The youth and children are sponsoring a "Jubilee Service Day" mission project this Saturday June 12 from 10:00-12:00. It will take place in the front courtyard of the church. During this time we will be assembling 100 bags with hygiene products and snacks that can be distributed to people who are homeless and those in need. We invite all church members to join us to participate in this project as an extension of our Jubilee ministry. So come out and shop at the Hillcrest Farmers Market Saturday and linger a bit afterwards to lend a helping hand.

Living the resurrection

Living the resurrection According to the Apostle Paul, the resurrection of the crucified Jesus is a cosmic earthquake that shakes the foundations of reality. Everything is different, everything is made new. Jesus’s rising from the tomb is only the beginning — as Paul puts it, he is the “first-fruits” of a much grea...

“Hosanna to the Son of David!
Blessed is the one who comes in the name of the Lord!
Hosanna in the highest heaven!”

[03/27/21]   It has been a hard year. But the gospel is good news because it invades our hard days, months, years and seasons. Give thanks to God and be grateful for this wonderful church community. By the grace of God, we're still here.

"Grace and gratitude belong together like heaven and earth. Grace evokes gratitude like the voice an echo. Gratitude follows grace like thunder lightning." - Karl Barth

"Radically and basically, all sin is simply ingratitude." - Karl Barth

[03/24/21]   Dear PHBC family,

On behalf of the COVID-19 Advisory Team, I am pleased to announce that we will return to worship in the sanctuary on Easter Sunday, April 4th at 10:45am. For those of you who choose to stay home, you can stream our services live via YouTube. I will be sending you a link to our YouTube page in the near future, and an order of worship will be emailed to you weekly. Zoom Bible studies will still be offered every Wednesday, and we are currently thinking of ways to keep everyone plugged in—especially folks who cannot join us for in-person worship just yet.

Please use discretion and consider your own health week to week when deciding whether to attend in person. For more information regarding increased risk factors for COVID-19, visit www.cdc.gov. Here are some questions to ask yourself each Sunday before coming to church:

• Have I been diagnosed with COVID-19 or in contact with someone who has tested positive within the last 14 days?
• Have I checked my temperature? Do I have a fever?
• Do I have a new or worsening cough or shortness of breath?
• Do I have any cold or flu-like symptoms?
• Do I have a loss of, or change in, sense of taste or smell?

Our safety protocols:

• Everyone over the age of 2 must wear a mask for the duration of the service, covering your mouth and nose. If you leave your mask at home, we will provide one for you.
• Keep a safe physical distance at all times.
• No shaking hands or hugging.
• If you need to cough or sneeze, turn your head and cough/sneeze into your elbow.
• Do not share materials with people outside your family unit.
• Do not share food and drinks.
• Orders of worship will be printed and placed in their usual locations. Feel free to collect them one at a time on your way in.
• A bathroom will be available if necessary, but will be limited to one person (or a parent and young child) at a time. Please wash your hands after using the restroom.
• For now, we will sing one congregational hymn per service and will include a mixture of solos and ensembles. However, choral singing is still on hold.

We encourage you to arrive ten or fifteen minutes before the service starts, as seating will begin at 10:35. Each individual or household unit will be seated by an usher at least 6 feet apart. DO NOT SEAT YOURSELF. At the conclusion of the service, ushers will dismiss you row by row. Please remain in your seat until an usher dismisses your row, and please avoid mingling with others on your way out. Hand sanitizers will be placed near the sanctuary entrances and back door.

Childcare will be provided, and our volunteers will diligently clean the space and disinfect the toys after use.

Sunday school, youth and children’s gatherings are also permitted in the building, provided they follow the abovementioned safety protocols. In order to provide adequate space for social distancing, Flock of Ages will meet in Hicks Hall, Whosoever will meet in Hyde Parlor, and Community Class will meet in room #320 on the third floor.

I look forward to gathering with you on Easter Sunday to celebrate the resurrection of our Lord, and the COVID-19 Advisory Team is so grateful for your patience and understanding.

Yours in Christ,
Pastor Matt

Does the Church Supercede Israel? – Feat. Andrew Rillera | BibleProject

What's the relationship between the church and Israel? (not the modern nation-state, but the Jewish people) Did the church "replace" Israel as God's chosen people? Does God want us to be "color blind"? Here's an excellent conversation that addresses these questions. Highly recommended.
