OPEN HEAVENS DAILY DEVOTIONAL
DATE: WEDNESDAY 17TH FEBRUARY 2021.
THEME: BUILD FOR GOD.

MEMORY VERSE:
“Is it time for you, O ye, to dwell in your cieled houses, and this house lie waste? ”Haggai 1:4

BIBLE READING: Haggai. 1:1-10
1• In the second year of Darius the king, in the sixth month, in the first day of the month, came The Word of The Lord by Haggai the prophet unto Zerubbabel the son of Shealtiel, governor of Judah, and to Joshua the son of Josedech, The High Priest, saying,
2• Thus speaketh The Lord of Hosts, saying, This people say, The time is not come, the time that The Lord's House should be built.
3• Then came The Word of The Lord by Haggai The Prophet, saying,
4• Is it time for you, O ye, to dwell in your cieled houses, and this house lie waste?
5• Now therefore thus saith The Lord of Hosts; Consider your ways.
6• Ye have sown much, and bring in little; ye eat, but ye have not enough; ye drink, but ye are not filled with drink; ye clothe you, but there is none warm; and he that earneth wages earneth wages to put it into a bag with holes.
7• Thus saith The Lord of Hosts; Consider your ways.
8• Go up to the mountain, and bring wood, and build the house; and I will take pleasure in it, and I will be glorified, saith The Lord.
9• Ye looked for much, and, lo it came to little; and when ye brought it home, I did blow upon it. Why? saith The Lord of Hosts. Because of Mine House that is waste, and ye run every man unto his own house.
10• Therefore The Heaven over you is stayed from dew, and the earth is stayed from her fruit.

MESSAGE:
A. There are certain kinds of offences that the head corporate organization organisation would not bother to address personally.
1• However, there are also some other kinds of offences that would have to be addressed personally by the head of the organisation.
2• This is similar to what happens in Heaven.
3• All sins are evi1, but there are certain sins for which God may send an angel to punish: the sinner,
4• While there are some others that He address personally.
5• One of such sins is leaving the house of God uncompleted.
6• God will fight anyone who leaves His house uncompleted by ensuring that any money such a fellow makes goes into a pocket withholes (Haggai 1:4-7).
7• "Is it time for you, O ye, to dwell in your cieled houses, and this house lie waste? Now therefore thus saith the Lord of hosts; Consider your ways.
8• Ye have sown much, and bring in little; ye eat, but ye have not enough; ye drink, but ye are not filled with drink; ye clothe you, but there is none warm; and he that earneth wages earneth wages to put it into a bag with holes. Thus saith the Lord of hosts; Consider your ways.”
Haggai 1:4-7

B. Could it be that the reason you've been unable to do much with your income is that you don't care to contribute to the completion of your local Church building?
1• Today, God is saying "consider your ways”.
2• I don't like it when I see God's Building Project uncompleted, especially when I i have the resources that can help complete it.
3• I have discovered that in return, God has given me houses that I did not build and cars that I did not buy, including those I cannot afford.
4• One of my sons heard that we were building an auditorium in The Redeemed Christian Church of God and immediately sent me a huge sum of money in Naira.
5• Within days, he got the same amount of money he had contributed, but in dollars.
6• When you join in completing God's Building Project, He will thank you wondrously,
7• But when you ignore it, you may attract His wrath as it is recorded in our Bible Reading Today.
8• Never miss an opportunity to build for God.

KEY POINT:
Every opportunity to give to God Is an opportunity to be blessed by Him; rejoice in it.

HYMN: GREAT IS THY FAITHFULNESS.

There is no shadow of turning with Thee;
Thou changest not, Thy compassions, they fail not;
As Thou hast been Thou forever wilt be.

Great is Thy faithfulness!
Great is Thy faithfulness!
Morning by morning new mercies I see:
All I have needed Thy hand hath provided—
Great is Thy faithfulness, Lord, unto me!

2. Summer and winter and springtime and harvest,
Sun, moon, and stars in their courses above
Join with all nature in manifold witness
To Thy great faithfulness, mercy, and love. Refrain:

3. Pardon for sin and a peace that endureth,
Thine own dear presence to cheer and to guide,
Strength for today and bright hope for tomorrow— Refrain: EMMANUEL=GOD WITH US!

OPEN HEAVENS DAILY DEVOTIONAL.

DATE: MONDAY 15TH FEBRUARY, 2021.

THEME: DON’T BE FOOLISH.

MEMORISE:
“Jesus said unto him, It is written again, Thou shalt not tempt the Lord thy God.”
Matthew 4:7

READ: Numbers 14:22-30 (KJV)

22. Because all those men which have seen my glory, and my miracles, which I did in Egypt and in the wilderness, and have tempted me now these ten times, and have not hearkened to my voice;

23. Surely they shall not see the land which I sware unto their fathers, neither shall any of them that provoked me see it;

24. But my servant Caleb, because he had another spirit with him, and hath followed me fully, him will I bring into the land whereinto he went; and his seed shall possess it.

25. (Now the Amalekites and the Canaanites dwelt in the valley.) To morrow turn you, and get you into the wilderness by the way of the Red sea.

26. And the LORD spake unto Moses and unto Aaron, saying,

27. How long shall I bear with this evil congregation, which murmur against me? I have heard the murmurings of the children of Israel, which they murmur against me.

28. Say unto them, As truly as I live, saith the LORD, as ye have spoken in mine ears, so will I do to you;

29. Your carcases shall fall in this wilderness; and all that were numbered of you, according to your whole number, from twenty years old and upward, which have murmured against me,

30. Doubtless ye shall not come into the land, concerning which I sware to make you dwell therein, save Caleb the son of Jephunneh, and Joshua the son of Nun.

MESSAGE:
Many years ago, I visited a zoo in Ibadan, Nigeria, and I was told the story of a certain prophet who jumped into the lion’s cage to prove that he had the same power as Daniel. The lion ate him up in spite of the huge cross he carried with him.

One major difference between that man and Daniel is that the latter did not jump into the lions’ den to tempt God; he was thrown into it for praying to God. God however, didn’t only save Daniel; He also prospered him and wiped out his accusers (Daniel 6:1-26).

Mark 16:18 says: They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover.

Does this mean that you should deliberately drink poison? No. What God is saying in the passage above is that if someone tries to poison you, the poison will not harm you.

It is foolishness to tempt God. This is the trap the devil set before Jesus Christ in Matthew 4:5-7 when he told Him to jump off the pinnacle of the temple, reminding Him that the Bible says God’s angels will not allow His foot to be dashed against a stone. Jesus escaped this trap by quoting Deuteronomy 6:16: Ye shall not tempt the Lord your God…

Tempting God provokes His wrath and also limits what He wants to do in the life of His children. How oft did they provoke him in the wilderness, and grieve him in the desert! Yea, they turned back and tempted God, and limited the Holy One of Israel.
(Psalm 78:40-41)

As we see in our Bible reading today, the children of Israel tempted God in the wilderness with their unbelief, murmuring and idolatry.

This limited God’s plans for their lives and prevented them from entering the Promised Land with the exception of Caleb and Joshua who had faith in Him.

It is indeed foolishness to tempt God. Are you tempting God?

PRAYER POINT:
Lord, please forgive me for every time I have tempted You and help me never to do it again.

BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: Leviticus 24-25

HYMN 21: ROCK OF AGES, CLEFT FOR ME.

1. Rock of Ages, cleft for me,
Let me hide myself in Thee!
Let the water and the blood,
From Thy wounded side which flowed,
Be of sin the double cure;
Save from wrath and make me pure.

2. Not the labours of my hands,
Can fulfill Thy law’s demands;
Could my zeal no respite know,
Could my tears for ever flow,
All for sin could not atone,
Thou must save and Thou alone.

3. Nothing in my hand I bring,
Simply to the cross I cling;
Naked, come to Thee for dress,
Helpless, look to Thee for grace,
Foul, I to the fountain fly;
Wash me, Saviour, or I die.

4. While I draw this fleeting breath,
When mine eyes shall close in death,
When I soar to worlds unknown,
See Thee on Thy judgement throne,
Rock of Ages, cleft for me,
Let me hide myself in Thee.
