The Chapel Hinsdale

MEETING SUNDAYS at 10:00 a.m.

As a community, we begin with the simple and yet profound belief that rediscovering God can literally change everything in your life. Our hope is that we would be a family that loves each other and loves our neighbors with a love that we receive, experience, and learn from God. The Hinsdale campus has a deep sense of community and purpose. These qualities have been on display throughout Oak Community Church's 100 years of faithful service and, beginning in 2012, they took on a new texture as Oak became The Chapel’s eighth campus.

Scott Chapman

This morning, I have been reflecting on the protests and violence across our nation. I am saddened by everything that has brought us to this point. The events in Georgia, NYC and Minneapolis this spring have been horrifying to watch and grieving to reflect upon. They show us what our black brothers and sisters have told us for a long time. Racism, even in its most violent forms, is real. It is not just an issue from a bygone era or only in the deep south. I too am saddened by the violence and damage of current events unfolding around our country. The outrage is understandable, but the violence is misplaced and will only cause further sadness.

I pray this morning for our nation. I pray for peace – not just for tranquility, but for true peace that comes from the presence of justice. I pray for the families of those who have been hurt and killed. I pray for my brothers and sisters of color. I pray for our leaders and our cities. Mostly I pray that Jesus’ kingdom, its way of life, its justice, and its equality would come in increasing measure until the fullness of our Lord’s appearing.

Lord, comfort us, inspire us, and galvanize us, that we may be one as you are one and that the world may know that we are yours because we stand together, a united people, filled with love for each other and the world around us. Amen.

Hope to see you in a bit! Happy Birthday Church!!! It’s Pentecost Sunday 😎

Join us this Sunday for Drive-Thru Communion and Prayer at our campus! 10:30-11:30 am. We would love to see you!

Some of our students volunteer at the People Resource Center in Westmont. We would love to help out and donate some items for their food pantry! Their greatest need right now is peanut butter and canned vegetables. Comment below if you would like us to pick up your donations, or you can drop them off at church (tomorrow would be a great time during our drive-thru communion from 10:30-11;30!).

BibleProject

It’s Pentecost Sunday! The Spirit has come... let God animate you with His presence, power and love!

For this week’s Church at Home Bible study, we’re going to invite you to reflect on three moments in Scripture that show the Spirit of God at work in the world — it’s timely. As our world continues to weather the COVID-19 pandemic, we’re entering a new season of difficulty, as leaders debate and divide over how to move forward. And as followers of Jesus find themselves drawn into this complex set of issues, there’s no better time to remind ourselves of the work of God’s Spirit in the world.

In the storyline of the Bible, God’s Spirit is in the business of generating life and order out of dismal and lifeless situations. This usually takes place through Spirit-empowered people who live by God’s wisdom and pay attention to the needs of others. And there is no one who more perfectly displayed God’s life-giving wisdom than Jesus, who gave his life in a Spirit-led act of love. This is the same Spirit who is leading Jesus’ followers to imitate his pattern of servant-love in our world today.

What words are fitting when we know we're in the wrong and now we feel alienated from God & those made in God's image? Here's the 8th Mixtape Meditation, based on Psalm 51, to help us confess our regrets, repent of our sins & receive God's faithful fathering.

We're right to grieve what this difficult season has taken from us— I miss people and I'm SO ready for this to be over! But it's also vital to remember all the good we've received from our Father. Here's the 7th Mixtape Meditation, based on Psalm 103 to help us do that.

Kids around the world walk an average of six kilometers for water every day. When you 6K, we take those steps away. 🚰

BibleProject

In the beginning of the Bible, God transforms a desolate wilderness into a garden through a stream that waters the ground and brings life wherever it goes. This image gets developed throughout the biblical story as wells, cisterns, rain, and rivers all become images of God’s creative power. In this video, we’ll explore the “water of life” theme through the biblical story and see how it leads to Jesus, who presents himself as the one bringing living water to a world that is desperately thirsty.

This video concludes Luke's epic portrait of Jesus of Nazareth. The disciples discover the empty tomb and eventually have their entire view of the world turned upside-down as they meet the risen Jesus. Luke shows how Jesus' kingdom of God mission to its climactic moment, and he sets the stage for its continuation in Luke's second volume, Acts.

Harmony LaBeff

Hey Chapel family, here's the week 4 "Mixtape Meditation" from our Worship Pastor, Harmony LaBeff. Jesus has risen!

"After He has suffered, He will see the light of life and be satisfied; by knowledge of Him my righteous servant will justify many, and He will bear their iniquities." (Isaiah 53:11) He has done it! 🙌

CHRIST IS RISEN!

Worship through Isaiah 53 in this 4th "Mixtape Meditation." The Suffering Servant offered Himself as a sacrifice for those who made Him their enemy. See how He has been vindicated—evil, sin & death are defeated! Light has come after darkness, life after death, & we who were enemies with God have now become His children! He has done it!
