[11/29/19]   Wishing all my friends and their families a Happy Thanksgiving

With Thanksgiving Day just a couple of days away, I want to take this time to wish everyone a Happy Thanksgiving. It has been my observation that most people's lives become more excited and hectic as we gather together to celebrate this day. Whether you are traveling or planning the Thanksgiving Day meal, it seems we have more to do and less time to do it in. As you visit with family and friends this season, I urge you take a deep breath and consider this advice:

Count your blessings. Take a moment and recall all of the blessings you have received over the past year. I realize that many people continue to face difficult times. However, each of us has so many things to be thankful for. I couldn’t help but think of Lou Gehrig’s farewell speech at Yankee Stadium on July 4, 1939. If you are a sports fan, the chances are good that you’ve probably seen footage of that historic speech or heard his famous speech.

The words that most of us remember are when Lou Gehrig said, “Today I consider myself the luckiest man on the face of this earth.” What an amazing statement from a person who knew that he had amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). This terminal illness is now commonly referred to as “Lou Gehrig’s Disease.”

As Thanksgiving Day approaches this year, I found myself thinking about Gehrig’s uplifting words. When the Pilgrims celebrated the first Thanksgiving in 1621, it wasn’t for the purpose of focusing on their hard life. It was to give thanks for the bountiful harvest reaped by the Plymouth Colony following a severe winter.
Please start each day in solitude being grateful for all you have and it will change the way you look at life.

Make someone’s day (Fish Philosophy). There are so many people in need in our lives and community and this is a wonderful time of the year to reach out and help others.
Ask yourself, “How can I make someone’s day brighter?” Can I smile, can I laugh, can I be polite, or can I provide words of encouragement or a random act of kindness.

Your good deed might not seem like much, but if everyone did something good for someone else, then the cycle of generosity and kindness can spark us to become better people. “Pay it forward.”

My wife Linda and I would like to wish you and your families a safe and Happy Thanksgiving.

A thanksgiving prayer that I thought was appropriate for what we do as an organization.

Oh, Heavenly Father,
We thank Thee for food and remember the hungry.
We thank Thee for health and remember the sick.
We thank Thee for freedom and remember the enslaved and especially our veterans.
May these characteristics stir us to service.
Amen.

God bless you all, remember to Pay it Forward and if you are traveling, you will be in our prayers.

Linda and John Gionet

WOW! What an awesome weekend for our Church. We are grateful for the opportunity to provide the community and families impacted by autism with a family-friendly Trunk or Treat.

Thank you to all the staff and volunteers from Santiago & Friends Family Center for Autism for giving of their time so all children could participate. Special thanks to UnitedHealth Care and Nightlite Pediatrics for your support and a HUGE thank you to Tropical Fun Rentals for saving the day. Your bounce houses were a hit!

To our church members who joined in making the event a success, thank you! We look forward to many more opportunities to join families in fellowship.
