The Lutheran Legal League is a group of Christian attorneys ready to help LCMS Churches, Schools, Rostered Workers, and Congregation members.
The Lutheran Legal League is made up of actively practicing attorneys who regularly attend worship in a Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod. Simply stated, we are a unique fraternal organization of Christ filled attorneys who desire to assist our Synodical churches, schools, ministries, missions and LCMS members with their legal needs. We are NOT a referral company but rather want to serve our God by helping our brothers and sisters within the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod. Our members practice in most every area of the law. Why is this important? Because we know life presents our fellow believers with many challenges and we want to have someone who also loves the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod available to assist you should something come up. We have members ready, willing and able to assist you throughout the Synod who practice in these areas: Real Estate law, Family law, Civil and Criminal law, Corporate and Business law, Banking and Finance law, Healthcare Law, Personal Injury, Appellate law, Employment law, Discrimination and Civil Rights law, Environmental law, Eminent Domain, Insurance law, Elder law, Estate Planning, Trust and Probate law, Transaction and Contract law, Tax law, Worker’s Compensation and Non-Profit law. As you can see, the list is extensive but by no means exhaustive. If you have a particular legal need not listed above let us know. If you are an active member of a Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod and need legal assistance, please post your message here and one of our Lutheran Legal League Members will get back with you. May God bless you as you remember His great redeeming gift, our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
Mission: To serve the Churches, Schools, workers and members of the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod and demonstrate the Love of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
[04/24/17] Prayers needed for Trinity Lutheran Church Columbia, MO Case. Supreme Court Justices will decide if and how to protect religious freedoms. May God grant them wisdom.
[08/16/16] Please pray for your brothers and sisters in Louisiana. L3 member who can assist with disaster relief efforts are needed. There is a great deal of property damage and people will need help dealing with their insurance companies.
Dear LCMS Family. We know that prayer is a powerful weapon to overcome the evil one. We have received so many requests for assistance and some of those requests are, shall we say, in desperate need of prayer. While L3 is helping these folks with their legal needs, I ask that you lift up the following situations in prayer. The names and locations are not included so we can maintain confidentiality but God knows them each by name.
1. A mentally handicapped young man needs prayers for a reduction in the egregious sentencing imposed upon him by the Judge.
2. A wife and mother needs prayers as her husband just unexpectedly filed for divorce.
3. A woman needs prayers for healing after she fell at a hotel and is suffering from pain.
4. A Pastor needs prayers for peace and resolution as he is having great difficulties with his insurance carrier after a car accident.
5. A woman needs prayers that the court would grant her custody of her children.
Please take a moment and lift these people, our LCMS family, up in prayer. God will receive your prayers and we trust him to answer our prayers in a mighty way.
[07/22/16] Instead of wasting our time on pokeymon go, let's worship Jesus and go and make disciples.
[07/12/16] Well Brothers and Sisters, it is now the end of day three here at the 66th Annual LCMS Convention. What a fantastic day. Met some really wonderful people who visited our booth and at the end of the day got to eat awesome food at Concordia Mequon. Super bus ride home now prepping for...ok, going to sleep cause we are exhausted.
[07/11/16] I challenged Bishop Jamison Hardy to a wrestling match but then something scary happened...he came to the booth. Who spilled the beans?????
[07/10/16] Well, Kris and I have completed our first Convention together. What a blessing. We met some really great folks within and around the Synod and are looking forward to forging some long standing friendships. Can't wait until tomorrow to being a new day at the 2016 Convention.
IOWA LCMS take note, Alliance Defending Freedom filed a lawsuit against members of the Iowa Civil Rights Commission because the Commission seeks to censor Pastors in the pulpit. In a pamphlet recently published by ICRC they write:
DOES THIS LAW APPLY TO CHURCHES ?
Sometimes. Iowa law provides that these protections
do not apply to religious institutions with respect to any
religion-based qualifications when such qualifications
are related to a bona fide religious purpose. Where
qualifications are not related to a bona fide religious
purpose, churches are still subject to the law’s provisions.
(e.g. a child care facility operated at a church or
a church service open to the public)
This statement may well conflict with other Supreme Court decisions. Keep your Brothers and Sisters in Iowa in your prayers that God's light will always shine!
[07/04/16] Pray for our missionaries doing God work without borders.
[07/01/16] May God bless you as we celebrate the 240th birthday of the greatest country in His creation. Be safe and God bless America.
[06/30/16] LCMS Family....if you have not already done so, please join the Lutheran Federal Credit Union. This is open to all LCMS churches, schools and members. We have long needed an entity like this and now we have it. L3 members and other LCMS Lawyers . . . I really need you to join. I have reached out to the leadership at LFCU and at present they are not set up to help us. I suspect if we have a large number of us reaching out to them we would then be able to use their services corporately and like our churches, we would save money in bank fees.
The US Supreme Court rendered its decision in WHOLE WOMAN’S HEALTH ET AL. v. HELLERSTEDT, COMMISSIONER, TEXAS DEPARTMENT OF STATE HEALTH SERVICES, ET AL. Regardless of whether you are pro life or pro choice, this is a seriously disappointing decision as it belittles a woman's life.
In sum, the court held that an abortionist does not have to offer a woman seeking an abortion the same standard of medical care as does a physician that performs other in office surgical procedures. In fact, the abortionist does not even have to have admitting privileges in a nearby hospital. I suppose if complications arise the abortionist can turn the patient over to another doctor who can admit and care for the patient.
The decision can be found athttp://www.supremecourt.gov/opinions/15pdf/15-274_p8k0.pdf
Please pray for the women in Texas that God would protect them.
[06/14/16] The evil one is out to steal and destroy. Please pray for those effected by the Orlando shooting. We are strongest when we are on our knees.
Please take a moment and read the Department of Education and Department of Justice's joint statement as it relates to how schools, including LCMS Schools, who accept federal funds will be effected by this mandate. http://www2.ed.gov/about/offices/list/ocr/letters/colleague-201605-title-ix-transgender.pdf
[06/08/16] Please come by our booth at the Convention in Milwaukee. We have lots to talk about.
[05/18/16] In a Supreme Court decision on Monday, the court ruled in part, that religious employers do not have to provide contraceptives under the Obama plan. Like this page to stay informed.
VERY IMPORTANT! ! ! ! ! ADF Needs your prayers!
RALEIGH, N.C. - Alliance Defending Freedom attorneys representing students and parents at North Carolina public schools and universities filed suit Tuesday against the U.S. departments of Justice and Education for making federal student aid and educational funding dependent on students sharing restrooms and locker rooms with the opposite sex. The suit is similar to one ADF filed against the two agencies on behalf of parents and students in Illinois last week.
The DOJ disregarded student privacy and safety when it issued letters threatening the suspension of federal funding for North Carolina's schools and university system, as well as federal financial aid for North Carolina's university students, unless the state government repudiated the law known as House Bill 2. That law ensures that government facilities and public schools protect personal privacy by maintaining sex-specific restrooms, locker rooms, and showers. The DOJ then filed suit against the state on Monday, the same day that the governor and the General Assembly each sued the agency over its illegitimate demands.
[05/09/16] Please pray for those in North Carolina who are fighting to keep God first in ALL matters.

[03/17/16] Our new profile picture means," Virtue without Stain." This has nothing to do to ourselves but because each member of the Lutheran Legal League has been covered with the blood of our savior and therefore, by his suffering, death, and resurrection, we are made stainless. Thanks be to God!
[03/11/16] As the LCMS convention approaches, I wanted to let you know the league will have a booth at the convention. If you're going, please stop by and say hello.

[03/07/16] Please pray for Pastor Aaron Filipek and the members of Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Newton, KS. If you are licensed to practice law in Kansas and can offer assistance, please reach out to Pastor Filipek.
A frightening message from BREVARD COUNTY FLORIDA PUBLIC SCHOOLS
A Statement from Dr. Blackburn Regarding Inclusion Policies
BREVARD COUNTY, FLA. - At the February 23, 2016 school board meeting, the Board considered adding sexual orientation and gender identity to our anti-harassment policy. As part of all school board meetings, there was public commentary, much of which voiced strong opposition to the policy change. While many of the comments offered sincere opposition to the change, other speakers chose to use language that many felt was offensive, including the Board, staff, our students and myself. I want to reassure you that these sentiments do not represent the thoughts, feelings, or interests of our district. In fact, it is the position of this district that we are great champions of all human beings regardless of their sex, religion, national origin, race, disability, gender identity, and so forth.
Brevard Public Schools follows both state and federal guidelines regarding equality and has a strong history of supporting students and staff of the LGBT community and the proposed language change was intended to enhance our current practices. There was misinformation shared by some of the public speakers, suggesting that this policy would increase the rights of some students while decreasing the rights of others. This simply is just not the case. Our motives are based on our desire to provide a safe and nurturing learning environment for all students; without exception. Due to the volume of misinformation surrounding the policy, the Board elected to pause further action while we will continue to develop inclusionary practices as part of our strategic planning process. This will include a revision to our discipline plan to ensure the consistent application of our policies is adhered to by all students; creating an equitable and safe environment.
The conversation relating to this topic that began with the February 23rd school board meeting did not signify an ending to this conversation but simply the beginning. In the weeks and months to come, we will have additional conversations around inclusion issues and our non-discrimination policies. With that being said, I want to clearly indicate that while we welcome respectful and constructive input from the public, hurtful or defamatory speech will not enhance the work we can do together to support our staff and students.

[03/02/16] We pray for Principal Mike Rathje of Lutheran South Academy in Houston, TX. Late last month an intruder entered the school and, when asked to leave, attacked the principal. Mike was taken to the hospital with multiple injuries and broken bones. The attacker is now in policy custody. We pray for speedy healing for Mike and give glory to God that all the students are safe.
