Follow up to today's sermon:
1) Eric Smith says he will do a follow up about wills via zoom.
2) Eva Green's son is a heart-transplant recipient and runs a foundation that helps families who would like to donate organs. (That needs planning but certainly give meaning to our death!)
Ready to worship here on our page at 11:00 (or on
YouTube:
How do I find the worship time?
FUMC Youth trip, August 1978. We saw Royal Gorge, Colorado Railroad Museum, Garden of the Gods, Pike's Peak, US Airforce Academy Chapel, Cave of the Winds, Denver Mint, rode horses and a dude ranch, and saw the show at Palo Duro Canyon, staying at churches in Colorado Springs, Denver, and Amarillo. Maurice and Margaret Edwards were the sponsors. Robbie Jo Calhoun was one of our sweet chaperones. Rev. Bob Young rode the bus up with us and spent a few days, then flew home. Margaret, trying to get the most experience/value for our money, packed way too much tuna helper. I believe that we rebelled and got to have one meal at McDonald's somewhere along the way. Fun times and terrific worship opportunities.
Good Morning!
What happened to the community garden by the church?

The Lord our God is great.
The Lord is worthy of our praise.
Come; let us remember the great things God has done for us.
Let us not neglect to teach our children the greatness of God.
Let us not forget our past and those who have gone before us.
We remember our ancestors, our history, our Africa; and we name our future.
Let us lift up our voices in song, lift our arms in praise,
and open our hearts in gratitude.
Let us greet God with our hymn of praise.

Hmmm, first was a request for 800 pencils to build catapults.

At staff meeting, the report was "our snow order was cancelled, but we think we have enough." (In June. In Texas. When it's going to be 90 degrees this afternoon.)

Is it just me, or is Vacation Bible School sounding interesting this year . . . .?

There has been a huge increase in the cost of lumber, and a lot of lumber is needed. UM Army is looking to cut money where it can compensate in the form of donations. We are in need of donations of plates, napkins, forks, spoons, and cups. #umarmy2021

May be a little dark, but here's what the V-for-Victory pin looks like. (There may have once been a little red stone in that first "dot," thereby making it red, white, and blue.) D-Day!

That's the blue tape that's been blocking pews in the sanctuary and chapel. The Church Council lifted COVID-19 protocols, so now you may sit where you wish.

Early birds to worship - be prepared to help put bibles and hymnals back in the pew racks!

Our communion steward has moved too far away to keep doing communion preparation. Many thanks to Vera McKinnon for her years of service!

Would you be willing to help with communion? It would mean prepping the bread and juice 14 times a year - on first Sundays, Sunday before Thanksgiving, and Christmas Eve. Call 972-264-6148 or email [email protected] for more information.

CHURCH COUNCIL LIFTS PROTOCOLS

The Church Council has lifted the COVID-19 protocols that were in place at First United Methodist Church, Grand Prairie.
• Reservations for Sunday mornings are no longer required.
• Blue tape will be removed, and worshipers may sit where they desire.
• Masks are optional.
• Communion will be served at the communion rail.
• Groups may meet in the buildings (keep in mind Wesley Hall is not available), and persons may eat at meetings.

Bishop Michael McKee of the North Texas Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church has sent the following to the local churches:
“- Congregational singing is a vital part of worship in The United Methodist Church. To that end, fully vaccinated individuals are now allowed to sing during a service (mask wearing optional). Of course, some fully vaccinated people will continue to be more comfortable wearing masks, and those wishes should be respected.
- Recommendations for safe activities bring with them the caveat that individuals must be fully vaccinated. Children and youth who do not meet the current age requirements for receiving a vaccine do not fall into that category. Therefore, I ask that unvaccinated children and youth remain masked for the near future. We will continue to monitor the situation closely and provide further information on this as conditions dictate.”

283 years ago, the Methodist founder, John Wesley, reluctantly went to a bible study about the book of Romans in a place called Aldersgate. He had an experience of God's Holy Spirit that he wrote about in his journal. May 24 is remembered among Methodists as "Aldersgate Day." It's a happy irony that this year it comes the day after Pentecost, when the Holy Spirit was poured upon the Jesus's disciples.

This is "Tiny" and W.D. Baker. They live in God's arms now, but they influence your worship in both traditional services. These are the Bakers of Baker Chapel (8:30 service), and they are the ones named on the plaque of the grand piano in the sanctuary. We will celebrate that gift of the piano this week with BOTH services - 8:30 and 11:00 - in the sanctuary Sunday!
