At 10:00 AM today, our family here at St. John Vianney bids farewell to a true servant, a loyal friend, a dedicated formator and an all around great guy. To the seminarians, thank you for all you have done to prepare for deacon's funeral today. It was a massive amount of work. He would've been so proud of you. Deacon Carlos, thank you for everything you have done for the men, but especially during the past year of the pandemic. You were so instrumental in protecting the young seminarians of St. John Vianney. Continue to look down upon them and pray for them. Till we meet again, good deacon.

JAN 23 2021 - Saturday of the Second Week in Ordinary Time
Today our seminary family mourns the loss of Deacon Carlos Garcia (shown here with his son, Fr. Michael Garcia, an alumnus of St. John Vianney and pastor of St. Coleman Catholic Church). Deacon Carlos was simply an amazing human being, a truly good man, a loving father, a devoted husband to his wife, a caring seminary formator and friend, a compassionate and hardworking minister, and a true disciple of Jesus Christ. Deacon, we are all blessed to have known you, to have worked with you, and to have journeyed with you on the path of ministry, serving, forming and educating God's future priests. We will miss you terribly, but we find consolation and peace in knowing that you who have so loved the Lord throughout your life, now rest in his embrace, and that we now have a powerful advocate and friend in His presence. Rest in peace, good deacon. Pray for us. Until we meet again in the Father's house. - Your loving family at St. John Vianney.
Today, January 11, 2021, St. John Vianney, the only freestanding bilingual college seminary in the United States, begins another exciting phase in its history as it becomes not just a College Seminary, but a full-fledged Graduate School of Philosophy and Theology, with the opening of its Online Master of Arts in Theology Program. More than 60 years ago, in 1959, St. John Vianney began its story as a high school seminary. In 1974, St. John Vianney Minor Seminary became St. John Vianney College Seminary, and in the 80's, it received accreditation from the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools, thanks to the hard work of a number of its great professors. In 1982, a Pre-Theology Program was established. In the years that followed, more buildings were added, programs were created and the bilingual character of the seminary was firmly set. In 2019, St. John Vianney was accredited to begin offering a graduate degree in philosophy. It's been an amazing 3 1/2-year journey of hard work to get the Online MA programs running. But we had a lot of help from extremely dedicated and faith-filled professors and very good friends who believe in the mission of this gem of the Archdiocese of Miami. To all who continue to believe in our mission, thank you!
To all our friends, We would like everyone to know that all the seminarians are back after Christmas Break, and all have tested negative for Covid. {They were all tested on-site last Sunday with the assistance of friends from the Miami-Dade Fire Department, and we received the results soon afterwards.] The men are now all safe within the seminary's walls, to continue their formation for the Spring Semester. protected by St. Michael and the Blessed Mother. They are currently on their annual silent retreat till Friday. Thank you for all your prayers. [To everyone, we look forward to the time when we can have you visit us in person once more. But for now, the Archbishop has mandated that we secure the seminarians again within the safe "bubble" of the seminary. We are thus unable to have guests over. Know that we keep all of you in our prayers, and look forward to having you once again join us for our activities, most especially prayers and the Eucharist.]

"A people walking in darkness have seen a great light; on those living in the land of deep darkness a light has dawned. You have enlarged the nation and increased their joy; they rejoice before you as people rejoice at the harvest... For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace." (Is. 9:2-3,6) MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYBODY! We keep all of you and your families in our prayer, this Christmas and in the coming year.
