Hey Everyone. This is Yusuf Cisse, the president of the Muslim Students' Association (MSA) in CSI. I would like to share an event that the MSA is having tomorrow, December 1 in 1P-room 223. We will have guest speaker Mohammed Almathil give a discussion about Proactive vs. Reactive. He will start the talk at 3:30pm, but please join us at 2:30pm, as we will be serving food and have a couple of announcements for you. Here's a short description of the event.

"What happens when you don't get the outcome you initially wanted? How do you react? And do you simply react? Or are you proactive?"

Spread the word to you friends and family members. And if you can please share this on Facebook on your personal timelines, that would be wonderful. Hope to see you there!! Peace be upon you!

[02/05/16]   Salamu Alaykum brothers and sisters, tomorrow, Friday February 5th, 2016 after 10th period in room 303B will be our weekly Jumu'ah/Friday prayers. People of all religions are welcome to attend.

Come connect with your brothers and sisters, gain valuable knowledge, grow your religiosity, etc.
The topic for this Friday's sermon will be purpose.
Invite all of your friends to attend! Also tag your friends and invite them to this group.

[10/07/15]   Salamu Alaykum (peace be unto you), founded in 2008, the Muslim Club has been consistent on one message, to show the true beauty of Islam by spreading positive awareness and eliminating any misconceptions about Islam.

This Thursday, 10/8 after 9th period in room 304, we will be holding our FIRST ever meeting of the year. Come along and meet new people, introduce yourselves and enjoy some nice snacks. We will discuss leadership positions and what this club is all about, all the things we do, etc. (Remember, you get school service credit if you show up).

This is an open club for both Muslims and Non-Muslims, basically all people who believe in ending stereotypes and want to get involved and organize activities such as events, parties and games for the community (which is great for college). This is more of an activism club than a religious one.

Finally, this Friday 10/9 after 9th period in room 304, we will have our first Friday prayers (Jum'uah) of the year. We have Friday prayers every single Friday since students can't go to the mosque on our holy day.

Invite all of your friends, we are having a competition to see who can refer the most members and at the end of the year, the top winners get a prize. Come tomorrow to learn more.

[09/25/15]   Warriors, hope to see everyone at our Eid-ul Adhaa get together, be sure to be there by 4.

09/23/2015

Peace be upon you all, The CHS MSA is proud to announce that this Friday the 25th is our fourth annual Eid Party. The word Eid in Arabic means feast and it's a holiday that us Muslims celebrate to commemorate Abraham's obedience to God's commands. So this Friday, you are all invited to celebrate with us in the teacher's cafeteria at 3:45 (10th period). The celebrations will go on for hours. We will have music, party games, and ethnic food from around the world cooked by students. The best part: it's FREE! So invite all your friends and come party with us.

The reason we made this an annual tradition is so the students here at Curtis can see what us Muslims and our religion are all about: peace and communion. So can't wait to see you there.

[09/23/15]   Eid-UL Adhaa get together this Friday; 3:45, at the teachers cafe. Free admissions and we will have amazing activities and food from all over the world. Warriors do come, you'll have a wonderful time 😄

RAMADAN MUBARAK EVERYONE!! I know that this Ramadan, just like the past 6 Ramadans at least, is very long. 16 hours without eating or drinking. But this is actually a good thing not just for your soul, but for your body. Check out this poster down here, courtesy of Dr. Zakir Naik.

[05/13/15]   Obligatory soccer meeting tomorrow for all soccer players in room 303A after 9th period. All soccer players and board members must attend. If you can't come 9th then come 10th. Thank you.

MashaAllah (Whatever God wills), our annual CURTIS High School spring Fling was amazing. We were able to raise money for the individuals affected by the earthquake in Nepal, and had a wonderful time. Our hennah station was a success, and our sisters have done a wonderful job. Our brothers have worked hard to organize this as well, and inshaAllah (God willing) we are looking forward to the soccer tournament. 😊

Dr. Omar Event 04/29/2015

Salamu Alaikum. To start off, we are simply astonished at the turnout of this event. If we were to guess, it would be twice as much as last week. That being said, we would like to thank Dr. Omar for talking about the topic of "Who are you?". We would especially like to thank all the non-Muslims that came to this event for making this one of the most diverse, both ethnically and spiritually, club at Curtis.
As always, we had all the foods that youths crave: pizza, chips and juice. Thank you to ALL that came and learned about the true beauty of our religion, especially the non-Muslims once again. Because not only did you come to a religious event that you did not believe in out of respect or any other reason, but you've helped eliminate misconceptions and raised awareness on how things aren't always as they are portrayed in the media, etc. thus spreading the truth.

PS: Be sure to come to our weekly lecture this friday after 9th period to spread peace and unity, InshaAllah (God willing).

04/14/2015

Salamu Alaikum! Brothers and sisters we are happy to announce to you that guest speaker Md Hasan will be giving us a lecture on Tuesday, April 21st, after 9th period in room 303A. The lecture will be about time management and addiction, two issues that are facing youths today, so it's made just for you.

There will be pizza and drinks offered free of charge and afterwards, we'll take a nice group picture to post on Instagram so your mothers will be proud, lol. All are welcome to attend, especially non-Muslims. It is recommended that you invite your friends to come as well. InshaAllah this will be a great lecture.

PS: We want an estimate of the amount of people that will come so if you are planning to come or you think you're coming, PLEASE comment below.

[04/11/15]   "And they give food in spite of love for it to the needy, the orphan, and the captive, [Saying], "We feed you only for the countenance of Allah . We wish not from you reward or gratitude. We only fear a Day of distressful Wrath from the side of our Lord." So Allah will protect them from the evil of that Day and give them radiance and happiness." (Quran 76:8-11)

This is one of the many verses of the Quran that deals with generosity and compassion. It is highlighted in this verse that Muslims are encouraged to feed those less fortunate such as orphans, those in need such as the homeless, and the prisoners although they may love what they give with great love.

Not only that, but they feed them only to seek the pleasure and love of God and not to gain any fame, to show off, or expect anything back from them. Because if you give someone a gift and expect something back from them, that's not a gift, that is a business transaction. The reason for this is because a gift is something which is given to somebody else out of compassion and love from the person giving it.

The purpose for why I showed you this verse is so that people can see that Islam is a religion of compassion and love, a religion that values the lives of individuals no matter their wealth or race. Unfortunately, the sensationalist media today paints a different picture which does not represent the vast majority of Muslims around the world.

As Malcolm X, may God have mercy on him once said, "“The media's the most powerful entity on earth. They have the power to make the innocent guilty and to make the guilty innocent, and that's power. Because they control the minds of the masses.”

The purpose of this club is to change the evil picture which the media portrays about us Muslims and our religion Islam. Non-Muslims are welcome in our club and will be treated with dignity. We meet Fridays in room 303A, feel free to come and hang out with us.

04/08/2015

Said from a prominent civil rights leader, Malcolm X. May God have mercy on him. Unfortunately, many people mistake Islam for racism nowadays. In reality however, Islam is not racist at all. One of the first converts to Islam was a man by the name Bilal Ibn Rabbah whom was a prominent black companion and was well respected. He was tortured for believing in Islam and was saved by the Muslims. Our Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon him) said in his last sermon

“ All mankind is from Adam and Eve, an Arab has no superiority over a non-Arab nor a non-Arab has any superiority over an Arab; also a white has no superiority over a black nor a black has any superiority over a white - except by piety and good action. „ —(Hadith, Bukhari, Vol. 7, Ch. 3)

04/07/2015

The previous logo was very difficult for Arab speakers to read, though it was unique. Let us know what you think!

[03/28/15]   Rasul Allah (sal Allahu alaihi wa sallam) said: “Whoever does not argue when he is in the wrong will have a home built for him on the edge of Paradise. Whoever avoids it when he in the right will have a home built for him in the middle of Paradise. And whoever improves his own character, a home will be built for him in the highest part of Paradise.” [Tirmidhi]

Arguing with people is strongly discouraged in Islam. We are to state our point of view and then leave it at that. Nor are we to involve ourselves in matters that do not affect a person’s deen. Note that a person is to shun argument whether he is in the right or whether his stand is wrong. Both get houses built for them in Paradise. But since the person who knows that he is right finds it more difficult to leave the argument and let things be, he/she is promised a greater reward.

Arguing with people rarely gets anyone to change their minds. It usually only produces defensiveness and creates ill feelings between people. The issue becomes a matter of one’s ego and makes it more difficult for a person to change their stance. Allah (subhana wa ta’ala) loves to have Muslims live harmoniously with each other. Try this hadith out in practice, and you will see that your relations improve with people and that you have greater peace of mind.

[03/19/15]   Salam brothers and sisters, come tomorrow for a very important khutba (sermon). In that khutba we will discuss the consequences and benefits of forgiving others and we might talk about nationalism. InshaAllah, it won't be a lame last minute sermon because we as a club are progressing to perfect our mission.

All are welcome including our non-Muslim brothers and sisters.

Also tomorrow, we will showcase our new shirt and hoodie for the club. Afterwards, if you are interested in purchasing them, we will buy them.

InshaAllah and have a peaceful day.

[03/06/15]   Assalamu Alaikum Wa Rahmatullahi Wabarakatuhu!
"Beloved Youth! the first piece of advice I have for all of you is the Advice that Allah SWT has delivered to us all and that is TaqwAllah." If you would like to hear more about this, then feel free and join us for our weekly Friday Prayer tomorrow 10th period, room 303A. In Sha Allah, the topic we hope to tackle is one directed towards the youth. Hope to see you there. Salam

[02/13/15]   Assalamu Alaikum! In Sha Allah, today we will indeed have our Friday prayer for those who are not able to go to the mosque today because of school. Today's khutbah will be about roles and how they are essentially important to maintain. See you there. Salam!
