Our desire is to encourage you to grow and be encouraged and empowered by the Word of God.

[03/26/20]   This pandemic really has some people freaked out. There is an alarming panic around the Coronavirus resulting in a fear of getting sick, a fear of dying, a fear of running out of food and supplies and a fear of the unknown. As Christ followers, the Scriptures tells us that God doesn’t give us a spirit of fear and that it is He who supplies our needs. What this means is although this is a troubling time, we should operate from a place of trust that God is in control. Jesus said, “Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid.” John‬ ‭14:27‬ ‭ESV‬‬ I challenge you to put your trust in God and do not succumb to fear. Believe in His words and in His promises that says He will never leave us nor forsake us. God’s Word is true and in spite of what’s going on, He remains faithful.

[03/25/20]   For a long time we have turned our backs on God, including the church. In fact, the church as a whole has compromised morality and played around with sin agreeing with what society believes is truth. In fact in today’s society truth is relative, meaning it’s your own truth (what you feel and believe is true) and not God’s truth (based on the Bible). So if we wonder why it seems like God has removed His favor and protection from us, including the church, it’s because the Bible says, “For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who by their unrighteousness suppress the truth.” Romans‬ ‭1:18‬ ‭ESV‬‬ The world will continue to suffer until we repent and turn to the truth.

[03/24/20]   Every day we face new developments like shelter in place orders, and states declared as natural disasters. All of the alarming news of infections and deaths may make you feel anxious and uneasy. I believe God wants our attention. We have turned our backs on God, worshipped other gods and idols, and put our affections in people and things before Him. I believe this pandemic is spiritual and it is a wake up call for global repentance. God says, “if My people who are called by My name humble themselves, and pray and seek My face and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and heal their land.” 2 Chronicles‬ ‭7:14‬ ‭ESV Let us globally seek God for forgiveness so that our world may be healed from this pandemic.

[03/23/20]   Yesterday I was thinking about my post today because I’ve been asked by several people if I think there is some kind of spiritual component around this virus. My answer is yes, I do. If nothing else, God is trying to get our attention. Never in our lifetime has a virus completely halted life and the economy at the same time. This is an unprecedented time where the infection report was 2000 on Friday the 13th and now sits at 32,000+ people infected, and 400 deaths. Yes there will be more infected as there is more testing. It seems that there is no end in site. The people who are choosing to be responsible are suffering the most. I urge everyone to take social distancing seriously and stay at home. The Bible says, “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge; fools despise wisdom and instruction.” Proverbs‬ ‭1:7‬ ‭ESV‬‬ Those who continue to disregard instruction are being foolish and continue to the spread of this pandemic. As Christ followers, let us all do our part to slow down this disease.

[03/20/20]   In my lifetime, we’ve lived through viral diseases such as H1N1, Ebola, and West Nile. Now are are living through the Coronavirus and jobs are being lost, sickness is all around, wages are decreased, people are being isolated and unable to connect. Yet God says, “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go."” Joshua‬ ‭1:9‬ ‭ESV‬‬ Just remind yourself that God is with you now in the midst of these trying circumstances. Stay encouraged

[03/19/20]   In 1999 I was diagnosed with Lupus, an autoimmune deficiency. You may not know what’s its like to always be in pain, to not be able to fight off the common cold, to suffer from migraines, to have skin issues, and to just have a quality of life to be dependent on medications. So when I watch TV and see people at the beach not social distancing and treating this pandemic like it’s no big deal, it enrages me. As humans we all should have the simple regard for human life and suffering. Christians are commanded to have this regard. Jesus said there are two commandments. The first is to love God. “The second is this: 'You shall love your neighbor as yourself.' There is no other commandment greater than these."” Mark‬ ‭12:30-31‬ ‭ESV‬‬ You may not personally be affected, but for the elderly and people like myself, this virus is fatal, and even in the young or healthy, it causes damage to the lungs. To love your neighbor is to make uncomfortable sacrifices. Many people are making sacrifices to stop the spread of this virus to save lives. Make sure you are doing your part.

[03/18/20]   As we transition to working from home, or potentially face unemployment or decreased wages, we all must put our trust in God more than ever. It is easy to get caught up in fear of the unknown or even the fear of running out of toilet paper. This is a new way of life as we know it, being socially isolated or in some cases quarantined. But God is saying for you to trust Him now more than ever. He said, “fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God; I will strengthen you, I will help you, I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.” Isaiah‬ ‭41:10‬ ‭ESV‬‬

[03/17/20]   Every day things seem to worsen. Your favorite sit down restaurants and stores are closed indefinitely and every day we hear of changes happening globally. It’s very human to be afraid right now. King David faced some insurmountable circumstances but he said to God, “When I am afraid, I put my trust in you.” Psalms‬ ‭56:3‬ ‭ESV‬‬ We too must be like King David and put our faith and trust in God to see us through this challenging time.

[03/16/20]   Today begins a different feel in the world. Many parents are home with their children trying to figure out what to do next. People are feeling uneasy from inconsistent communication about the Coronavirus from our leaders. And panic is starting to surface, hence the rush of stocking your pantry and no access to toilet paper in the major stores. But I want to remind all Christ followers that “God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control.” 2 Timothy‬ ‭1:7‬ ‭ESV‬‬ During this pandemic we must remind ourselves that fear doesn’t come from God. Therefore, be diligent, take the appropriate precautions and be smart but don’t operate from a place of fear. The world is watching our response to this crisis.

[03/13/20]   Today I'm changing our subject to address the many concerns that are on the hearts of people today due to the Coronavirus pandemic. I want to first remind all Christ followers reading this that our hope is in Christ alone, not our jobs, our health, our bank accounts nor our circumstances. The Bible says, “do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” Philippians‬ ‭4:6-7‬ ‭ESV. As for Christians today, this the time to really lean into our faith in the midst of the unknown so that others may turn to Christ during this uncertainty.

[03/12/20]   A gardener knows that for the health of his garden the plants must be pruned. Leaves and branches must be cut away so that the plant can have room to grow and flourish so that it can produce fruit. As Christ followers, we are the branches and God is the Gardner. Throughout the course of our lives we will go through a pruning process. God uses the trials of life, sickness, finances, and even relationships to prune us so that we produce fruit. It doesn’t feel good to be pruned, but for the sake of our growth, it’s something that must happen. Jesus said, “Every branch in me that does not bear fruit he takes away, and every branch that does bear fruit he prunes, that it may bear more fruit.” John‬ ‭15:2‬ ‭ESV‬‬

[03/11/20]   Do you ever wonder if you are in the right place in society? What I mean is, do you ever think there should be more to your life than what it is now? Or do you wonder if you are really living out your purpose? God has gifted you with spiritual gifts, talents, passions and abilities that were put in you to glorify Him and to build and edify His kingdom. If you are not sure that you are where God wants you to be, and what you are currently doing isn’t giving you the fulfillment you desire, then it’s possible there is more for you to do. But, “I am sure of this, that he who began a good work in you will bring it to completion at the day of Jesus Christ.” Philippians‬ ‭1:6‬ ‭ESV‬‬ Keep pursuing God so that He directs you down the path that will ultimately bring the fulfillment you desire and then be willing to step out on faith and move on it.

[03/10/20]   A tree is known by its fruit. You’ve heard this phrase before. But a true Christian is also known by his/her fruit. I’m sure you know someone who says they are a Christian but based on their lifestyle and lack of ethics, you would never know it. They may wear a cross on their neck, even show up to church occasionally. Yet, living the Christian life is the last thing they desire but would rather live the way they want to live regardless if it’s sinful or even out right evil. If this is the case, I question if that person really values the gift of salvation that they said they received. The Bible says, “You will recognize them by their fruits. Are grapes gathered from thornbushes, or figs from thistles?” Matthew‬ ‭7:16‬ ‭ESV‬‬

[03/09/20]   If your life was projected on a movie screen, would you be ashamed or embarrassed by how you have lived? Would people watching your movie say, you loved people like Christ? Would they say you were a good friend and that you lived your life to advance God’s kingdom? Or would your life represent one lived just to earn money and spend it on material things? Would your life be focused on conquering women, sex, alcohol or physical pleasure? Unfortunately, some professing Christians lives will be like the Bible says, “They profess to know God, but they deny him by their works. They are detestable, disobedient, unfit for any good work.” Titus‬ ‭1:16‬ ‭ESV‬‬ Don’t let this be the end credits of your movie.

[03/06/20]   The Bible tells us that we cannot not be saved from our sins because we are a good person or because we do good things. Salvation cannot be earned nor is it deserved by any of us. Yet at some point after you have received Christ, there should be some evidence of your confession. No, you won’t be perfect but you should be striving to live a life like Christ daily. “In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven.” Matthew‬ ‭5:16‬ ‭ESV‬‬

[03/05/20]   When you became a Christian, you were sanctified- meaning you were set apart for God’s work and His glory. Knowing this, does your life represent one that is set apart for God’s glory? Or is your focus on your bills, relationships, your bank account, marriage, or your businesses so that you lose focus on living a life set apart for God? In fact, has God become an after thought in your life? How can you say that God is #1 in your life but you have no fruit to back this up? The Bible says, “The backslider in heart will be filled with the fruit of his ways, and a good man will be filled with the fruit of his ways.” Proverbs‬ ‭14:14‬ ‭ESV‬‬

[03/04/20]   What does it mean to produce good works? It means that you love your neighbor as yourself, yes even the unloveable. It means you do random acts of kindness or volunteer your time, talents and treasure. It means that you treat your wife as Christ loves the church and you show respect to your husband. Good works also means that you don’t live out your Christianity in name only or its represented by the cross around your neck. “For we are his workmanship created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.”
‭‭Ephesians‬ ‭2:10‬ ‭ESV‬‬

[03/03/20]   The Bible distinguishes spiritual Christians vs carnal Christians. If you are a Christian operating with the Holy Spirit, you will produce good works. When you operate as a carnal Christian, it will be difficult to tell you apart from someone who doesn’t believe in Jesus. The Bible says, “Every healthy tree bears good fruit, but the diseased tree bears bad fruit.” Matthew‬ ‭7:17‬ ‭ESV‬‬ What kind of fruit are you bearing?

[03/02/20]   Last month we discussed spiritual growth. This month’s theme will discuss what it looks like be a spiritual vs carnal Christian and what are the evidences of both. If you profess to be a Christian, then there should be an evidence of your faith. “But someone will say, "You have faith and I have works." Show me your faith apart from your works, and I will show you my faith by my works.” James‬ ‭2:18‬ ‭ESV‬‬ What are you doing as a result of the gift of salvation that you’ve been given? Do you serve at a church or a charity, give to the poor, or contribute to your community, making society a better place? What are you doing with the gifts that you’ve been given? Carnal Christians often waste their talents and treasures on things that have no eternal impact. Make sure your life is one that is impacting the world for God’s kingdom daily.

[02/28/20]   We must actively filter out the garbage that comes to our eyes and ears daily. The Enemy uses devices to keep Christians impotent and living powerless lives. When we allow our minds to be bombarded with perverted sexual images, profanity, arguments over polarized political views, racism, sexism, hatred and constant negativity, we are playing right into the Enemy’s hands. His goal is to keep you living in your flesh, feeding your flesh instead of being led by the Holy Spirit. Living in the flesh stunts your spiritual growth. The Bible says, “Destroy arguments and every lofty opinion raised against the knowledge of God, and take every thought captive to obey Christ.” ‭‭2 Corinthians‬ ‭10:5‬ ‭ESV‬‬

[02/27/20]   Holding grudges, grandstanding, being nasty and mean because you’ve been hurt is only hurting you. Unforgiveness destroys your witness, it stunts your spiritual growth and it keeps you from walking in the joy of the Lord. Spiritual growth requires forgiveness towards those who have hurt you. Even if that person doesn’t deserve your forgiveness, the Bible says you must forgive “if one has a complaint against another, forgiving each other; as the Lord has forgiven you, so you also must forgive.” Colossians‬ ‭3:13‬ ‭ESV‬‬ It’s time for you to forgive and let it go.
