My Lord and Savior Jesus Christ delivered me from alcoholism and filled me with His Holy Spirit on 8/4/2013. He also healed me from a torn rotator cuff that was 80% damaged. The doctor said if I did not have surgery I would not be able to lift anything. In December 2013 after leaving the house of God, I felt a great heat on my shoulder. I went to another doctor who said there was no longer a tear. He blessed my wife and I with our first home in 2014 after just starting a new job 2 months before. Also our second home in 2018 after 4 lenders told us it wasn’t possible. I LOVE JESUS CHRIST!!!!

“When I was younger I went through a lot. My reality was always changing. I always had faith that God would work it out, but the stress of those changes left me with depression and anxiety. It was really tough for a while. I feel I am stronger and better because of it, and I know God has a reason for all the things I went through.
I always grew up in a Christian household but it wasn't always an Apostolic household. When I was about 7 years old we first came to Emmanuel Pentecostal Church. I’ve met so many incredible people and I've grown so much in my faith in the Lord since coming here. I received the Holy Ghost at this church, and now serve as a children’s teacher. I don't know where I would be right now if I hadn't come to Emmanuel Pentecostal Church. God has a way, He has a plan, and He will work it out. Have faith!”

I came to EPC in 2007 and immediately Senior Pastor Flowers welcomed me and made me feel as though we were best friends all along. Coming from a church where I experienced some painful memories, it was a blessing to have found Emmanuel Pentecostal Church. There was such a genuine spirit of love that overwhelmed me right away. It was then I knew this is where I was meant to be.

I was a young single mother that found hope, love and encouragement at EPC. I was refilled with the Holy Ghost in 2014 and the Lord led me to my husband also at Emmanuel. We have 2 beautiful children that love being apart of the children’s department and we love serving here.

“And such were some of you. But you were washed, but you were sanctified, but you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus and by the Spirit of our God.”
1 Corinthians 6:11
We hope you’ve been enjoying our #portraitsofgrace series! We want you to remember that no matter where you have come from, you can be made new this Easter Sunday!
In 2018, I lost one of my sons due to gun violence. It’s difficult losing a child in such a tragic way, but I’m so thankful for the strength that God has given me during this season. Yes, I get weak, but I always ask God for strength, and He gives it to me every single time. He never fails me. God has also given me the strength to forgive the man that caused me such pain. That was the hardest thing I’ve had to do. I pray that God gives him peace within himself. I thank God for my strength and peace daily and for my amazing church family for all of the prayers, visits, and support during my time of grief. I love my church!!

My tenth birthday went from a joyous occasion to one of disaster & fear. My father was found ill & spent several days in the hospital. He was diagnosed with Hepatitis C & liver disease. My childhood I had a healthy & involved father, and before my eyes my earthly father became very ill & unfortunately passed away when I was 13. While there were many dark days, never was there a day that God wasn’t keeping His hand over my life & my family’s life. I always knew He was protecting us & watching over us even when my father wasn’t healed.
That’s when my family met Norman Paslay. The year of 2011 my family began attending The Calvary Academy & The Calvary Church. We became very close to the Paslay family & through the Will of God and many God ordained moments, I was led to EPC! In the short time I have been here at Emmanuel, I have felt nothing but love & family. God has spoken to me many times here at EPC, & while I don’t know what tomorrow holds, I know walking in the Will of God is the greatest thing I have ever done.

When asked what Esperanza loves about her church, she couldn’t say enough about our children’s teachers. “The teachers help me learn more about God to help me get closer to Him.” She also mentioned how much she loves learning and diving deep into God’s word. Every Sunday Esperanza is at the front worshipping and singing with her whole heart. “It’s so much fun. It’s easy to understand. This is a new way of life that gives me joy and new life.”
- Esperanza Velasquez
