The Session has temporarily suspended worship and office hours in response to the pandemic. It is our prayer that you will be able to find materials on our page that will bring you comfort, laughter and peace. We hope to worship together soon.
First Presbyterian Church of Mt. Sterling is a church for folks who don't have it all together. A church for those who wrestle with big questions. A church that seeks out the mystery of God in Jesus Christ. Take some time to look around and discover the many ways we are doing ministry in Christ’s name. We are a part of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) and the Presbytery of Transylvania. As a people of faith, we strive to bear witness to the Gospel through worship, fellowship, and community outreach. Wherever you are on life’s journey, you are welcome at First Presbyterian. So come and share in this Good News.
Mission: To bear witness to the Gospel through worship, fellowship, and community outreach.

A story I might have used puppets for, if I had puppets, and four arms, and thought of voices... it's probably better that I didn't have puppets.
After much prayerful deliberation, the Session of 1st Presbyterian Church has voted to suspend in-person worship until two conditions are met. 1) That the Governor's Executive Order expires/is removed & 2) The Session shall meet and determine an appropriate action at that time.
Access to the building is limited to necessary church business/missions & emergencies only. Other agencies that use the facilities will be informed when the building will be available to them.
Thank you - and may God's grace & Peace be with you.
From one of the elders...
"Local Facebook friends, some of you have been able to work from home, resulting in a steady flow of income. You may also qualify for part of the stimulus package
I ask those of you who fall into that category to consider how much money you are saving on gas, salon visits, by not eating out every day or indulging in a Starbucks like drink. I urge you to consider giving some of that savings to your church, the Sterling Food Coalition (food pantry), the Post Clinic, Hope Hill Youth Services, the Family Resource Centers at our local schools, or some other entity that helps in our community. Because it is difficult for us to volunteer at this time, it is important to empower our community partners with resources to serve where needed."
A service of witness to the Resurrection of our Lord including an opportunity to gather around each of our tables at home. Feel free to participate as the Spirit Guides you and if you wish to share in the bread and the cup you are, as if we were in the Sanctuary of our Lord, welcome.
Worship open to the public @ 9am
Fellowship via Zoom @ 10:30am
The final edit/upload of Easter Morning's Offering of Worship including a remembrance around the table is finished, uploaded and scheduled. As we seek to maintain our connection, we invite others whom we do not know to join us. The Offering of Worship will be available to the public at 9am.
We will also feature a time of fellowship at 10:30 using the Zoom capabilities (if you are not currently on the mailing list, please IM me with your email and I will see that you are included).
Regardless of your level of participation, may God's blessings be upon you and your house.
Worship based around the "forgeigner" within our current context.
Devotional #26 in our Pandemic Response in which it becomes evident that Rob is taping these in advance and has absolutely NO CLUE what day it is.
We are in an "extraordinary" time, living through an "historical" event, but we have moved past the initial shock, hopefully we're grieving, but also accepting and adapting to the circumstances at hand. In other words, past "survive" and looking forward to a way to "thrive."
In short, rather than praying, "Oh my God how are we going to get back to normal?" We have the time to ask, "Oh my God, how are you going to move us forward?"
Because of that shift, I am announcing the following new schedule.
Sundays: Zoom Sunday School @10.30
Mondays: research & recording.
Tuesdays: research & contact.
Wednesdays: contact & Zoom @ Noon.
Thursdays: research & recording.
Fridays are appointment-only contact.
Saturday is the Sabbath - you have my permission to keep it Holy.
The video Devotionals will be posted on Sundays, Tuesdays, and Fridays. And the time devoted to them will be devoted to exploring our shared call.
Church members know my email, private phone and other ways to contact. Now is the time to learn to reach out if need be.
Remember we ate now looking forward to looking back.
I hope this message found you well, and leaves you blessed. May God's grace and peace be with you.
