McKnight Dental

#Guatemala2020
Dr. McKnight has another Guatemala mission trip completed. The final assessment had the dental team doing over 300 procedures relating to fillings and extractions. Medical performed 37 surgeries related to Ob/Gyn procedures, gallbladder removals, hernia repairs, fistula repairs, cyst removals and others. The construction team worked to rebuild the only road to one of the village communities as well as redoing the plumbing to the village pila (washing station). The last night we were treated to an erupting Volcano which was a special treat. Aside from a lost passport all went smoothly and everyone is back home. The next project is fundraising to expand the surgical operating room. Feeling gracious?

[11/02/16]   We Need Surgical Nurses and a Sonographer

We are presently looking for Surgical Nurses and a Sonographer for our upcoming San Lucas Mission Trip which will be from February 4 to 12, 2017.

If you are interested or know of someone who might be please contact us at: [email protected] for more information.

[11/02/16]   We’re Going Back!

We are now finalizing our medical and dental mission trip for this February. We will be going back to San Lucas Toliman from February 4 -12th which will include the extra day in Antigua on the 11th.

For those who haven't been to San Lucas, it is a town that borders Lake Atitlan which has been called one of the most beautiful lakes in the world. San Lucas is a typical Guatemalan village, but the mission has been there for over 40 years and has made a tremendous difference in the people's lives. There is a women's vocational training program, a coffee coop that the villagers work, reforestation, and different construction projects at various stages of being completed. Our effort will focus on medical and dental outreach as well as a medical surgical team that will work out of the hospital surgical rooms. We will take doctors, nurses, support staff, dentists, assistants, hygienists, and anyone who is bilingual. There will also be some outreach volunteers that will be a part of the other programs such as construction of homes and kitchens.
More details will come but this is our first invitation for you to share with anyone who may be interested. This trip is a smaller one than previous trips so if you know someone else who is interested let me know and I will get them on a list for more information. If you already know you’re committed, then it is time to put in your deposit.

The total cost of the ground package is $800 and will include what it always has: transportation to San Lucas for the mission and then on to Antigua at the finish, all meals at the mission, rooms in San Lucas and Antigua, and all tips and a donation to the Mission group to support their efforts. Of course, you can donate an additional personal amount if you feel so called but they are not expecting it. We need $400 down now and the balance by December 1st. One thing that isn't arranged or included is your van/taxi fare from Antigua to Guatemala City on Sunday.

That can be fully arranged by the hotel we are staying in while you are in Antigua and the usual cost is around $40. With all the various departure times, it is better for us to let you handle that one. The flights are currently wide open but the prices almost certainly will increase the longer you wait to book. Please arrange to be in Guatemala City no later than 2:00 on Saturday the 4th and we will board buses to go to San Lucas that day. The flight that we have booked is referenced below for those of you flying out of Dallas.

We are looking for some more surgical nurses and a sonographer so put the word out.

On Thursday, the 9th of June we got a very pleasant surprise. Katie Wallyn, our San Lucas Missionary contact and dear friend, was coming through Dallas on her way to Minnesota and decided to visit Byron McKnight. When he decided to share her with us, it was a total surprise. Byron arranged for as many of the Mission St. Luke volunteers as possible have a meet and greet with Katie at the Savor Gastropub in Klyde Warren Park in downtown Dallas.

It was a wonderful evening filled with comradery. Katie was there as full of life as ever and we got to spend time with her and many of the other volunteers that we had shared our mission with. Katie updated us on San Lucas activities and on some of our friends who we had developed close friendships with. It is hard to believe the bond that can be developed so quickly in a ministry like Mission St Luke’s.

The time together was all too short but everyone left re-energized and wishing we were back in San Lucas.

Our incredible team, serving the beautiful and grateful people of Guatemala.

[08/08/15]   Mission St. Lucas has received a second grant from Rotary club of Mesquite to purchase another compressor for our Remote Dental Team in Guatemala. It is an a for us to do much needed dental restoration work for the indigenous Mayan people in Guatemala.

Just a reminder... We still need about $2000 to complete construction of our storage area at the hospital in San Lucas Toliman. If God should lead you to do so, you can send your donation in care of Mission St. Luke at 3001 Motley Dr. Suite A,Mesquite, Texas 75150.

Please continue to pray as we prepare for our trip January 9, 2016. We will be taking our surgical and dental team and our evangelical team and going to the city and outlying areas of San Lucas. May God bless you all,

Ronnie Rawls

[03/23/15]   The hospital in San Lucas Toliman has completed a huge project with construction of a water purification system. This will not only provide pure water for the hospital, but for many others in the community. This is where our Mission St Luke Medical Team performs medical and surgical services.
This excellent project was funded by donations to Mission San Lucas from many donors.

[03/13/15]   Mission St. Luke now has a page! Please take a moment to like and share this page with friends and family your support means a lot towards our mission in Guatemala. Please stay tuned there will be more info and pictures to come.
