Undertaking the task of explaining how “Dominican Life is Contemplative” has been a real challenge
Dominican Life is Contemplative Undertaking the task of explaining how “Dominican Life is Contemplative” has been a real challenge (just ask Mark who has read a variety of drafts).
Not sure if this post ever made it to our page, posting it now to be sure.
Preaching to Adolescents Each Dominican is called to preach. Part of our journey as lay members of the Dominican Family is to search out the ways in which the Lord calls us to preach. Jenny N., one of our perpetually profe…
Anyone taking a look at the Dominican Order will eventually come across the fact that St. Dominic adopted as his first Rule the Rule of St. Augustine.
The Rule of St. Augustine It was one of the oldest and most venerable rules in existence even at that time. It is short and adaptable. Dominic had been living under this rule as a Canon Regular, so it was familiar.
Do we need another article on Dominican Spirituality? A series? Aren't there several books and resources out there already? Is it that hard to define Dominican Spirituality? I think the answer to all these questions is "Yes."
Dominican Life is the Image of St. Dominic We realized that while there are a lot of resources covering this topic, they are almost exclusively written by and for Dominicans living in community, i.e., not necessarily aimed at the Lay Domini…
BY: Debra Weldon, OP, MTS Mark, one of my Dominican brothers, and I have found ourselves discussing what it means to be a Lay Dominican these last few months.
What Does It Mean To Say, “I am a Lay Dominican?” I was sitting in mass not too long ago, and someone offered up a prayer for the religious. It hit me for the first time – I am a religious, and that prayer was for me.
"How many ways to preach?""How many people on Earth?"
Homily of Life How do lay Dominicans preach? One way could be through the homily of our lives.

Covid has certainly made life and fellowship “different” but even outside and wearing masks, our Rites are something to CELEBRATE! Congratulations to Pete Coriddi and Renee Jones on their Temporary Professions, and to Mark Connolly on making his Perpetual Profession! May God bless you as you continue this beautiful Dominican journey!

This year, on Thursday, September 17, 2020, my community, The Dominican Friars of St. Albert the Great Priory, is participating in Communities Foundation of Texas’ North Texas Giving Day, a one-day online giving extravaganza for our whole region.
Since its founding in 2009, North Texas Giving Day has inspired people to give, resulting in increased donations and services provided in North Texas. We invite you to join the movement and help us reach our goal of $10,000 on September 17. Here’s how you can help:
1. Give on September 17!
Your gift matters! On September 17, donate to the Dominican Friars on NorthTexasGivingDay.org between 6 a.m. And midnight.
Not available on September 17? No worries! Make your gift early between September 1 and September 16 at https://www.northtexasgivingday.org/dominicans
2. Spread the word!
Spread the word to your friends and loved ones about us and North Texas Giving Day! Don’t forget to tag #OPdallas and #NTxGivingDay if you’re posting online! Encourage your friends and family to give as well! Communities Foundation of Texas is even offering a prize for the social media post that’s shared the most!

March 2020 Meeting Update - https://mailchi.mp/d11b2bb547ae/august-chapter-meeting-525067
After consulting with a variety of people, and taking into consideration both the efforts being taken by so many, and the demographic most adversely affected by the Corona virus, we have made the decision to cancel this Saturday’s meeting. This decision is not made lightly, but with an abundance of caution and care for our most vulnerable members.
Since we will not be together in person, I’d like to suggest that we come together in prayer (from wherever we each are) at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday to pray a rosary and the divine mercy chaplet... for a quick resolution to this virus, for the souls of those lost, and for all suffering with illness.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.
Additionally, if you are willing to write a letter to a prisoner, as we had intended to do this month, please email Roy at [email protected].
Thank you all for your understanding. I pray you remain healthy and blessed.
