Verse of the day. John 15:10. If you keep My commandments, you will abide in My love, just as I have kept My Father's commandments and abide in His love.
Verse(s) of the Day Philippians 2:9-11 Therefore God also has highly exalted Him and given Him the name which is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on earth, and of those under the earth, and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
Verse of the Day Matthew 4:4 But He answered and said, "It is written, 'Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.' "

Cuthbert Avenue is a Bible-believing, Christ-centered church. We sing the old hymns. Everyone here is family. And we celebrate God’s sovereignty and his love for us.

SUNDAY MORNING REFLECTIONS: “The Cross of Christ” .. Luke 23:32-33 (April 12th, 2020)

“And there were also two other male factors, led with Him (Jesus) to be put to death. And when they were come to the place, which is called Calvary, there, they crucified Him, and the malefactors, one on the right hand, and the other on the left.”

Allow me to quote that eloquent preacher of the past Dr. W. Herschel Ford who said of the cross of Jesus Christ, “Today we come to Calvary, CALVARY- the place of curse and the place of blessing; the place of curse for Jesus and the place of blessings for us; CALVARY- where we see man at his worst, and God at His best; CALVARY- where the Lamb of God was slain and where the Son of God gave up His life for you and me; CALVARY- where we see the awful depths of human sin and the tremendous heights of divine love; CALVARY- where every man must come if he expects to be saved; CALVARY- where all our hopes are centered, both for this world and the next.”

Three crosses silhouetted against the sky bear the bodies of three men condemned to die, two thieves occupy the right and the left crosses. The man in the middle is the spotless Son of God condemned by His enemies because His own perfect life condemned them. Now, their hate rises to devilish heights as they watch Him bleeding His life away. It is a strange thing Jesus is dying for their sins as well as yours and mine, such is divine love, a love that passes all understanding and reached out to the vilest of persons. “Because He hath poured out His soul unto death: and He was numbered with the transgressors; and He bare the sins of many, and made intercession for the transgressors.” (Isaiah 53:12)

Let us look at the Cross of Jesus Christ and a few facts of it.

1- There Is The .. REASON ............ For The Cross ... Hebrews 9:28

There is only one reason for the cross of Christ Jesus; upon it God offered up His Son an offering for our sins, “So Christ was once offered to bear the sins of many, and unto them that look for Him shall He appear the second time without sin unto salvation.” It was my sins and your sins that nailed Jesus to the cross; it was my hell and your hell that kept Jesus on the cross so that we the guilty might go free through His grace and atonement in His own blood to whosoever should believe in Him and His death.

2- There Is The .. REQUIREMENT .. Of The Cross ... I Corinthians 5:7b

The cross of Jesus Christ became an altar upon which Jesus the Lamb of God was sacrificed as a sin offering for the sins of the world, “For even Christ, our Passover is sacrificed for us.” God’s requirement for sins was high and it cost God the best He had in Jesus His Son to die as a Passover sacrifice. God said in Exodus 12:13, “And the blood shall be to you for a token upon the houses where ye are: and when I see the blood, I will pass over you, and the plague shall not be upon you to destroy you when I smite the land of Egypt.” In like manner when the blood of Jesus Christ is applied to the doorpost of your heart God will pass over you in judgment to them that are in Christ and under His blood (See Romans 8:1)

3- There Is The .. RANSOMED ....... Of The Cross ... I Timothy 2:6

“Who gave Himself a ransom for all, to be testified in due time.” Jesus paid the ransomed price for your redemption, to reclaim your soul from the bondage and shackles of sin and Satan who held you captive to the destruction of the soul. “But God commended His love toward us, in that while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.” (Romans 5:8) Your salvation from sin cost God something and Jesus paid the ransomed price for you! You and I are set free in Christ and Jesus said. “If I shall set you free you are free indeed.” (John8:36) If you do not accept Jesus' payment for you offered on the cross, then, you will spend all eternity paying a debt in hell you cannot pay. Your ransomed debt has been paid; Take it!

4- There Is The .. RESSURECTION .. After The Cross ... Acts 2:24

“(Jesus) Whom God hath raised up, having loosed the pains of death: because IT WAS NOT POSSIBLE THAT HE SHOULD BE HOLDEN OF IT.” The grave could not hold Him because of His divine PERSON; there was no sin in Him. Secondly, because of His divine POWER; He is the resurrection and the life. Thirdly, because of His PROMISE; Jesus said destroy this body and in three days I will raise it up again. Fourthly, of His divine PURPOSE; God intends that we should be with Him in heaven. Jesus rose from the grave to justify you from all sin, have you laid them on Him? Trust Him and be saved today! Amen? Amen!

Prayer: Father in heaven, I thank you for the cross of Christ your Son who gave Himself for me; thank you for saving my soul!

[04/12/20]   Verses of the day:
Luke 9:23-24 NKJ:
23) Then He said to them all, "If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow Me. 24) For whoever desires to save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for My sake will save it.

THE CRUCIFIXION: “For everyone has sinned; we all fall short of God’s glorious standard. Yet God, with undeserved kindness, declares that we are righteous. He did this through Christ Jesus.” (Romans 3:23-24) They made Jesus a crown of thorns, then mocked and whipped Him, spat on Him and cursed Him. And led Him away to be crucified. They nailed His hands and feet to the cross, and Jesus took on the sins of all creation—for you and me He endured this. Imagine how incredibly loved you are—that He who knew no sin would take on all your sin and die for you so you can live eternally.

JESUS’ DEATH: “Truly this was the Son of God!” (Matthew 27:54) Jesus called out, “Eloi, Eloi, lema sabachthanl?” which means, “My God, my God, why have You forsaken Me?” Then Jesus declared “It is finished” and breathed His last. The curtain in the Temple was torn in two. The Roman officer who stood facing Jesus saw how He had died and said, “Truly, this was the Son of God.” And He was! Who are we that the Lord would love us that much? Take a moment to thank Jesus for His amazing sacrifice.

[04/11/20]   Verse of the day:
1 Peter 2:24 NIV:
"He Himself bore our sins" in His body on the cross, so that we might die to sins and live for righteousness; "by His wounds you have been healed."

[04/10/20]   Verses of the day:
Romans 5:6-8 NIV:
You see, at just the right time, when we were still powerless, Christ died for the ungodly. Very rarely will a person die for the righteous person, though for a good person someone might possibly dare to die. But God demonstrates His own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.

[04/09/20]   Verse of the day:
Hebrews 1:3:
who being the brightness of His glory and the express image of His person, and upholding all things by the word of His power, when He had by Himself purged our sins, sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high,

[04/08/20]   Verse of the day:
Romans 5:10:
For if when we were enemies we were reconciled to God through the death of His Son, much more, having been reconciled, we shall be saved by His life.

[04/07/20]   Verse of the day:
Galatians 2:20:
I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me.

[04/06/20]   Verse of the day:
1 John 3:16:
By this we know love, because He laid down His life for us. And we also ought to lay down our lives for the brethren.

SUNDAY MORNING REFLECTIONS: “Palm Sunday With Jesus” .. Zechariah 9:9, Matthew 21:8-11 (Zech. 9:9)

“Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion; shout, O daughter of Jerusalem: behold the king cometh unto thee: He is just, and having salvation; lowly, and riding upon an ass, and upon a colt the foal of an ass.” (Matt. 21: 8-11) “8- And a very great multitude spread their garments in the way; others cut down branches from the trees, and strawed them in the way. 9- And the multitude that went before, and that followed, cried, saying, Hosanna (Save we pray thee!) to the Son of David: Blessed be He that cometh in the name of the Lord; Hosanna in the highest. 10- And when He was come into Jerusalem, all the city was moved, saying, Who is this? 11- And the multitude said, This is Jesus, the prophet of Nazareth of Galilee.”

The Christian and the church of the Lord Jesus Christ celebrate two major events in the life of Jesus, Christmas, the birth of Jesus, and the Resurrection of Jesus from the grave. Today, April 5th is Palm Sunday that marks Jesus' entry into Jerusalem and the week that He would die upon the Roman cross five days later on Friday of this week, and then to rise from the dead three days later on Sunday of the next week. My, an awful lot transpired during Palm Sunday week that changed the course of history and would bring about an explosion of converts to the Lord Jesus Christ that continues to this day. I as a saved man am one of those converts, believing in Jesus as the Saviour of my soul. How about you?

I would like to share four things with you about Palm Sunday with Jesus' entry into Jerusalem and spend some time with Him.

1- His Entry Was .. DETERMINED ... Zachariah 9:9 “... behold the King cometh...”

Around 553 years before Jesus made His entry into Jerusalem, Zechariah made his prophetic announcement of the event. Zechariah chapters nine, ten, and eleven have to do with Jesus first coming and his riding upon the colt of an ass into the city presenting Himself as King; only to be rejected by the leaders of Israel (John 1:11) and crucified in the same week. Every move Jesus made was calculated and orchestrated by God for one reason, your redemption from sin, judgment, and hell. The Apostle Peter tells us, “Him, (Jesus) being delivered by the DETERMINATE COUNSEL AND FOREKNOWLEDGE OF GOD, ye have taken, and by wicked hands have crucified and slain.” (Acts 2:23) How much does Jesus care for you today? Enough to give His life for your redemption and salvation; do not waste His love and sacrifice for you!

2- His Entry Was .. DELIBERATE ...... Isaiah 50:7 “...I set my face like a flint...”

“For the Lord God will help me; therefore shall I not be confounded: therefore have I set my face like a FLINT, and I know that I shall not be ashamed.” I am after the word, “flint” in this scripture which is prophetic of Jesus' deliberate act of going to Jerusalem on Palm Sunday to make His offering and sacrifice of Himself, the Just for the unjust; the righteous for the unrighteous that we might go free through Him. Jesus did not draw back from the cross that awaited Him, but deliberately, with determination set His face like a flint to accomplish God's will for the salvation of all men. “Then said I, Lo, I come to do thy will, O God....” (Hebrews 10:7a)

3- His Entry Was .. DEADLY ............ Mark 10:33-34 “...And shall kill Him..”

Jesus said unto His disciples, “Behold we go up to Jerusalem; and the Son of man shall be delivered unto the chief priests, and unto the scribes; AND THEY SHALL CONDEMN HIM UNTO DEATH, and shall deliver Him to the Gentiles. And they shall mock Him, and shall scourge Him, and shall spit upon Him, AND SHALL KILL HIM, and the third day He shall rise again.” These verses are graphic and explicit as to what awaited Jesus on Palm Sunday week and all of it happened just as He said it would. O, my friend, we cannot underestimate the Love of Jesus for the soul of sinners; for your soul and mine, Jesus died.

4- His Entry Was .. DEVOTED ......... Zachariah 9:9 “..Having Salvation..”

Jesus had you and me in His heart and mind when He entered into Jerusalem that Palm Sunday: His devotion to us sinners is still just as strong and vibrant as it ever was, “Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.” He said, “You are my friends if ye do whatsoever I command you.” (John15:13-14) Jesus has salvation to all that will devote their lives to Him in faith and trust. Are you devoted? Have you given your life to Him? He will keep you through the eternities. Why; Because He rose from the dead to justify us, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. Amen? Amen!

Prayer: Father in heaven, we celebrate Palm Sunday because Jesus was doing His utmost for our redemption and setting the stage for the cross and His resurrection.

[04/05/20]   Verses of the day:
2 Corinthians 5:14-15:
14) For the love of Christ compels us, because we judge thus: that if One died for all, then all died; 15) and He died for all, that those who live should live no longer for themselves, but for Him who died for them and rose again.

[04/04/20]   Verse of the day:
Ephesians 1:7:
In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of His grace

[04/03/20]   Verse of the day:
Hebrews 12:2:
looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.

[04/02/20]   Verses of the day:
Matthew 20:17-19:
17) Now Jesus, going up to Jerusalem, took the twelve disciples aside on the road and said to them, 18) "Behold, we are going up to Jerusalem, and the Son of Man will be betrayed to the chief priests and to the scribes; and they will condemn Him to death, 19) and deliver Him to the Gentiles to mock and to scourge and to crucify. And the third day He will rise again."

AMEN ! 💗

[04/01/20]   Verse of the day:
Psalm 14:1:
The fool has said in his heart,
"There is no God."
They are corrupt,
They have done abominable works,
There is none who does good.

[03/31/20]   Verses of the day:
Isaiah 53:5-6:
5) But He was wounded for our transgressions,
He was bruised for our iniquities;
The chastisement for our peace was upon Him,
And by His stripes we are healed.

6) All we like sheep have gone astray;
We have turned, every one, to his own way;
And the Lord has laid on Him the iniquity of us all.
