Show me your friends & I’ll show you your future. This is one of the most powerful statements you’ll hear during your young adult years. The people you spend time with, the friends that you talk & hangout with most will give you a glimpse into your future...
That statement will either make you grateful or worried, you see the friends we spend time with matter. The people we hangout with guide our decision making whether we’d like them to or not.
Scripture says, “Do not be deceived: Bad company corrupts good character”, in 1 Corinthians 15:33, or, “The one who walks with the wise will become wise, but a companion of fools will suffer harm.” (Proverbs 13:20)
Take a moment & reflect on the company you keep, is it time to take a leap of faith & find new friends... To search out for new friendships that are rooted in faith & kindness. Or, do the friends you have now guide, challenge & encourage you towards Jesus in wonderful ways!
I get it, friends matter and change can be scary, but consider the goodness & impact it will have to pick friends that will lead & encourage you towards Jesus & to be better! Consider how greatly you will value the person God created you to be through protecting your heart, soul, & mind! Show me your friends and I’ll show you your future.
Good Morning SGY Fam,
Today’s words of wisdom are from Kennedy King, 11th grade, she shares with us what God is revealing to her lately, check it out:
Over Spring Break, I went on the Tampa, Florida mission trip that most of you have heard about. I remember that week I could just feel God’s presence. Whether we were out serving or debriefing from the long day, I always felt a sense of peace that I knew was the Holy Spirit. One reason I think that was because every morning we had our own, personal quiet time. It was a time I could really dig into the word and talk to God. Coming home, I made a promise to God and myself to make my quiet time a priority in my life. I told myself I’d have to wake up earlier before school to do this. When we got back and everything shut down, I was actually relieved. I now had time to get into a routine where my quiet time could become a major part of my life.
I’ve now gone through a couple of studies, but one I just finished up was called, “My Identity is in Christ.”
In this plan, it gave 30 truths about our identity in Christ and a scripture that went along with it. I feel like this plan was so eye opening to me. Yes, there were truths that I hear all the time like, “I am God’s Masterpiece,” and, “I am healed by His stripes.” Those are so very true, but growing up in the church I’ve heard those so many times. However, there were many truths about my identity that I’d never heard or thought about before. One of them that really stuck out to me was, “I am rejoiced over.” In Zephaniah 3:17, it says, “The Lord your God is with you, the Mighty Warrior who saves. He will take great delight in you; in his love he will no longer rebuke you, but will rejoice over you with singing.”
I love this because it’s saying that God is always with us. In fact, he takes delight in us. Like, He takes pleasure in us and our presence. It also says He rejoices over us with singing. The God of the Universe sees us and sings over us! I know in my own life, I sometimes don’t feel worthy of His songs. However, when we come back to Him, He is filled with joy and sings!
So throughout all of these truths I realized something that I hadn’t before. In all of my journal entries I made about each truth, they all tied back to the truth, “God loves me.” Overall, He takes delight in us and calls us valuable because of how much He loves us. We are His masterpiece because he loves us and sees us as beautiful. We are healed by His stripes because God loves us so much that he sent His only son to die for our sins (John 3:16). We are rejoiced over, because He loves us and through Jesus sees us as worthy of being sung over.
To close, I feel like I should quote some of our favorite childhood vegetables because I couldn’t have said it better myself. So in the words of our beloved Veggietales characters, “Remember kids: God made you special, and he loves you very much:)”
Good Morning SGY Family,
In being in our Sabbath series we have been talking about rest, of how God purposefully designed rest into our lives because He knew what we needed! Sabbath was created for man— for us— not man for the Sabbath because work is good but rest is needed. As social distancing continues on into the start of Summer, in a couple of weeks, we want to challenge you to intentionally find ways that YOU are going to rest in God!
In what ways are you going to spend time with God & make Him your priority? How are you going to refuel you body, soul & mind in Jesus, who is the only one who can truly give us rest & help us carry our burdens…?
Think it through & make a plan, then share with us how you are practicing the Sabbath by posting pictures with the #SGYSabbath.
We love you all, keep going & know that we can’t wait to see you soon!

Hello SGY Fam,
Today Kaylee Erdwurm, 8th grade, shares what God is teaching her through this time, check it out! It’s pretty great!
During this time God has revealed so many things to me. Throughout the year life gets so hectic with sports and school, it gets hard to find time to sit down and dig into God’s word. When I heard school was closing it was sort of a relief. Then, as we started quarantine I got to sit down and dig more into God’s word, as I read through my bible I came across the verse John 14:27 “my peace I give you, I do not give you as the world gives you. Do not let you heart be troubled and do not be afraid”.
As I sat down and thought about this verse I thought what if God is using this pandemic to show us we care to much about worldly things. 1 John 2:15 says, “do not love this world nor the things it offers to you, for when you love the world you do not have the love of the father in you.”
I thought, am I living life fully for God? We don’t need the things in the world to be fulfilled all we need is God. In the end none of the worldly things will matter. I am so glad God gave me this time to sit down and dig into His word. I know these times can be hard but the Bible says do not be afraid I am god and I am with you, god will never leave you.
I hope everyone stays safe and takes the times to sit down with God and see what He has to show you!!

Today Kaitlyn Joyner, 9th grade, shares with us how God has been moving in her life. You won’t want to miss it! We love you KJ!
“Oh my soul”- Casting Crowns.
This song has helped me through a lot of obstacles in my life, and today I have the honor of telling you guys one of them.
So when I first moved here in Midland I hated it. I hated it because I was finally making close friends where I used to live and I didn’t want to start over, but I had to start over. That is when my life turned upside down. I felt alone. I thought the friends I was hanging out with at school were going to be my friends forever, and we would go places and hangout. Then noticed they would go somewhere and I wasn’t invited. This was happening 5-8 grade. I had no one.
The beginning of my 9th grade year I was over it. I was tired of being left out, being ignored by people I never thought would ignore me. I just busted out crying at SGY. I was saying “I’m done.” Over and over again. I wanted nothing to do with anyone. I was so broken inside that I didn’t know what to do. But right after talking with someone about how I was feeling , I felt so relieved. Like, I felt myself for the first time in 4 years. Because God showed me all I needed to do was put my life in His hands and he will help you through it. So right now, I’m thinking about starting over again, but this time, I know I have someone to help me through it.
So the reason why I shared this today is even when you think you are alone, you aren’t. GOD IS WITH YOU ALWAYS! Never forget that.
Happy Thursday SGY Fam!
Today Bryanna Joyner, 11th grade, shares with us what God has been teaching and reminding her of during this time, check it out!
During this time of great uncertainty, God has really tugged at my heart and has reminded me about how important having faith really is.
In 2015, my dad unexpectedly lost his job in the oil field and was without a job for 10 months before we as a family moved to Midland. 10 months of only a little money, a barely running car, and 6 stomachs to feed. It was very stressful and at times, I would doubt and second guess God’s plan for my family. Only now I can look back and see how gracious and wonderful our God is. Even with little money, every bill that came our way was paid in full and on time. Our barely running car lasted months AFTER we moved and we never missed a meal and was always left with a little more. Like howwww??
Our God is in control of EVERYTHING. He sees the bigger picture and knows all things. Even 5 years later, I read Isaiah 43:2 to remind myself about how faith in his plan changed my perspective not only in the world, but in my walk with him. As I listen to “Seasons” by Hillsong Worship, there’s one line that hits home, “Then if you’re not done working, God I’m not done waiting,” and boy does that hold truth!
I hope that by this, people can feel reassured that God is working, even when we can’t see it!
It is our hope to come alongside you, especially during this COVID-19 season, to raise up our students to know the praiseworthy deeds of the Lord (Psalm 78:4) together. We hope you will tune in to the SGY message this evening at 7:00 PM as we begin our Sabbath series, in hopes that the truths that are shared on Wednesday night can be revisited at home throughout the week!
Please don’t hesitate to drop a message in our inbox if we can assist you in any way!
