[02/28/20]   You shall diligently keep the commandments of the Lord your God, His testimonies, and the ordinances He commanded you.
So you shall do what is pleasing and good before the Lord your God, that it may be well with you, and you may go in and inherit the good land the Lord swore to your fathers,
Deut. 6: 17-18

[02/27/20]   “And many peoples and many nations will come to seek out the presence of the Lord Almighty in Jerusalem and to obtain the favor of the presence of the Lord.’
Thus says the Lord Almighty, ‘In those days, if ten men from all the tongues of the nations stop you, even if they grab hold of the hem of a Jewish man, they will be saying, “We will go with you, for we heard God is with you.”
Zechariah 8:22-23

[02/25/20]   A prayer for wisdom

“Wash yourselves, make yourselves clean. Put away the evils from your souls before My eyes. Cease from your evils.
Learn to do good. Seek judgment and redeem the wronged. Defend the orphan and justify the widow.
Come now, and let us reason together,” says the Lord, “although your sins are like crimson, I shall make them white like snow, and although they are as scarlet, I shall make them white like wool.”

Happy Feast of the Ascension

“Today our Lord Jesus Christ ascended into heaven; let our hearts ascend with him. Listen to the words of the Apostle: If you have risen with Christ, set your hearts on the things that are above where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God; seek the things that are above, not the things that are on earth. For just as he remained with us even after his ascension, so we too are already in heaven with him, even though what is promised us has not yet been fulfilled in our bodies.” St. Augustine

[03/19/19]   For this week, we must understand that the devil is coming after us like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour. The church prepares this week’s theme early on to remind us that even Christ Himself was tempted, and by using scripture, He was triumphant over Satan. So do not lose heart!

"If Satan had the courage to even tempt Our Lord, then how much more careful must we be? We, who are weak and made of dust must use all of the spiritual means that God has given to us to protect ourselves from the enemy in order to be able to overcome him. Sometimes we just let him take over completely and destroy us, we let evil thoughts enter our minds and enjoy them until they come to fruition. Look at how our Lord answered Satan each time, “It is written…” The word of God frightens Satan and protects us like a fortified city. We must put on the whole armor of God as Saint Paul also reminds us by saying, “Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.” (Ephesians 6:11)" - Bishop Suriel

Spiritual exercise:

Pick a verse from the Bible, and recall it whenever you are tempted to fall back toward what you have left behind. One such verse could be “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” (Phil. 4:13)

[03/11/19]   Dear beloved,

During this week, we are working to let go of what will hold us down during this journey. We are emptying ourselves from the love of the world so that we have room to allow Christ to enter. We are preparing ourselves so that on Sunday we can truly live the first gospel with the church by laying up treasures in Heaven and not on earth; seeking first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness.

“The journey begins from within, “go into your room”, search inside yourself. Look inwardly and see what is happening in your life. Close the door that leads you to death, and that is the corruption and immorality that is in the world. Spend time with God alone, in solitude, worship Him and prepare for your journey.” HG Bishop Suriel

Spiritual exercise:

This week, let’s find something or some things, however small, that we’ve been wanting to let go of. Let’s decide to dedicate this Great Fast to working on overcoming them with God’s mercy and His grace. Let’s take that first step into the journey and leave our nets

Liturgy is Friday morning 6:00 am to 8:00 am

Our Lord, Jesus Christ, glory and praise be to Him, to His good Father, and to the Paraclete, entered the holy temple, carried by his mother, forty days after His sacred birth. Joseph, the righteous, came with Mary, the Mother of Christ, and completed the Law for Jesus, the Boy and the Saviour.
DOXOLOGY OF OUR LORD’S ENTRY INTO THE TEMPLE

[02/04/19]   Abba Anthony the great said, ‘I saw the snares that the enemy spreads out over the world and I said groaning, “What can get through from such snares?” Then I heard a voice saying to me, “Humility.”‘

[02/03/19]   Abba Poemen said of Abba John the Dwarf that he had prayed God to take his passions away from him so that he might become free from care. He went and told an old man this: ‘I find myself in peace, without an enemy,’ he said. The old man said to him, ‘Go, beseech God to stir up warfare so that you regain the affliction and humility that you used to have, for it is by warfare that the soul makes progress.’ So he besought God and when warfare came, he no longer prayed that it might be taken away, but said, ‘Lord, give me strength for the fight.’
