Operating as usual

Hi Beautiful Mom
I encourage you to remain strong, in these last days, and continue to train your children accordingly proverbs 22.6. It is extremely important to not let the world sow disscord between you and your children. Children,, honor your mother and fathers that your days on the earth will be prolonged! You can parent with power...start strong 💪🏾 start early!

One of our concerns is that younger generations are being actively encouraged to "cancel" their elders and disrespect their parents who don't affirm Critical Theory. "Cancelling" is seen as virtuous, even among Christians. Such attitudes are a violation of the 5th commandment and destroy Christian unity.

“Honor your father and your mother, that your days may be long in the land that the Lord your God is giving you." Ex. 20:12

"Listen to your father who gave you life, and do not despise your mother when she is old." Prov. 23:22

"Likewise, you who are younger, be subject to the elders. Clothe yourselves, all of you, with humility toward one another, for 'God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.'” 1 Pet. 5:5

"Pay to all what is owed to them...respect to whom respect is owed, honor to whom honor is owed." Rom. 13:7

"Do not rebuke an older man but encourage him as you would a father, younger men as brothers." 1 Tim. 5:1

Technology has changed rapidly this year. More children are doing school remotely, craving ways to connect with friends they can’t see in person, and looking to fill time that may otherwise have been filled by activities during more normal times. All of this has led to a steep increase in the amount of time kids spend with their faces in front of a screen. If you’re like a lot of parents, you may be feeling confused, frustrated, or defeated. We’re here for you!

Let’s not leave our kids to their own devices! Join us on November 5th for our next parents' workshop: Winning the Screen Time Battle without Losing Your Kids. We'll hear from experts like Dr. Gary Chapman and Arlene Pellicane on topics like:

Mama Bear Apologetics

Parents, we have been assigned the responsibility of raising our kids and teaching them to test everything against the Word of God. Are we taking our responsibility seriously? Proverbs 22:6 says, "Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old, he will not depart from it." (The image says 22:623, which of course, does not exist. Sorry!)

Start Your Day with Jesus

The MOST important thing a parent could ever do!

I am getting so excited to start homeschooling my kids in a few weeks, and especially for the opportunity to teach apologetics as part of their "formal" school day. We'll be using my most recent book, Talking with Your Kids about Jesus, as our text for the year. Whether you're homeschooling or just want to incorporate apologetics into your family's life in a more structured way, I wanted to share how easily you can use TWKAJ in the same way! Here are some things you should know:

--There are 5 sections with 30 chapters: the identity of Jesus, the teachings of Jesus, the death of Jesus, the resurrection of Jesus, and the difference Jesus makes.

--In completing this book, your kids will understand the evidence that Jesus is God, learn about current cultural misunderstandings on his teachings about things like love and judging, understand more deeply the meaning of Jesus's death on the cross (and why progressive views on the atonement fail to give justice to what the Bible says), learn the historical evidence for the resurrection, and then see how to put all of this together for the Christian life. You can see a full table of contents here:

--A great way to structure your study is to simply talk through one chapter per week over 30 weeks. If you're a homeschooler, this works out very nicely for 36 weeks of school--since each section of the book has 6 chapters, you can do 6 weeks and then a week for a test/essay/project on that section. That will bring you to 35 weeks total.

--Every chapter has a step by step discussion guide at the end. You can read the chapter yourself, then use the questions to lead you into discussion where you share the key points you want your kids to have. Or, you can read the chapter WITH your kids and discuss. With my middle schoolers, we will read it together, and then they will have an assignment to write a reply to the skeptic's question that you'll find under "Apply the Conversation."

If you have kids who are asking questions about how we know God exists, you can use my prior book, Talking with Your Kids about God, in exactly the same way. The two are meant to be a set, so they are structured identically.

I have to say that I wish parents were fired up about teaching their kids apologetics in the same way we're fired up about all the cultural issues right now. Remember: We can't expect our kids to think clearly about culture and CARE enough to think clearly if they aren't deeply convicted Christianity is true. I pray that my books will provide you with the resources you need to 1) know what needs to be talked about today given the claims of skeptics, and 2) know how to talk about these things effectively.

If you know people homeschooling or just have friends who could benefit from this book, please share!

I'm reading Matt Walsh's book, Church of Cowards, right now. This short nugget summarizes so well the challenges we face as a church today:

"The consequence of living in a secular age is that secularism is the default setting. You must try very hard to live and think as a Christian, or else you will naturally, by force of cultural gravity, find yourself living and thinking as an atheist."

He doesn't really elaborate on what he means by atheist, but this is the concern I have for the church right now--that many Christians are living as FUNCTIONAL atheists. It's not that we no longer believe in God or no longer trust in Jesus for forgiveness of sins. It's that we've lost sight of how those beliefs should deeply penetrate our daily thinking and living. We end up thinking and living so similarly to those who don't believe in God at all that our lives are barely indistinguishable. To be faithfully different in the midst of secular culture requires us to "try very hard to to live and think as a Christian" against the forces of cultural gravity, as Walsh says.

That starts with reading the Bible. Every. Day. Immerse yourself in God's Word. You don't have to have a fancy plan. I commit to reading just 2 chapters per day and work my way through whatever book I feel like reading at a given time. That's it. But it's also easy to get out of that habit. I have many, many times. If that's you right now, let me encourage you today to restart. We can't think and live biblically without being in the Bible regularly.

Pray for our little children! They are doing so well through all of this! Bless them, Jesus to stay close to you as they grow and learn! 🙏🏾
