Good afternoon church,

I pray that you are doing well and want to keep you aware of all that is going on at Family Cathedral.

As a reminder, we will be having service online tonight from 7:00 – 8:00. There will be no classes or activities on campus tonight. There are two different ways you can watch online, through Facebook or through Livestream.

To access our service through Facebook, go to https://www.facebook.com/FamilyCathedral/ , service should be live at 7:00.

To access our service through Livestream, you can go to www.familycathedral.org and click on watch or simply go to www.livestream.com/familycathedral, again the service should be live by 7:00.

Both Facebook and Livestream have the ability for you to comment and chat with us during the service. So, we would love for you to comment, let us know you are watching, give an amen or share a prayer request that you might have. These are different times for all of us and that means finding new ways to stay connected as a church family.

We know that the Church is God’s people, Church cannot be canceled, we are simply finding new ways to meet together and stay engaged.

We also wanted to remind you that as always there are several ways you can continue to give. You can give online by going to www.familycathedral.org and clicking "Giving." You can give via text by texting the word “Give” to (972) 441-7476. Or, you can send it by mail to “Family Cathedral” at 790 Windbell Cir, Mesquite TX 75149. If you just like to give in person, you can stop by the church tonight from 7:00 to 8:00 and drop it off with one of our Pastors, who would also be happy to pray with you.

Looking forward to worshiping with you tonight!

Blessings,

Pastor Harry & Debbie

The Middle: Life in Transition Pt 3

Text: Genesis 11:31; 12:1; 15:1–21
Topic: Promise, Covenant, Trust

Idea of the Message:
Abraham believed in God’s promise and covenant before anything happened in the physical world.

Application Point: Christians have a covenant with God and can believe in his promises in the worst of times.

Think About It:
God called Abraham to move from the city of Ur to a land further west (Genesis 11:31). Ur was the economic and cultural place to be at the time. Abraham had faith in this call of God and left everything he knew to go to this new place.

He had no Scripture verses to memorize for the journey; all he had was a relationship with this God. Imagine moving from a booming metropolis (New York City or London) to the middle of nowhere because God said to.

How many people would do that?

Also, we all like an upgrade.
Whether it’s your phone or internet service, we like to think that we are moving up in life.
Progressing forward and not backward. If you have ever moved from a large city to a small town—or from an important job to an entry-level position—you might have felt like you’ve moved down. Abraham’s relationship with God was an upgrade, but at the time Abraham didn’t know what was in store for him. He couldn’t physically see the progress of what God was doing. When God moves us in our lives in can seem like we aren’t getting an upgrade, but actually we only see one part of the story.

Discussion Questions:

What is one thing that stood out to you from this week’s message?

How well do you keep your promises?

Do you trust people who keep promises? Why?

Can you place your faith in God’s promise, even when you don’t see or feel anything?

What is something from the life of Abraham that stood out to you?

Genesis 11:31 (NLT)
31 One day Terah took his son Abram, his daughter-in-law Sarai (his son Abram’s wife), and his grandson Lot (his son Haran’s child) and moved away from Ur of the Chaldeans. He was headed for the land of Canaan, but they stopped at Haran and settled there.

Genesis 12:1 (NLT)

12 The Lord had said to Abram, “Leave your native country, your relatives, and your father’s family, and go to the land that I will show you.

Genesis 15 (NLT)

15 Sometime later, the Lord spoke to Abram in a vision and said to him, “Do not be afraid, Abram, for I will protect you, and your reward will be great.”
2 But Abram replied, “O Sovereign Lord, what good are all your blessings when I don’t even have a son? Since you’ve given me no children, Eliezer of Damascus, a servant in my household, will inherit all my wealth. 3 You have given me no descendants of my own, so one of my servants will be my heir.”
4 Then the Lord said to him, “No, your servant will not be your heir, for you will have a son of your own who will be your heir.” 5 Then the Lord took Abram outside and said to him, “Look up into the sky and count the stars if you can. That’s how many descendants you will have!”
6 And Abram believed the Lord, and the Lord counted him as righteous because of his faith.
7 Then the Lord told him, “I am the Lord who brought you out of Ur of the Chaldeans to give you this land as your possession.”
8 But Abram replied, “O Sovereign Lord, how can I be sure that I will actually possess it?”
9 The Lord told him, “Bring me a three-year-old heifer, a three-year-old female goat, a three-year-old ram, a turtledove, and a young pigeon.” 10 So Abram presented all these to him and killed them. Then he cut each animal down the middle and laid the halves side by side; he did not, however, cut the birds in half.11 Some vultures swooped down to eat the carcasses, but Abram chased them away.
12 As the sun was going down, Abram fell into a deep sleep, and a terrifying darkness came down over him. 13 Then the Lord said to Abram, “You can be sure that your descendants will be strangers in a foreign land, where they will be oppressed as slaves for 400 years. 14 But I will punish the nation that enslaves them, and in the end, they will come away with great wealth. 15 (As for you, you will die in peace and be buried at a ripe old age.) 16 After four generations your descendants will return here to this land, for the sins of the Amorites do not yet warrant their destruction.”
17 After the sun went down and darkness fell, Abram saw a smoking firepot and a flaming torch pass between the halves of the carcasses. 18 So the Lord made a covenant with Abram that day and said, “I have given this land to your descendants, all the way from the border of Egypt[a] to the great Euphrates River—19 the land now occupied by the Kenites, Kenizzites, Kadmonites, 20 Hittites, Perizzites, Rephaites, 21 Amorites, Canaanites, Girgash*tes, and Jebusites.”
