1. God loves you more than you know

2. Sin is wretched and egregious. Don’t excuse it or ignore it.

3. If someone hurts your feelings, get over it. Don’t give them control over your life.

4. Your relationship with God is immeasurably more important than any other relationship.

SUNDAY MORNING REFLECTIONS: “How To Love Your Neighbor” .. Luke 10:25-37

“25- And behold, a certain lawyer stood up, and tempted him, saying, Master, what shall I do to inherit eternal life? 26- He said unto him, What is written in the law? How readest thou? 27- And he answering said, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy strength, and with all thy mind; and thy neighbor as thy self. 28- And He said unto him thou hast answered right: this do and thou shalt live. 29- But he, willing to justify himself, said unto Jesus, And who is my neighbor? 30- And Jesus answering said, A certain man went down from Jerusalem to Jericho, and fell among thieves, and stripped him of his raiment, and wounded him, and departed, leaving him half dead. 31- And by chance there came down a certain priest that way: and when he saw him, he passed by on the other side. 32- And likewise a Levite, when he was at the place, came and looked on him, and passed by on the other side. 33- But a certain Samaritan, as he journeyed, came where he was: and when he saw him, he had compassion on him, 34- And went to him, and bound up his wounds, pouring in oil and wine, and set him on his own beast, and brought him to an inn, and took care of him. 35- And on the morrow when he departed, he took out two pence, and gave them to the host, and said unto him, Take care of him; and whatever thou spendest more, when I come again, I will repay thee. 36- Which now of these three, thinkest thou, was neighbor unto him that fell among thieves? 37- And he said, he that shewed mercy on him. Then said Jesus, Go, and do thou likewise.”

I am doing something today that I have never done in that I am preaching two messages from this text, one, for this post, and the other in my Sunday morning sermon. Here on this post, I am looking at the text on who is our neighbor as Jesus gave it, but in my sermon, we will be looking at this text as an allegory taking the people and the experiences and applying them to Jesus Christ and one’s salvation.

This parable came about because the lawyer asks Jesus, “And who is my neighbor?” Your neighbor is more than that man, woman, or family that lives next door. He is that one who lives around the world and is despised by the majority, that one who works beside you, that one who is unlovely; that one who is your boss on the job, and that one who is in your family, an aunt, an uncle or a cousin. Jesus lets us know, all men are your neighbors. How should we love them?

Here are four areas to work within loving our neighbors.

1- LOVE ..... Your Neighbor ... UNCONDITIONALLY .. Vs. 27 ...... “Love .. thy neighbor as thy self.”

Unconditional love is hard to come by because we carry so much prejudice in our hearts. The answer the lawyer gave to Jesus was the Ten Commandments (Exodus 20:3-17) broken out into two parts. The first four commandments have to do with our relationship with God and the second six has to do with our relationship with man. The lawyer said to love God first and then your neighbor as yourself. If we love God first, then the second part that has to do with others will be easier to perform. “LOVE” is the key to any successful relationship; “By this shall all men know that you are my disciples if you have LOVE one to another.” (John 13:35)

2- ASSIST ... Your Neighbor ... UNPREJUDICED ......... Vs’s 33, 34 “A certain Samaritan .. went to him and bound up his wounds, pouring in oil and wine, and set him on his own beast, and brought him unto an inn, and took care of him.”

Jesus made a point of inserting a despised half breed Jew called a Samaritan into the story because the orthodox Jew hated Samaritans who had intermarried with the Gentiles. Of the priest, the Levite, and the Samaritan, of the three which one stopped to help this wounded half-dead man lying on the side of the road; the despised Samaritan! It was he who gave assistance when the Jews passed by on the other side of the road leaving him to die. Jesus is teaching us how we are to love them, and to assist those in need, no matter their station in life.

3- SERVE .... Your Neighbor ... UNRESERVEDLY .......... Vs. 35 ..... “He took out two pence, and gave them to the host, and said unto him, take care of him.

The Good Samaritan spared no expense in helping his patient recuperate from his injuries. Twopence or two denari was the average wage for a laborer for two days' wages. (Matt.20:2) It was enough to feed 25 men a meal apiece. It was sufficient for the care of the injured man and if that was not enough then there was the Samaritans promise to pay for anything else needed beyond the two pence. Jesus taught the thing that constitutes greatness in His kingdom is SERVICE to others, and if you would really be great, become a slave to others. (Matthew 20:25-29)

4- SHOW .. Your Neighbor ... UNPRECEDENCE ......... Vs’s 36-37 “Which of these three thinkest thou was neighbor unto him that fell among thieves? And he said, he that shewed mercy on him. Then Jesus said unto him, Go and do thou likewise.”

We are to be unprecedented in showing the love of Jesus, “Go and do thou likewise!” The Spirit of Christ dwells in us; the image of Christ is renewed in us and sets forth for us the love of Christ for the kindness and love of God our Saviour toward miserable, sinful men so marred by Satan himself. We are challenged in this parable to love our enemies and to do good to them that despitefully use us. No man will ever love his neighbor without the grace of God and the love of God dwelling in his own heart first. Christian friend, we are to set the precedence and let the world see Christ in us as we love our neighbor. Amen? Amen!

Prayer: Father I fail you daily in demonstrating the love of God for others. Help me to love the unlovely about me as you do, and see all men as my neighbor.

SUNDAY MORNING REFLECTIONS: “Adoration For The Unseen Saviour” .. I Peter 1:8-9

“Whom having not seen, (Jesus Christ) ye love; in whom, though now ye see Him not, yet believing, ye rejoice with joy unspeakable and full of glory: Receiving the end of your faith, even the salvation of your souls.”

I have never seen Jesus Christ with the physical eye, but like millions of others before me and those around me, I have seen Him with the eye of faith. The Bible tells us of the substance of faith, “Now faith is the substance (Confidence) of things hoped for, the evidence (Conviction) of things not seen.” (Hebrews 11:1)

We that are “Yet Believing,” have exercised faith in the unseen Lord; though we have never felt the touch of His physical hand, by faith we have felt His presence very near. And though we have never heard His audible voice, yet through His Spirit we have heard Him say, I love you. Yes, we rejoice with joy unspeakable full of glory, receiving the end of our faith, even the salvation of our souls.

Let me share three areas of response to the unseen Saviour.

1- We Ought To .. LOVE ... This Unseen Saviour

Why should we love this unseen Saviour? In (I John 4:19) we are told, “We love Him because He first loved us.” The amazing fact about God is that He loved us while we were yet sinners. The Bible says, “But God commendeth His love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.” (Romans 5:8) God loved us at a time when we did not love Him; beloved that was me, there was a time when I did not love God, I did not love His church, I did not love Gods people, and I did not love the gospel of Jesus Christ, but God loved me despite my sinful rebellion. We ought to love Him today because he has forgiven the sins of our heart and the rebellion of our souls. We ought to love Him because He has in MERCY withheld our judgment and in GRACE he has given us eternal life so that we may live with Him forever. “For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: It is the gift of God.” (Ephesians 2:8) Oh, love Him because He has brought peace to your heart!

2- We Ought To .. LIVE .... For This Unseen Saviour

Why should we live for this unseen Saviour? Where much is received much is given; I am thinking of a story of a young and beautiful slave girl who was auctioned at the slave market. She was angry and defiant against the wickedness and cruelty of men. One man in particular paid handsomely for the right to own her upon whom she spat and fought defiantly. But to her surprise he handed her, her papers, saying, I bought you to set you free! The young woman fell at His feet and said I will serve you forever. The Bible tells us, “We are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are Gods.” (I Corinthians 6:20) He is simply telling us to live for God the Son who paid the ransom that you and I might go free. (Romans 3:24) We are to LIVE soberly, righteously, and godly in this present world. (Titus 2:11-12)

3- We Ought To .. LOOK .. For This Unseen Saviour

The first coming of the Lord Jesus is well documented through the Holy Scriptures for the redemption of our souls on Calvary’s cross, but the second coming of Jesus in the air will be for the redemption of our bodies as Paul outlines in I Thessalonians 4:13-18. “For our conversation is in heaven, FROM WHENCE ALSO WE LOOK FOR THE SAVIOUR, the Lord Jesus Christ: who shall change our vile body, that it may be fashioned like unto His glorious body, according to the working whereby He is able even to subdue all things unto Himself.” (Philippians 3:20-21) Two heavenly beings stood at the assention of Jesus into heaven and said to those watching, “THIS SAME JESUS which is taken up from you into heaven, shall so COME IN LIKE MANNER, as ye have seen Him go into heaven;” (Acts 1:11) “And now little children (Christians) abide in Him; THAT WHEN HE SHALL APPEAR, we may have confidence, and not be ashamed BEFORE HIM AT HIS COMING.” (I John 2:28) We ought to be LOOKING for Jesus return! Amen? Amen!

Prayer: Lord most merciful God, thank you for being my Saviour and Salvation. Help me to give you my love, life, and to look for your return for my full redemption.

[05/03/20]   Verse of the day:
Romans 12:12:
rejoicing in hope, patient in tribulation, continuing steadfastly in prayer;

[05/02/20]   Verses of the day:
1 John 5:14-15:
14) Now this is the confidence that we have in Him, that if we ask anything according to His will, He hears us. 15) And if we know that He hears us, whatever we ask, we know that we have the petitions that we have asked of Him

[05/01/20]   Verse of the day:
Hebrews11:6:
But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.

[04/29/20]   Verse of the day:
Jb19:25:
For I know that my Redeemer lives, And He shall stand at last on the earth;

[04/28/20]   Verses of the day:
Philippians 2:5-8:
5) Let this mind be on you which was also in Christ Jesus, 6) who, being in the form of God, did not consider it robbery to be equal with God, 7) but made Himself of no reputation, taking the form of a bondservant, and coming in the likeness of men. 8) And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross.
