St. James Cathedral School, Orlando

St. James Cathedral School is an educational ministry of St. James Catholic Cathedral. We are a school committed to outstanding academic and spiritual development of all students in a safe and stimulating learning environment.

PreK - 8th Grade. Located in the beautiful heart of downtown Orlando, Florida and just steps away from Lake Eola, St. James Cathedral School has been dedicated to academic excellence and educational ministry since 1928. Founded on the philosophy “Come to Learn. Leave to Serve.”, our catholic education lineage has strengthened through generations that grow our alumni family every year. Accredited through the Florida Catholic Conference, our students from Pre-Kindergarten through 8th Grade experience an education that goes beyond the typical classroom. Students benefit from tailored teacher-to-student ratios that keep the classroom settings personable to cutting-edge technology and spiritual enrichment. All of which embraces a child-centered teaching and curriculum that encourages each child to experience, discover and evolve. James Cathedral School is committed to helping every child realize their full academic and spiritual path and sets them on course. Our foundation is one that blends education, spiritual discovery and mentorship together in a safe and stimulating environment. Through a devoted and nurturing community, our students are prepared for later years in life, inspired by the love and stewardship of Jesus Christ. Come take a peek at how technology, Language Arts, and Social Studies are integrated in our Panther classrooms! 5th grade students analyzed the poem “Paul Revere’s Ride” by Henry Wadsworth, identifying the literary elements of alliteration, onomatopoeia, and assonance. They then used an online presentation platform called Buncee to creatively share their findings.

Father Matthew had a powerful homily today based on the first reading about being “set apart.” Ask your Panther student why he brought fine dishes, and remember that each of us was set apart at our baptisms and God has a special purpose for us all. Come to Learn. Leave to Serve. #SJCSPANTHERFAMILY

Resurrection eggs may look like a regular dozen of plastic eggs but as the 4th grade learned they are not. Inside each egg is a symbol of the Easter story — a nail, a twig, a piece of cloth, a cracker, etc. The last egg being empty to represent the empty tomb.

Kindergarten and 1st grade classes had an Easter Egg Fitness Hunt during PE. They searched campus for an egg, opened the egg and did the exercise that was on the slip of paper! They had so much fun!

On this Good Friday may we never forget: “when he was on the cross, we were on his mind.” 6th grade students were reminded of this as they studied the Easter Triduum during Religion class. Remembering Jesus died at 3 pm on Friday, each 6th grader made a crucifix they can display.

Ms. Reitz’s religion class studied Leonardo DaVinci’s painting of the Last Supper. They heard the story of Jesus’ Last Supper with his disciples. Using the painting as a guide the students built a 3D model of the Last Supper. They will enjoy this craft with their families by displaying the model on their dining room table today on Holy Thursday.

Panther students participated in almsgiving this Lent to benefit our friends at Bishop Grady Villas (BGV) totaling $2000! Instead of our usual Fish Fry events in conjunction with the Cathedral Knights of Columbus council, SJCS students had two Dress-Down-for-a-Cause days and families donated generously for BGV.

PRAYER IS POWERFUL. Beginning on Ash Wednesday, each day, in every SJCS classroom, students have opened an Easter egg with the name of someone to pray for including fellow Panthers, parents, parishioners, grandparents, Chancery and Cathedral staff, and more. The individual was prayed for the whole day and a card was sent to them.

Middle School Monday! Our Panther students are studying, synthesizing, and applying their way to complete understanding of concepts! 8th grade invented toys that demonstrated how energy is transferred. 6th grade explored how the sun’s energy heats different surfaces.
