I want to know if any UU churches are using bulk text messaging as a way to keep members informed about announcements and other relevant topics. If so, how well is it working?

Good Morning All, The University Unitarian Universalist Society/Fellowship of Orlando is hosting the Worship Renaissance Module at the end of March. The Module is appropriate for RE Team Members AND Worship Team Members. There is Home Hospitality available. I have had a couple of questions about who might want to take this module. So I pulled from the information within the module itself. Feel free to reach out to me if you have any questions. Goals and Learning Objectives The overall goals of this module are: • To explore worship formation • To appreciate the range of worship experiences • To gain resources and skills for the craft of worship • To understand and practice the power of stories in worship • To evaluate the aspects and impact of a worship service The module explores these areas: • Purpose of worship • Significance of personal and congregational narratives about worship • Fluency with the language of worship • Key distinctions and similarities of a range of worship opportunities • Structure of successful orders of service • Healthy and effective teamwork among those who plan/present worship • Power and use of stories in worship • Sensitivity to cultural appropriation in choosing readings, songs, and stories for worship • Appreciation for the purpose and construction of a sermon/homily • Specific and meaningful evaluation of worship services To register please click here: https://docs.google.com/…/1FAIpQLSc8mHE1kenTFikT_…/viewform…
Southern Region friends! Mark your calendar for October 20th. This regional gathering will include some of the experiences we've had at General Assembly and at UUAMP Professional Days, and will also allow us to explore experiences that might be specific to serving in our region. We welcome paid staff and volunteer leaders who work closely with members.

I am Ken Schmidt from the Social Justice Committee from UU Congregation of Lakeland, FL. We are exploring ways to help Puerto Rico evacuees/refugees who fled because of the extensive damage at home. They are arriving/have arrived in Florida and we are trying to find ways to help them resettle, find jobs and fit into society here. Are there any established programs for this purpose? I have looked at the UUA website, the Southern Region website (part of the UUA website) and the UUSC website and have not been able to find anything. I emailed Connie Goodbread at UUA and she could not find anything like this. Does anyone in the Southern Region know of anything like this.

Creating more love, joy, courage, justice, and hope in the South.

Mission: Creating more love, joy, courage, justice, and hope in the South.

Rev. Susan Frederick-Gray

This is no time to go it alone. The more we can make space for people to bring and share their gifts, the more ministry will happen, even as we let go of some things that are not essential in this time.

We all are holding so much. I am witnessing all of you doing so much to care for your communities – for your people of all ages and the wider community – to minister and hold people in this time. I pray you are finding ways to take time to breathe, to let go of all you are holding for a moment, to check in with your heart, your spirit, listening for what you need to care for yourself. I write this to help me remind myself to do this as well.

The trolls are out! (And no, not the iconic Danish doll.)

Internet trolls have wreaked havoc on several UU congregations. Luckily, the UUA's Congregational Life team has got your back! Here are some helpful tools to ensure your services aren't so "hairy."

I am profoundly grateful for all of the transgender, agender, and nonbinary Unitarian Universalists who nurture our spiritual life in this faith. May trans religious professionals, lay leaders, individuals, and their families be seen and loved and lifted up on this #TransDayofVisibility and every day.

Sharing a pastoral message from Rev. Susan Frederick-Gray

A brief message to share my thoughts and offer my blessings as we all lean into our ministries in this difficult and uncertain time. I hope you will share this with your congregations and communities in your online Sunday services.

Amplifying Unitarian Universalism

From Rev. Lauren Smith, Director of Stewardship and Development at the UUA: "The coronavirus landed at a time when many congregations are deep in the process of their annual pledge drives and budget process. Many congregational leaders have expressed anxiety about fundraising at this time. We want you to know that at times of social upheaval and disruption, people need and value religious community most."

Love Surrounds Us Home Use Sessions 1 - 3.pdf

Sharing from Natalie Briscoe, Southern Region co-lead:

In support of both Religious Educators and caregivers at home, I am modifying the Love Surrounds Us program from Tapestry of Faith for home use. The intent is that the sessions are easy, simple, and use things that you probably already have lying around the house. They can be done with one child or many children, of any ages. Here are the first three sessions, which could be one per day. I'll get the next three out tomorrow.

Church of the Larger Fellowship

Sharing a poem by Rev. Lynn Ungar, Church of the Larger Fellowship's Minister of Lifespan Learning.

Pandemic. A poem by Rev. Lynn Ungar.

What if you thought of it
as the Jews consider the Sabbath— the most sacred of times?
Cease from travel.
Cease from buying and selling. Give up, just for now,
on trying to make the world different than it is.
Sing. Pray. Touch only those
to whom you commit your life.
Center down.

And when your body has become still, reach out with your heart.
Know that we are connected
in ways that are terrifying and beautiful. (You could hardly deny it now.)
Know that our lives
are in one another’s hands.
(Surely, that has come clear.)
Do not reach out your hands.
Reach out your heart.
Reach out your words.
Reach out all the tendrils
of compassion that move, invisibly,
where we cannot touch.

Promise this world your love--
for better or for worse,
in sickness and in health,
so long as we all shall live.

"It’s distressing to make decisions that have vast, nearly unimaginable consequences for the people we love," Rev. Erika Hewitt observes. "Moral decision-making hinges not on the 'I' and not even on the interconnected web of 'we,' but on the most fragile strands in the web.

As our leaders make tough decisions, our communities are being tested for their tolerance for uncertainty, as well as how much grace they choose to extend towards the leaders making those high-stakes but values-driven decisions."

"Figuring out that I have a very sensitive nervous system has helped me understand myself, including why I’ve struggled most of my life with seemingly ordinary tasks," writes Rev. Alix Klingenberg.

"We all have our foibles; pieces of ourselves that we both admire and occasionally revile. Maybe yours is a deep ability to see multiple sides of a situation, or a body or mind that doesn’t fit the narrow definition of 'typical.' It's often true that our weaknesses are also our greatest strengths, two sides of the same coin."
