Good Monday morning. There seems to be so much around us causing stress, anxiety, and disrupting our ability to focus on the gifts we have. May you start this week in PEACE.

Pastor Pamella Sheffield will be available to administer the imposition of ashes on Ash Wednesday February 26 during these times:

7:30 am till 9 am
12:30 pm till 2 pm
5:30 pm till 7 pm

The basic meaning behind practice of imposition of ashes.

First, let’s address why ashes, and why the Pastor says “Repent, and believe the Gospel”.

Ashes signify our sorrow for the mistakes we have made. People in ancient times wore sackcloth and ashes as a way of expressing their repentance of their sins.

When Jonah reluctantly preached to the people of Nineveh after the giant fish spit him up on the beach, the King and his people put on sackcloth and sat in ashes. God saw this act of repentance and spared the people (Jonah 3:1-10).

In the New Testament Jesus mentions this practice. Warning the cities of Chorazin and Bethsaida Jesus said, "if the miracles done among you had been done in Tyre and Sidon, they would have changed their hearts and lives and put on funeral clothes and ashes a long time ago." (Matthew 11:21 CEB).

When we participate in the service of ashes, we confront our sin. We recognize our inability to live up to all God has created us to be, and our need to be forgiven. No matter how often we go to church, how far we have come in our spiritual journeys, how accomplished we may feel, each of us has sinned and fallen short of the glory of God (Romans 3:23).

The palms waved the previous Palm Sunday to welcome Jesus as our King, have been burned to form the ashes. In some sense, they serve as a reminder of how far we fall short of living up to the glory of Christ.

On the first day of Lent, we come before God recognizing our humanity and repenting of our sin.
…and believe the gospel

While this may sound fatalistic, it is not the end of the story. Lent leads to Easter, the day we celebrate that though our bodies are temporary and our lives are flawed, a day of resurrection will come when we will live in the presence of God forever.

One Wednesday every year we go to church remembering who we are, and hopeful of who we can be.

(The ashes we use at Ocoee Oaks UMC are from burning the dried palms from the previous year’s Palm Sunday.)

We will ONLY be open on Thursday, October 31st from 3:00 p.m.-5:00 p.m. We have some pumpkins left :)

Good evening all....we have had a few people contact us indicating their pumpkin has some rot :( PLEASE just snap a picture of you with your pumpkin and come on by for a replacement pumpkin (no need to bring us back the pumpkin). We do recommend you wait to carve your pumpkin until a few days before Halloween if you hope it is "fresh" for 10/31. Also please read and follow the pumpkin care tips you should have gotten when you purchased. We have had hot weather this week and pumpkins are vegetables and don't tend to like hot weather.

Good morning all! We still have pumpkins left. Just a reminder we did NOT get our 2nd shipment as planned so you may want to visit us today to ensure you have great inventory to choose from :) Hours today are 12:00 noon-7:30 p.m.

****Due to the forecast that indicates continuation of bad weather and winds in the 40 mph range, we have decided to close the patch for today. We apologize for any inconvenience, but our goal is for our visitors and volunteers to have a safe and positive patch experience. Sunday weather is looking great, so please come and see us tomorrow.****

[10/19/19]   **Due to the weather, thanks to Tropical Storm Nestor, and the tornado watch advisory that Orange county is under; the patch will not open at 10:00 a.m. as scheduled. We will re-evaluate the weather situation at noon when the tornado watch is expected to be lifted.** Stay tuned here for more information.

***Please read this post***

Good news- Not so good news.....

Good news-we have lots of beautiful pumpkins, our picture spots are amazing, and the weather is supposed to continue to be cooling down.

Not so good news-our pumpkin growers in Farmington, New Mexico experienced the worst hard freeze in 27 years last Thursday-Saturday. We have been notified they lost all 2 million pumpkins left in the fields, including our planned 2nd shipment that was to arrive on October 23rd. So what we have in the patch is what we have (and remember we still have lots). This is devastating for the growers and the pickers (most of whom are Navajo and depend on the picking season as their sole income for the year). PLEASE pray for the farmers, pickers, and all those impacted by this weather anomaly.

We cannot predict when we will run out of pumpkins, but based on prior year trends we might make it to next weekend, but no guarantees. {And when you buy it, be sure you read the tips in our handout about how to extend the life of your pumpkin}

We really appreciate all of our first week visitors to the patch! Feel free to leave a review and share photos. We have had some very positive feedback about the pictures spots and folks love to hear the story of how our pumpkins are a blessing X 3!!

Look who got a face lift this morning? Many families have pictures through the years that feature this very large recycled round table top. Well the paint is drying and it will be at our entrance to the patch later today!!!

Our pictures spots are starting to take shape and we expect to start mini hay rides next weekend.

And the pumpkins arrived! We had the help of an entire football team. Huge shout out to Legacy High School Eagles for hitting the pumpkin patch instead of the gridiron today. 2,600 pumpkins got unloaded in just over 2 hours. Come see us tomorrow, we open at 3 p.m. {Please note our picture spots will still be 'under construction/design' for the next few days}.

Our pumpkin -truck driver is on track to arrive as scheduled. HOWEVER, it is looking like our awesome pumpkin unloaders might be unloading in the rain. Please pray for the safety of the driver coming all the way from Farmington, New Mexico and for the safety of our team who will be unloading an ENTIRE semi-truck full of pumpkins tomorrow. And then come see us Thursday when we open at 3 p.m.

The pumpkin patch is scheduled to open on Thursday, October 10th. We are open weekdays 3:00 p.m.-7:30 p.m., Saturdays 10:00 a.m.-7:30 p.m., and Sundays 12:00 noon-7:30 p.m.

We hope to see you Saturday the 8th beginning at 9:00.
