Therefore we will serve Him through our worship, praise, work, and spiritual growth. We are also called by our Lord Jesus Christ to share His "Bread of Life" with those in the community, city, state, country, and world. We will continue this wonderful calling by growing in our relationship with Him, living our lives in a Biblical way, and offering ministries and programs to reach as many people as possible with this wonderful message of salvation in Jesus Christ.

Mission: Our mission is to reach our community with the love of Jesus Christ and teach the truth of God’s Word.

Courage

Deuteronomy 31:6 "Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the Lordyour God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you."

Good morning.

Fear doesn’t have the right to rule us. When we lean into the Lord, He provides the key to overcoming that fear: courage. This doesn’t mean that we won’t be scared at times. Courage doesn’t eliminate fear. Rather, it provides the strength to step over it. When faced with opposition, courage sees an opportunity to overcome. Courage flips the script. Courage writes history. Courage changes lives.

We must remember that every step of the way, we’re not alone. This very big and very good God is very close. And believe me, He wants you to win.

What is the next step that you’ve been hesitant to take?

HEARERS AND DOERS OF THE WORD

“But don’t just listen to God’s word. You must do what it says. Otherwise, you are only fooling yourselves. For if you listen to the word and don’t obey, it is like glancing at your face in a mirror. You see yourself, walk away, and forget what you look like. But if you look carefully into the perfect law that sets you free, and if you do what it says and don’t forget what you heard, then God will bless you for doing it.” James 1 :22-25

Kingdom leaders are mandated to live the word of God, being an example to the world. We are expected to uphold the standard of God in all we say and do. There are people who have never read the Bible or attended a church. That is why our life must be a living epistle (letter) which can be read of men. Our conduct and lifestyle sends forth a message that represents the Kingdom. The word of God should be alive in us for all to see.

QUESTION: Does my life and leadership coincide with the Word of God?

HONESTY

“Dearly beloved, I beseech you as strangers and pilgrims, abstain from fleshly lusts, which war against the soul; Having your conversation honest among the Gentiles: that, whereas they speak against you as evildoers, they may by your good works, which they shall behold, glorify God in the day of visitation.” 1 Peter 2:11-12

The word honest in the ancient Greek means to be morally beautiful, of good quality. In today’s language it means to be free from fraud or deception, to be truthful, legitimate, to have integrity. Kingdom leaders should not have hidden agendas, or be fraudulent in their dealings, but rather, have an impeccable reputation and be known for their integrity. Honesty will cause those who speak against Kingdom leaders to behold their good works and to glorify God.

QUESTION: When the world looks at me, what does it see?

HUMILITY

“In the same way, you who are younger, be subject to the elders. And all of you, clothe yourselves with humility toward one another, because God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble. And God will exalt you in due time, if you humble yourselves under his mighty hand.” 1 Peter 5:5-6 KJV

"He opposes (to range in battle against) the proud, but gives grace to the humble." The Lord is provoked against us when we walk in pride. To be humble is to be devoid of pride. It shows our dependence on God in all we do. Humility says I recognize my insufficiency and I depend totally on God to sustain me.

“I am the vine, ye are the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing." John 15:5 KJV

QUESTION: Have I acknowledged my insufficiency and placed my dependency on the All Sufficient God?

HOLINESS

“Therefore, with minds that are alert and fully sober, set your hope on the grace to be brought to you when Jesus Christ is revealed at his coming. As obedient children, do not conform to the evil desires you had when you lived in ignorance. But just as he who called you is holy, so be holy in all you do; for it is written: Be holy, because I am holy." 1 Peter 1:13-16 NIV

Holiness is God’s character. It defines us as His people and His Kingdom leaders. Holiness comes forth only from the Holy Spirit as He sanctifies—sets us apart daily— for God’s use. It is the Lord God’s way of letting the world know we belong to Him. The behavior of Christians should reflect the character of God at all times.

“Ye have seen what I did unto the Egyptians, and how I bare you on eagles’ wings, and brought you unto myself. Now therefore, if ye will obey my voice indeed, and keep my covenant, then ye shall be a peculiar treasure unto me above all people: for all the earth is mine: And ye shall be unto me a kingdom of priests and a holy nation. These are the words which thou shalt speak unto the children of Israel.” Exodus 19:4-6 KJV

Scripture: Proverbs 15:1

“A gentle answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger” (Proverbs 15:1, NIV).

Big idea

Words can be used in many ways. They can be meaningful and healing, offer optimism and encouragement to someone in despair, and resolve disputes. A kind, compassionate, thoughtful, or caring word can calm troubled waters, give hope to the hopeless, heal a broken heart, and be a light to those around us. However, hateful, cruel, harsh, or careless words can be used to wound, discourage, or create disagreements by being a disgusting odor that echoes what is in our minds while stirring up strife.

When someone provokes anger, their words feel like a sharp knife that leads to pain, and even in some cases, revenge. When you provoke someone to anger with words or actions, at that moment, you are unconcerned with their well-being, the condition of your soul, or the glory of the Kingdom of God. If you love God, why would you want to provoke anger in someone who is also made in His image? Those who love God are careful of their words, so their tongue does not lead to sin by provoking others to anger (Psalm 39:1).

Personal reflection – Journal your response to the questions below:

When was the last time that someone's words hurt you? What emotions did that experience trigger? How much influence for good would Proverbs 15:1 facilitate if it were applied daily within the Body of Christ and practiced in our lives, churches, and homes?

Prayer

Dear Lord, I pray that you would help me see all you created as fellow image-bearers of Christ. Forgive me for the times that I may have provoked others with my words, help me with that. Thank you for this reminder today to put your glory above what I want to do or say. Thank you for your word and how it can help us in our relationships. May I be mindful of my words. In Jesus Name, I pray, amen!

Today's Lunchtime Devotional

Scripture: Read James 1:19-27

“Those who consider themselves religious and yet do not keep a tight rein on their tongues deceive themselves, and their religion is worthless” (James 1:26, NIV).

Big idea

One of the things that we need to confront within the community of believers is our obsession with looking the part of a Christian. We check off specific boxes: I read my Bible; check, I go to church; check, I pray; check, I can quote Scriptures; check, check, check. We consider ourselves to be a committed follower of Christ, but James 1:26 illustrates that our checklist is worthless if we cannot keep our tongue in check. In this verse, the word “religious” refers to those who believe they are faithful Christians, and James lists the requirement of being a devoted follower of Christ as having control over your tongue. Desiring to be committed to God is good, but what is of higher importance is how you actually live. If you lack the discipline to control your words, you are deceiving yourself about being a faithful follower of Christ, because self-control is essential to the Christian life (2 Pet. 1:5–6; Gal. 5:22–23).

You “deceive yourself” when your words mimic the essence of your heart instead of God’s. The Bible tells us that “out of the heart the mouth speaks” (Matt. 12:34), and what is in our hearts is what produces our words and actions. To “rein in the tongue,” we must transform our hearts and minds. James is explicit about what it means to obey this law freely. If you abide by this law, you are careful of what you say, by not giving your tongue the liberty of speaking whatever it desires. Also, you honor God and his ways with words that do not injure others because you understand that Christianity is not about looking good. However, it is about being good (your character, and God’s perception of you).

Today's Lunchtime Devotional

Scripture: Read James 1:19-27

“My dear brothers and sisters, take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to anger” (James 1:19, NIV).

Big idea

2020 has been a year that many of us have endured with much hardship and loss. We are in the middle of a pandemic and an outcry for social justice and change. In the world today, anger surrounds us and at times life can feel overwhelming. With all that we are facing, sometimes it is easy to be offended, and at other times it can be difficult not to lash out at others. James understood the plight of the believer and the hardships that we would endure. In James 1:19, he encourages us not only to be quick to listen and slow to speak, but also to be slow to anger. James believes that speaking and anger are connected because listening is most difficult when we are angry. James gives this warning because he recognizes that circumstances and trials introduce daily possibilities for conflicts.

Challenges make us slow to listen and quick to speak and more than likely, when we are swift to speak, we speak out of anger. Thoughtless words and hot-headed tempers can create a fire that will damage people, their relationships, ministries, and our witness when we are quick to argue our positions, views, opinions, and push our own agendas. Many Scriptures warn of the toxic words that can be venom from our lips when we react in frustration or anger. Relationships come with struggles, and disagreements can be opportunities for testing our faith (1 Pet. 1:7; Rom. 5:3-5), but the integrity of relationship that James is calling for is a discipline that will cause us to delay our anger and the need to defend our views and judge others, and instead, concentrate on listening.

Reflection

Being slow to anger means that my primary goal is listening and fully hearing, not so I may respond, but so that I may seek to understand the other side of the conflict.

Scripture: Read James 1:19-27

“My dear brothers and sisters, take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak…” (James 1:19, NIV).

Big idea

In this verse, James says that Christians should be “quick to listen and slow to speak,” exposing the depravity of an unrestrained tongue. James’ answer to free expression is to silence it by listening first. “Listen” derives from the Greek word ακούω (pronounced a-kou-o), meaning to consider what has been said, to understand, and to learn. Following that is the phrase “slow to speak.” In this Scripture, James warns believers against self-deception, which is present in a conversation where we are unwilling to listen first so that we can hear, consider, understand, and learn.

Although James’ words could have been meant for disputes with unbelieving persecutors, there are implications that his instructions were to warn against thoughtless behavior in relationships among fellow Christians (Jas. 4:1, 5:9). Therefore, James was encouraging Christians to be conscious of God’s Word (Rom. 10:17). It is not retreating from conflict described in this verse because James reveals God’s expectation for all who have been born again. It is that we actively make an effort to change habits and behaviors of speaking before listening. An attitude that promotes the righteous life that God desires is fostered when we listen by considering, understanding, and learning from each other. Careful listening serves and assists in administering God’s love for others that can heal, repair, build, and strengthen the community of believers. In doing so, this is the ministry that God desires for all believers to have toward each other

Reflection

Throughout life, many of us have experienced the consequences of opening our mouth and responding quickly to others’ words and actions. We must be willing to listen to what is said, hear what is spoken, guard our lips and be cognizant of our reactions in all that we do
