We are: "A church that's large enough to serve you, but small enough to need you!" In 1879, when Third Ward was out in the then wooded suburbs of the City of Houston, a subdivision, boundered by Drew Avenue, Hutchins Street, Dowling Street and Tuam Avenue (J.
Holman Outlet 15) was divided into lots and sold to families for homes. Rev. James Harvey Makey (1849-1915), a member of the Antioch Baptist Church [the first black Baptist Church in Houston], saw a need for a church in this section of the city and in turn, called together a group of neighbors in his home and organized the Jerusalem Missionary Baptist Church with the assistance of his pastor, the
Operating as usual
The loving fellowship of Families and Friends known as Jerusalem Missionary Baptist Church deeply and sadly mourns the heavenly transition of one of the "Youngest" Super Saints in its 140 year history. Our hearts will collectively cherish the fond memories we hold dear of Sister Millie J. Washington our resident Jack Yates historian. There will never be a more empassioned soldier for Christ embodied in the Proverbs 31 Woman which is her legacy which she leaves her loving Family. Weather in service to humanity community academia church or family she was always a willing worker. God is not creating any more Ruby Spillers, Loretta Routtes, Verna Youngs, Barbara Bowies or Millie J. Washingtons today but we certainly have been all the more Blessed for the time we had to Tabernacle with these Super Saints on this side. As we mourn the loss, we celebrate the life! To God be the glory for the things that He has done!
Good evening Jerusalem,
Praise report and update for our beloved, Pastor Castro Walker Sr.
No more feeding tubes, he is eating soft foods and gaining strength daily. 🙏🏽👏🏽 Today he walked with the assistance of a walker and his therapist. He also sat up in a chair and watched television. He is making unbelievable progress and it is all thanks to the prayers of everyone who’s daily, calling the name Castro Walker, Sr. ♥️🙏🏽 We, his family, cannot thank you enough for your continued prayers and support. The love is overflowing from our hearts to yours. ❤️ Please continue to lift him and our family in prayer. In his words “thank you until you’re better paid”. 🥰
For the next 3 days, I am going to start a fast, where I will be fasting and praying from 8pm to 12 noon. I'll pray specifically for Castro's mind, body, and soul at 8 when I start and will pray for total restoration at noon when I end. I welcome you all to partner with me during those times. 🙏🏽 I'm going to add it to Jerusalem's page and ask others to partner with me, as well.
COVENANT OF FAITH UMC
Good morning Jerusalem,
While it has taken me a while to be able to post about this, I am now ready to share. As most of you all know by now, on Thursday, August 27, 2020 at 9:15pm, your Pastor, Dad of Castro Jr., AnaMischa, and Blake, brother of Luthur (Rudyne), and my husband, Castro Walker Sr., suffered a massive heart attack while sitting in his recliner at home. Not only did he suffer a heart attack, but he had a sudden death and was brought back by the paramedics. His major heart artery, known as “the widow maker” was 100% blocked. For days he has been in critical condition (non responsive) fighting for his life. While we will all await HIS testimony, I have to let you know, that by the Grace of Almighty God and the POWER of the prayers of his family, church family, fellow pastors, friends, and others, on last evening he was taken off the ventilator and has been and is breathing on his own!! 🙏🏽❤️ As of this morning, the following is the update from his nurse:
He is answering simple commands with the nodding and shaking of his head, he has said yes and no, as well as giving a thumbs up and squeezing his hand. His left side is extremely weaker than his right side and they will further evaluate that. While he still has a long road ahead of him, considering what he went through and experienced, they (doctors and nurses) are calling him a MIRACLE. 🙏🏽💪🏽❤️
On behalf of the Walker family, from the depths of our hearts, we extend our heartfelt gratitude to you all for your prayers, calls, texts, and generosity shown to us thus far, during this life changing experience. While we continue to pray for God’s continued blessings on Castro, we are believing Him for complete healing and restoration and that he comes out of this stronger and better than he went in. If you’ve ever doubted whether or not God is still performing miracles, stop doubting and KNOW that He is!! 🙏🏽❤️ Please continue to cover our Pastor with believing prayer.
1In those days Hezekiah became ill and was at the point of death. The prophet Isaiah son of Amoz went to him and said, “This is what the Lord says: Put your house in order, because you are going to die; you will not recover.”
2Hezekiah turned his face to the wall and prayed to the Lord,
3“Remember, Lord, how I have walked before you faithfully and with wholehearted devotion and have done what is good in your eyes.” And Hezekiah wept bitterly.
4Then the word of the Lord came to Isaiah: 5“Go and tell Hezekiah, ‘This is what the Lord, the God of your father David, says: I have heard your prayer and seen your tears; I will add fifteen years to your life.
6And I will deliver you and this city from the hand of the king of Assyria. I will defend this city.
To God be the glory!! #Walkerstrong💪🏽🙏🏽❤️
The Jerusalem Missionary Baptist Church Family has once more lost one of its Super Saints now called from labor to reward. We have the Blessed assurance that our very own Sister Loretta Routte is undoubtedly absent from the body and present with The Lord of Lords. R.I.H. Sister Routte. The prayers of all the believers are being extended to this beloved Family.
HAPPY JUNETEENTH FAMILY!!!
Thank you from our hearts Rev. John Henry "Jack" Yates, Mr. Richard Brock, Mr. Richard Allen and Mr. Elias Dibble... the Four Cornerstone Founding Fathers of Emancipation Park. WE will always remember, honor and respect YOU for thinking of US! YOU thought of US then... WE remember YOU now.
Jerusalem, let us please be in prayer for our Grant family, as they mourn the passing of their beautiful, daughter, sister, niece, granddaughter, etc. Aerial Grant would have celebrated her 21st earthly birthday today, but God had better plans, so today she celebrates her 1st heavenly birthday. ❤️🙏🏽 Rest in Heavenly Peace, sweet angel 😇 Harry, Nessa, Liberti, Jay’la, Jay’Lynn, Eric, and Corey (as well as other family and friends) we love you and are standing in the gaps praying that God will provide you with a peace that surpasses all understanding.
Pastor Castro Walker Sr. and your Jerusalem Family🙏🏽❤️
Thjs photo of Ms. Deborah Wrigley was actually supposed to capture a historic moment in time with the entire news brigade outside of Jerusalem in June of 2020 but we unfortunately did not capture that image because the church member that was asked to take the picture (for history) was too busy to be bothered with it at the time. I'm just grateful that that wasn't Jesus's attitude about it!
Wednesday morning, Jerusalem took a giant leap forward in the pursuit of returning to corporate worship by professionally decontaminating the entire church campus of Covid 19 virus. We can now return to praise our God in service without the element of fear. Thanks to Decam, DeLoyd Parker, Mayor Sandra Massie Hines, Dorris Ellis Robinson, Jim McIngvale, "The Classic Man" Rickey Davis, KCOH 1230 AM, KTRK Channel 13, KHOU Channel 11, KPRC Channel 2, Telemundo Channel 45, Fox 26 and Mr. Instrumentalist Nick Jones and Ms. Regina Hearne (Strictly "G" Entertainment) for bringing it all together. Thanks to Pastor Castro L. Walker, Sr. and the Deacons of JMBC for being the first to lead the way for all others.
