Day 28: Psalm 100

Most of us want to belong, to fit in. We want to be someone’s someone: their best friend, their wife, their brother. Would you believe that God, the maker of heaven and earth, calls you His own? He knows you be name and considers you one of His precious children, His prized possession. It’s an amazing truth that we often take lightly because we hear it so much, but take the time to meditate on the truth of that as you prepare for Easter. Jesus loves you. He loves you. And you are free to love Him in return.

Psalm 100
A Psalm for giving thanks.
100 Make a joyful noise to the Lord, all the earth!
2 Serve the Lord with gladness!
Come into his presence with singing!
3 Know that the Lord, he is God!
It is he who made us, and we are his;
we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture.
4 Enter his gates with thanksgiving,
and his courts with praise!
Give thanks to him; bless his name!
5 For the Lord is good;
his steadfast love endures forever,
and his faithfulness to all generations.

Day 26: Mark 8:11-21
What has Jesus been trying to tell you lately? Has He had to repeat Himself? What are you not getting? It can be very difficult for us to determine God’s voice because He is so mysterious, so holy, so other. But we must pay attention to the movement of the Spirit in our hearts. We see in this story Jesus’ frustration at His disciples for not paying attention. “How many times do I have to tell you?” He nearly cries, exasperated with their lack of understanding. Listen to the urges of your heart, the gentle nudges you notice—God may be trying to tell you something you don’t want to miss.

Mark 8:11-21
11 The Pharisees came and began to argue with him, seeking from him a sign from heaven to test him. 12 And he sighed deeply in his spirit and said, “Why does this generation seek a sign? Truly, I say to you, no sign will be given to this generation.” 13 And he left them, got into the boat again, and went to the other side.

14 Now they had forgotten to bring bread, and they had only one loaf with them in the boat. 15 And he cautioned them, saying, “Watch out; beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and the leaven of Herod.” 16 And they began discussing with one another the fact that they had no bread. 17 And Jesus, aware of this, said to them, “Why are you discussing the fact that you have no bread? Do you not yet perceive or understand? Are your hearts hardened? 18 Having eyes do you not see, and having ears do you not hear? And do you not remember?19 When I broke the five loaves for the five thousand, how many baskets full of broken pieces did you take up?” They said to him, “Twelve.” 20 “And the seven for the four thousand, how many baskets full of broken pieces did you take up?” And they said to him, “Seven.” 21 And he said to them, “Do you not yet understand?”

Day 24: John 10:7-10
A good shepherd takes his sheep out to pasture every day. They pass through the gate that keeps them safe and secure in their pen at night. And as they roam the hills during the day, they eat, rest, and play—all under the shepherd’s watchful eye. It is at pasture that they find sustenance and grow. Jesus tells us that He is our gate and by Him we will “find pleasure” (v. 9). As we explore this world, we must always return to Him for nourishment, rest, and encouragement. For if we return to Him for our rest, we will have life… and have it abundantly.

John 10:7-10
7 So Jesus again said to them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, I am the door of the sheep. 8 All who came before me are thieves and robbers, but the sheep did not listen to them. 9 I am the door. If anyone enters by me, he will be saved and will go in and out and find pasture. 10 The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly.

The season of Lent, Day 18:
What does your heart long for? Think of the Christmas present you wanted so badly—you had to have it. Does it still satisfy now? Or is it just another of your possessions; one day it will turn to dust while you sail on into glory. Isn’t it true that what your heart really longs for is peace; communion with God and others; and lasting, meaningful relationships? If you ask for these things, God will give them to you. If you seek them, you will find them. Knock on His door, and see the wealth of gifts He has to offer you.

Matthew 7:7-8
7 “Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. 8 For everyone who asks receives, and the one who seeks finds, and to the one who knocks it will be opened.
