we will not be able to gather for Confirmation classes or Youth Ministry activities. So...we will take advantage of the tools we have to allow us to continue to learn and grow in our relationships with God and with each other.

I'll share about Confirmation first. I would like students to complete Chapter 24 in their workbooks ( pages 97-100). Next week I will be in touch about further lessons. I am hoping to have at least one or two classes using Zoom- but I will send more specifics on that once I plan those lessons. For now, take some time at home to finish Lesson 24- "The Power of Baptism and What Baptism Indicates"
Right now, the plans for the actual Confirmation ceremony are uncertain. It seems like every time you turn on the news, something changes. I pray we are back to worshiping together in person by the first Sunday in May and we can proceed with the Rite of Confirmation as planned- but that is far from certain. I will keep updating you as new information becomes available.

In the near future, I would like to start a Zoom online gathering for some time in God's word and time to check in with each other. I hope to launch that next week as well. In the meantime, please remember that I am always available to chat, listen to you if you need to rant, pray with you or just talk about whatever you want. My cell is 402-620-5877. I have been trying to check in with a few students daily just to see how everyone is doing. Please reply to me privately with your cell number if you have not heard from me.

Be blessed during this time of isolation. I pray each of you is able to stay healthy and possibly charge your batteries a little. Please let me know if their is anything I can do to assist you in any way.

Coronavirus Update #2 God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea…. The Lord Almighty is with us; the God of Jacob is our fortress. (Psalm 46:1-2, 7)

As the COVID-19 pandemic continues to develop, the leaders of Prince of Peace/Príncipe de Paz have made the very difficult decision to not gather in-person this Sunday for our normal three worship services.

Please watch for continued updates and information. If you are in need of assistance, prayer, or have any questions about these matters, please email [email protected].

Reminder- Youth Super Bowl THIS Sunday at 6:30 at Eric's House - 13305 Lake Turnberry Circle- Orlando

Come for the football, the fun, time with friends- and you may even win a prize. In order to win, you MUST be present at kickoff. Even if you don't care about the game- come hang out, play video games, eat, talk- whatever!
I did send out a Sign Up Genius for food- you can still respond to that email or just check with me to see what is still needed. ( We can still use more of just about everything! Its a Super Bowl Party after all!) Parents and Youth Committee members are welcome to join us too!

I can help students who are dropped off with a ride home- just give me a little advance notice to make sure we can take care of everyone. See you Sunday!

Souper Bowl of Caring Volunteers Needed This Sunday, Prince of Peace/Principe de Paz Youth are asked to help the Food Pantry Ministry raise funds during our "Souper Bowl of Caring" day. At each Worship Service this Sunday, a presentation about the Food Pantry will be given. After the service, we need Youth to stand at the door to collect....

Prince of Peace VBS 2020 will take kids to the Rocky Mountains as we learn that Jesus' Power Pulls Us Through!

We will have VBS June 8-12 from 9:00 am- Noon. Volunteers will need to be at PoP by 8:30 each morning. I am currently recruiting Station Leaders and Crew Leaders. Please reach out to me at [email protected] or 402-620-5877 to let me know how you would like to volunteer or if you have questions.

Update- The Coming Weekend at Prince of Peace/Principe de Paz Youth Ministry

1) Don't forget that Friday is the deadline to reserve your ROCK THE UNIVERSE tickets. If you are concerned with the expense, contact me and we will work to find a solution.

2) Sunday Youth Bible class continues our look at the Life of Christ using the script from "Godspell". This creative class, led by volunteer Nina Rojas, is a fun way to add depth to your understanding of who Jesus is. Class is from 9:30-10:30 in the Bickel Building.

3) Confirmation classes resume on Sunday at 4:30

4) Youth Night in the Family Life Center at 6:00. Come for games, time in God's Word and fun with friends!

Prince of Peace Youth will again have the opportunity to attend ROCK THE UNIVERSE at Universal Studios this January. RTU is a Christian Music concert hosted at the main Universal Studios park. The doors for the event open at 4:00 pm and concerts go late into the night.
This year, PoP will attend on Friday, January 24th.
The concert line up that night includes- Newsboys United, Switchfoot, Tenth Avenue North, Tauren Wells, Tedashii and The Afters. This is a pretty stacked line up! In addition to these acts, the attractions will all be open as well.
I am trying to put together enough people to go to qualify for a group discount. With a group discount, the price would be $70.00 per person.
Unfortunately, I have just learned that all group sales MUST be completed by January 10th ( this Friday). SO- if you would like to attend this event ( It doesn't just have to be students- adults can sign up too) , and you want to attend with our group- please commit to buying a ticket by noon on Friday, January 10th. I will pay for all who commit with a PoP credit card and then collect money later.
BTW- since schools don't all get out at the same time, some people may want to arrange their own transportation to the park. This may also allow you to go earlier, stay later, leave early- whatever makes sense for you. I will arrange for some group transportation to and from the church, but you are not obligated to use it.
The most important part right now is that I will need anyone who wants to go to commit to purchasing tickets by noon on Friday, January 10th. Contact DCE Eric Gerken at 402-620-5877 or at [email protected]
