[09/03/21]   Covid Update-Positive Case in P3 and Potential Children's Ministry Exposure

Hello Plymouth Park UMC church family and friends,

We were made aware of a positive case of Covid-19 from our P3 service last Sunday, August 29 at 9:15am. We will still have in-person services this weekend, but encourage everyone to wear masks, and to follow CDC guidelines if you believe you might have been exposed to someone who has tested positive for Covid-19.

The CDC guidelines state that individuals should,

“Quarantine if you have been in close contact (within 6 feet of someone for a cumulative total of 15 minutes or more over a 24-hour period) with someone who has COVID-19, unless you have been fully vaccinated. People who are fully vaccinated do NOT need to quarantine after contact with someone who had COVID-19 unless they have symptoms. However, fully vaccinated people should get tested 3-5 days after their exposure, even if they don’t have symptoms and wear a mask indoors in public for 14 days following exposure or until their test result is negative.”

Also, as we shared in our all church email, we cancelled Kid’s Club on Wednesday out of an abundance of caution. We will have Sunday School and Nursery Care Sunday morning, and will plan for Kid’s Club to resume this coming Wednesday again. However, if you or your child falls under the CDC guidelines listed above we encourage you to follow those instructions.

You can keep up to date on the latest CDC guidelines at https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-nCoV/index.html. If you have questions or concerns about whether or not you need to isolate or seek testing, please reply to me and we can clarify.

As a continued reminder for health and safety, we continue to strongly encourage masks when we gather in person. This helps us do no harm, do good, and love God and one another well. It also helps us continue to have regular in-person services and gatherings without having to go online only again due to Covid exposure. Additionally, while we strongly recommend masks, generally Dallas County is requiring masks in all public gatherings. You can keep track of Covid-19 protocols and updates for Dallas County here:

https://www.dallascounty.org/covid-19/

And you are encouraged to sign up for the vaccination process in Dallas County here:

https://www.dallascounty.org/covid-19/covid-19-vaccination.php

Finally, we know this weekend is Communion Sunday. We will have plenty of prepackaged, individual Communion servings for all who feel safest with that option. We will also have severs at the Sanctuary railings and the front of the Fellowship Hall wearing masks and using hand sanitizer for all who feel safe receiving Communion in that manner.

Thank you for your continued care for one another as a church family throughout this pandemic. Again, if you have questions about whether or not you are advised to quarantine or get tested for Covid-19 due to any potential exposure in our ministries, please reply to this email and we can assist you as best as possible. I hold you in prayer, and am so grateful to serve as your pastor.

Peace,

Rev. Marcus Womack

[07/31/21]   Covid Update-Masks Encouraged for All Indoors

Hello Plymouth Park UMC church family and friends,

As new variants of Covid-19 spread, we are being asked by the Centers for Disease Control and Bishop Mike McKee of the North Texas Annual Conference to wear masks indoors beginning this Sunday. You can read Bishop McKee’s full statement below. This is an encouragement, not mandatory, but it is a critical way of caring for one another.

I am convinced that it is not a step backward to wear masks again indoors. This is a call to care and help each other to not get sick, suffer, or die if we can prevent it. We belong to each other. Wearing masks, getting vaccinated, and taking precautions like distancing and sanitation are acts of loving our neighbors.

In seeking to do no harm, do good, and share God’s love I will be wearing a mask indoors unless I am leading liturgy or preaching. I encourage you to wear a mask for the care of anyone in our congregation, especially for our children who cannot receive vaccines yet. For me, this is personal given the 2 young children in my household who I strive to care for as their father. All of the children in our church (and truly any person in a vulnerable health condition) are God’s beloved children and they are our faith family charged to all of our care, so we are encouraged to take these precautions once again.

Thank you for receiving this invitation to offer support to our healthcare professionals, hospitals, and any vulnerable or unvaccinated people for whom the risks of Covid-19 are the greatest. I look forward to worshiping with you this weekend as we share Holy Communion and explore Psalm 121, remembering our help and hope always come from God’s great love!

Peace,

Rev. Marcus Womack

You can read Bishop Mike McKee’s full message here:

Greetings in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ,

Recent news regarding the spread of COVID-19 and the Delta variant requires us to once again evaluate safety protocols for worship and other ministries. The virus has mutated, spreads faster, and is more dangerous than before. As the body of Christ, let us commit to doing no harm (putting children and health-compromised adults at risk) and doing good (wearing masks, encouraging vaccination, and practicing social distancing).

For the foreseeable future, all are encouraged while worshipping or gathering in our churches to wear masks. If one has not been vaccinated, wearing a mask is essential. The most vulnerable among us are our children, who are unable to get vaccinated. Many thought our communities were moving in a very good direction, but the Delta variant changed that, and once again, we must change how we protect others. Otherwise, too many of our friends and family members will be at even greater risk.

Getting the COVID vaccine is the best way to protect ourselves from the severity of this dangerous virus. Each year, I get the flu vaccine. On one or two occasions, I still got the flu, because the strain of flu that year was different than the vaccine. Yet, my flu symptoms were not as strong, and I suffered very little. Similarly, those who are vaccinated against COVID may experience much milder, or even asymptomatic, cases of COVID.

As a member of the body of Christ, I have thought of what is best for our communities and those with whom we have relationships. I have not thought about what is most comfortable for me.
Please join me in wearing masks, encouraging vaccination, and practicing social distancing in our churches so that our witness is a symbol of Christ’s and our compassion for all persons and their health.

Thank you for your leadership and ensuring that our churches are safe places for all God’s children.

Peace,

Bishop Mike McKee
North Texas Annual Conference

Hello Plymouth Park UMC church family and friends,

As I hope you've seen in our all-church emails, social media posts, and in worship announcements that we are taking our next steps in our church's re-opening process. See the video below from me on these next steps.

Again, the following things will happen starting this Sunday:

-The 8:30 a.m. sanctuary worship service with communion will be offered weekly.

-Small groups/Sunday school classes/other weekly meetings will start in-person meetings in their rooms. Clorox wipes will be available.

(Namaste adult Sunday School class will meet at 10:00 a.m. in room 108. Other adult classes may be meeting. Check with your individual leaders. Youth will meet in the Activity Room. Children will meet in rooms 101 and 103. Nursery will be available for all services.)

-Physical distance markers will be provided in the 2 middle sections at the back of the sanctuary. Ropes have been removed from the rest of the sanctuary.

-Offering plates will be passed by ushers.

-Hymnals, Bibles, and envelopes will be in the backs of pews.

-Food and beverages will be allowed for groups. We ask that drinks and food be pre-portioned for individuals, or have servers be on hand to serve for receptions/large church gatherings. Hand sanitizer and gloves will be readily available.

-For communion, you will have the choice to have individually packaged elements in your seat or come forward and receive communion at the railing or front of the room, based on your comfort level. All servers will use hand sanitizer before serving.

Our re-opening team will be revisiting these processes again in another 6 weeks. Please let us know if you have questions, concerns, or special needs as we take these next steps forward together.

Thank you for your patience, felxibility, and caring for one another through these next steps. In all things we strive to live out our Wesleyan and Christian values of doing no harm, doing good, and staying in love with God. As always, I am so grateful to serve alongside such a passionate, generous, and welcoming church family!

Peace,

Rev. Marcus Womack
Pastor-Plymouth Park United Methodist Church
