"I walked through the biblical narrative of creation, explaining how in the beginning people worshiped one God. Over time, other faiths developed, and I showed how Jesus was the fulfillment of prophesy going back to the Garden of Eden. I stressed that it was not logical that all faiths could be right, since they contradict one another in major ways. I shared why I trust the Bible as the source of truth and put my confidence in Jesus as the One Way."

As Christians we are often dealing with problems that linger because we haven't learned to pray with authority according to God's promises. I speak from experience; God is healing me emotionally and changing me. God is bound to his Word, but do we know what God says about our circumstances, and what He has promised to do? Faith comes from hearing the Word of God. God is faithful and will answer you. Listen to this study on "Claiming your legal right," by Dr. Tony Evans on this topic. Biblical. Powerful. [02/15/15] Does Jesus have authority to heal? Does faith matter? Recently I have been studying Matthew 8:5-13 and Luke 7:1-10. Jesus is approached by a Roman centurion who asks the Lord to heal his servant (pais, Matthew 8:6; perhaps "servant boy"). The centurion's faith and recognition of Jesus' authority amazes Jesus. Jesus declared: "I tell you the truth, I have not found anyone in Israel with such great faith" (8:10). Jesus responds to the faith of the centurion by healing his servant from a distant. Why is this important? If you compare the passages in the two gospels you'll notice that Luke's report of the event involves a delegation of both Jewish elders and some of the centurion's friends who speak to Jesus on behalf of the centurion (see Luke 7:3, 6). This is not a contradiction, but a familiar way in Ancient Near Eastern cultures to allow representatives of someone in authority to speak on their behalf, something like our ambassadors do today. But, why did Jesus celebrate the faith of the centurion? First, Jesus affirms faith as the means by which we enter the Kingdom (Matthew 8:11-12; contrast the lack of faith of many in Capernaum, Matt. 8:5; 11:23-24). But there is more. I think that we can also conclude that the centurion's faith must have had an impact on those who represented him. Among other things, the passage shows that God will showcase faith in Him to the world as a means by which He will display His authority over sickness, nature, and the spirit world, etc. (see Matthew 8-9). So, how do we respond when we or those we love confront sickness, tragedy, lost, or suffering? I desperately need God's grace to help me respond in faith. When doing so, the Lord will display His glory and authority in my life and as a result, influence how others can respond to Him as well. Whether God moves to heal or not, our response of faith and trust in Him does matter.
